Beautiful food Great menu fantastic dining experience We will definately be back and would highly recommend
The lamb was spectacular - best ever - and all our other food was delicious too. Everything was perfectly cooked, flvoursome and interesting combinations. There was quite a long wait for the main courses (50 minutes after we arrived) but otherwise the service was excellent and we were very happy sitting by the fire. Not sure about the raw pear slices with the pear dessert, but the rest of the dish more than made up for it.
The view and service were both wonderful.
The food was absolutely amazing. I chose the beef cheek for entree and the steak for mains. The beef cheek was the best I’ve ever eaten. I would have liked that to come in a main size as I would have been so happy with that. The steak was cooked perfectly! Would definitely recommend Bistro Lago to anyone visiting Taupo. Was made even sweeter with th me half price bill!!
Fantastic food, good service :-)
Even though the Bistro was closed for renovations, we had a wonderful meal in the cellar bar, staff were wonderful whilst remaining professional. Overall we had a wonderful weekend and a great stay.
Little expensive for what it was. Fish was over cooked but rest of the meals were great. Great staff
Despite the main restaurant being closed for renovations, this meal was perfect. A warm fire and very attentive staff made for a most pleasant meal. The steak was perfectly cooked
We really enjoyed our dining experience at Bistro Lago. Great food.
Some years ago my husband took me to Bistro Lago for one of those 'significant birthdays'....and even though I have officiated at many many weddings at the Hilton - we had never managed to get back for a repeat performance in the restaurant. We had a guest from down on the Mainland and I scored us a seating with Table First. We had some fun & games finding 'how' to get into the Bistro [along may I add, with a number of other would-be diners]....maybe some signage is needed giving directions until the work is finished? IF there was any - none of us saw it. I sat in a draft during our 2 hours...very chilly. We waited some 45 minutes for our bread platter to arrive. My dessert - a brulee, was sooo dense I couldn't get my spoon in initially and the toffee crusting was both thick, and hard! Needed to really 'bash' it to break it....sigh. So dessert went back! Having said that the experience, from when we finally managed to get indoors, and our greeting from your delightful Restaurant Manager, and the honey of a waitress, and the meals - was superb! Will we recommend let alone return? Oh YES! Thank you for a lovely evening.....
Sorbet was incredible!! Great spot 😊
We visited for a tasting of our wedding menu. Therefore, we were served 4 x canapés; 2 x entrees, 2 x Mains, 2 x sides and 2 x Desserts. The decision making was quite difficult because the flavours of each individual plate and the presentation was amazing. Our wedding guests are going to be very happy with the menu on our day. We are looking forward to it.
We had a great family 50th birthday and were well looked after
My proper birthday meal the night before at another recommended taupo restaurant was mediocre so i had no expectations when i booked Bistro Lago. I was surprised to get a carpark right there(try doing this in Auckl). Pausing to enjoy the warmth of the fire I surveyed the very best table choice to enjoy the ethereal view as the light changed over the lake. The food was ABSOLUTELY DIVINE (ooh the gnocchi beef cheeks) & how does the fish batter stay so crispy crunchy from first bite till the last almost 30min later? From the mocktail and wine to the special birthday surprise from the kitchen(thankyou) and slight detour from the dessert menu we ordered, everything was great. Being in customer services myself(tour guide) i know how important good service is and I have to say our waitress was great in her professionalism, her friendly manner, her knowledge of the menu and wines as well as attention to our tree nut allergy). Thanks Bistro Lago. I highly recommend this place.
Lovely atmosphere. Beautiful food.
beautiful service from the time we walked in to the time we walked out the food was exceptional which really made our night even more enjoyable am definitely coming back again and would recommend this restaurant to anyone
very pleased with our meal and level of service; certainly a step up on overall food quality since our last visit which was approx 2 years ago - thank you for a great evening
Delicious and worth our money!! Warm and inviting atmosphere..
Friendly service. Happy to cater for special dietary requirements. Would definitely dine here again.
Luxurious atmosphere, top service, quality food - what else do you want?
The meal was fantastic - service great we couldn't find a fault.
Steak meal was a shocker. Undercooked. Salad was bland and boring. Gareth Stewart would be ashamed if he saw my meal.
We made a group booking for my 40th birthday on saturday 2nd June. Overall we were really disappointed especially with the service. Our waiter was obviously quite inexperienced. Following are a few issues: - he forgot one of our meals - i had to ask twice for the soup of the day, he didn't even know he had to check with the kitchen. - We asked twice for some kids activities e.g., colouring in sheets, he said they had some but he never bough tthem over. - We were never checked on, asked how our meals were or even asked for second drink orders. - There was no music or it was so quiet, we asked for it to be turned up a little but this was never done. - We asked two members of staff what the soup was made of and no one could tell us. - When the soup was served it was cool, had one piece of bread on the side of the soup bowl - no bread knife, plate or butter. - We had to ask for the dessert menus, then the kids dessert menus, and waiter didn't know the ice cream flavours. We then had to ask for spoons to eat it with. Not at all what we expected up at the Hilton. Even when I placed my online booking I asked a couple of questions and no one got back to me until a week later - the day before we were due to come. A real pitty as we live in Taupo.
Beautiful evening. Great Service and very welcoming atmosphere. Fish of the day was a bit odd . Spicy sausage chorizo was put together with such a delicate fish. It’s flavor overpowered everything else on the plate. A part from that all was just perfect.
