About Biddy's Tea Room Norwich
Biddy's is a traditional Tea Room in the heart of Norwich's bustling Lanes serving traditional cakes and loose leaf tea in a eclectic Victorian setting. We specialise in a 'create your own' afternoon tea made using the days freshly baked scones and homemade cakes from our Aylsham bakery.
We pride ourselves for our large selection of loose leaf tea, offering over 50 possible blends and even an option to mix your own!
Our Tearoom is split into a cakery and lounge downstairs for more relaxed seating to enjoy lighter options, served at the counter to either eat in or takeaway. Our upstairs floor is dedicated to our Tea Room, opened in 2011 serving our hearty lunches and speciality afternoon teas, served by a waitress.
We aren't the world's largest space, and as such cannot offer a grand afternoon affair. However if good service, homemade food, proper tea in a cozy and quirky setting are what you are after, then you have come to the right place. Welcome to Biddy's
I have visited Old Biddys Tearoom on a few occasions and very much like the atmosphere and the home cooked food. I did found on this occasion the service to be slow. Having arrived just before my booking in time of 12 noon it took 25 mins for us to get our drinks and 45 mins to actually get our food. Now bearing in mind the table was booked out again at 1:30, it left us only 45 mins to eat our food which made us both feel rushed as there was a timescale we had to stick to. I have since had a couple of other places recommended to us for afternoon tea and will probably give them a try next time. Nevertheless I would still recommend Old Biddys and have bought many vouchers to give as presents to friends and I guess you have to accept that is what it is at times.
The service was very slow and disorganised.food was taken to the wrong table on 2 occasions, people were waiting a long time for drinks. A Saturday person is needed to help clear tables. I won’t be returning again
waited over 40 mins for drinks and over 1 hour for our afternoon teas.
Biddy's Tea Room is simply amazing. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. The food is homemade and tasty, and you get big portions. But if like us, you're unable to eat it all, don't worry, they will provide you with boxes to take the left overs home. I would recommend you avail yourself of this service because you can not miss out on any morsel from this fabulous place. I went with my parents to celebrate my birthday - the waitress must have heard my parents commenting on the occasion, so when my afternoon tea arrived there was a candle in my cake. It's gestures like this which makes it extra special. As you may guess I would highly recommend you go to Biddy's Tea Room, I urge you, implore you to go. This is an experience one should have at least once in your life because it's just soooooooo good.
Such fun upstairs in Biddy’s. Vintage Afternoon Tea!
Had a lovely afternoon tea, great food and massive portions. The customer service was also great and the decor of the place was amazing!!
Excellent afternoon and even though we were still sitting at 5 pm they didn’t hurry us
Their selection of food is great! I was especially surprised at their range of teas: the tea menu explained what each tea tasted like and what kind it was (green, white, black etc.). My friend and I had a full afternoon tea and it was well worth the value for money. It included finger sandwiches, a scone of our choice, and a cake of our choice, along with a pot of tea or coffee. The scones were warm which was a lovely surprise. I couldn't finish my cake because I was full but they kindly packaged it up for me to takeaway. The decor is absolutely lovely. It feels like you've stepped into a quaint little village café, which is impressive when it's in the city. We were seated upstairs for our afternoon tea and there was a beautiful penny farthing perched on the wall, which I really liked. Definitely a place that a person of any age can enjoy (my friend and I are in our early twenties, but there were mothers and daughters, families, and elderly couples when we were in there).
Had the best afternoon tea! :)
Staff were unorganised, pre booked sandwiches took 35 mins to be served, egg mayo had so much English mustard in, it oozed from the sides to which I had to wipe on the plate, sandwich serving is meagre, fruit scones lacked the fruit and contained cinnamon? Although the cakes looked fabulous, they were incredibly dry and required more tea just to swallow them, had to ask for more tea as the staff were disinterested, so so disappointed as we have wanted to visit for ages
This is one of my favourite places to visit in Norwich! The service is always really friendly, the atmosphere welcoming and it's a lovely place to sit and chat. The menu is very extensive - particularly the tea menu - and the food is absolutely delicious. What makes it even better is that the portion sizes are enormous so you definitely get value for money!
Absolutely fantastic evening with Biddy's Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Catered for all our needs, including putting up our Hen party decorations, and allowing us to take away tasty left overs to enjoy the next day. Great food, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, and really good value for money (especially as allowed for BYOB).
Such a lovely place and lovely food
I woudl highly recommend Biddy’s! Such lovely staff, great atmosphere, food was amazing especially, they served vegan and lacto-free scones and cakes! My only feedback was that the scone my friend got was really hard so was a bit of a challenge to cut it up but one of the staff was able to get a fresh new one for her! Will definitely be going back there again!
This was our first visit to Biddys as a gift from our children and we have already decided that we will definitely go back. A lovely treat which everyone should experience.
Lovely attentive staff couldn’t be of more help! The food was incredible could not fault the experience in any way.
The full afternoon tea was lovely. I liked how you got to choose what you wanted and there was lots of choice. The only downside was the waiting time as it took between 30-40 minutes to be given our food. However overall we really enjoyed ourselves and the food was lovely and personal.
Lovely. Good to have a vegan option. Tables rather close together. Second time we have been and both times we have been between other occupied tables. Wondering what we have to do to get a table at the end or overlooking the street?
Service was awful, things missing, staff very flustered. Not very attentive. Also some cleanliness issues with the crockery/cutlery.
Good food and nice staff
Orders completely wrong. Seemed like no one had a clue what they were doing, staff were friendly though. Food was nice but wont be coming back again.
This was a birthday treat for my friend. we had a lovely afternoon but was a little dissapointed with a couple of things. Firstly when we arrived the lady said she would check our table was ready, we then didn't see her as she had gone upstairs..another couple then arrived who had also booked and we're taken straight upstairs to a table despite us still sitting waiting? I was also dissapointed that at our 3pm booking there were no more fruit scones and not much of a selection of cake left either. what we had was lovely but if I go back I would definately book earlier so that get a better selection.
A very enjoyable afternoon spent with friends.
Amazing afternoon tea. Lovely fresh sandwiches with lots to choose from and beautiful homemade cakes.
Brilliant service, friendly staff, and lovely food (as always!).
