About Big Easy Durban by Ernie Els
Earning his nickname ‘Big Easy’ as much for his effortless golf swing as for his big heart and philanthropic efforts, Ernie Els is synonymous with all-round excellence; pursuing the best in sports and leisure, while always staying true to his love of family and country.
“Having travelled the world, I have developed a good feeling for what I look for in a restaurant – great hospitality in a fun, relaxed environment in which to enjoy the end of a long day – spending time with friends over a great bottle of wine and a meal,” says Els. “The ethos behind Big Easy Durban Restaurant is to achieve that.”
“We are excited to be part of one of the world’s iconic hotel brands through this partnership with Hilton and Durban offers the perfect launching-pad, with its laid-back vibe and idyllic weather. It’s a great fit.”
The atmosphere was perfect, the service was perfect, and the food was awesome! Definitely recommend the Braai platter for two and the lamb shank bunny!
I must admit the prices were not on par with the food. The sauce we ordered came after our meal was almost finished...the steak was so dry and overcooked. I definitely wont be coming back or recommending anyone else. I was very disappointed as it was my 22nd wedding anniversary and we did not enjoy our meal which I thought would be spectacular seeing that it was in the Hilton.
Terribly overpriced wine and the food is not good at all.
Fine Dining at it's best!
We were served by the wonderful Simon, who treated us like royalty. From start to finish, our wine pairing lunch was a simply delightful experience. I highly recommend Big Easy Durban for a taste of elegant indulgence.
The dishes were excellent except for the venison. It had been a bit on the blue side so to speak and lacked dimension. I would have maybe seared it a bit longer and possibly pepper crusted it which would have added the required dimension and complemented the champagne perfectly. The trout was a clear cut winner with a decent portion size and should have been the main I would say. Hats off to the chef with the unique dishes overall. Events like these are welcomed as it allows one to depict their talents and the spirit of Africa.
The booking process was not easy at all, responses took long and I often needed to follow up for feedback. It’s actually the worst booking service I’ve come across. Nonetheless, I decided to go ahead with the booking even with that bad service. On the day the table wasn’t ready and of course I was not surprised given my booking experience. The food was lovely, thumps up for that. A major change is required on speedy responses when booking, after all it sets the tone of how the service will be on the day of the booking.
Thank you to the Big Easy Staff and Management. You made my brothers graduation lunch feel intimate and elegant. Great service and food. The vibe was elegant and sophisticated.
What a gem. Great staff and fantastic beautiful restaurant. We had amazing culinary experience and services was heartfelt. The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation.
Great food and excellent service by Nkosenye and the entire team.
Excellent service waiter was spot on food was delicious
Some stuff on the menu was sold. There was no chicken meals available as it was sold out , some drinks was also not available.
It was our anniversary, had cocktails at the bar, it was terrible, my wife didn't even drink half of it! She had a sparkling mojito, it was sooooo sweet. Disgusting. I had the pork ribs for mains, they were terrible. The steak knife struggled to cut through the meat! Ribs are supposed to be slow cooked, they weren't! I have eaten at many restaurants all over the world. The BIG EASY, Is a NO NO! I have friends coming out from the UK, they wanted to try. Trust us, we will stay away! Extremely disappointing.
The Big Easy delivers on outstanding service and mouthwatering menu. We visited the Big Easy as part of Restaurant week and was not disappointed - we had a three course set menu at R300pp which was out of this world, and not breaking the bank.
Great atmosphers and ambience. Service a bit slow though. This was a pre-booked lunch, so surely they could have allocated at least 2 waiters seeing that there were 16 guests. I ordered pork ribs - very dry, unlike anything that I am used to. The hicken wings in the starter platter were horrible, just plain hirrible! I loved the cornbread though. Drinks slightly overpriced - R37 for a 300ml can of Coke???
Thank you to the staff for making my birthday the most memorable. The food was amazing.
The experience was amazing and very professional, from enquiries, to bookings & to the actual day. The venue was very clean and inviting. The communication was always flowing, the staff very friendly and the food was to die for.
It was a birthday celebration dinner and everything from the service to the food and drinks was perfection. Very impressive. Our waitress was outstanding.Thank you.
We went to the johnnie walker evening, and wow we are so impressed! Will definitely be back
So disappointed . Our fist visit was really good. This time both Salmon dishes ordered medium were so over cooked & the prawn curries ordered were very bland
We went here on the strength of the positive reviews; however, we soon regretted our decision. From the poor service to the substandard meat and over priced wine, there is no reason to return. Ernie Els should be embarrassed to have his name associated with this establishment.
Service needs to improve, doesn't match the food price
Such flavoursome food, every dish was scrumptious and the flavors blended beautifully
Was very disappointed that you did not have non dairy milk for coffee. Also you are using plastic straws - please move to paper ones.
