About Bertie's restaurant @ Ruthin Castle Hotel & Spa
The AA rosette awarded "Bertie's" restaurant at 4 star Ruthin Castle Hotel & Spa
Some food on menu was unavailable on he evening, Far to long wait between coarse. Breakfast the next morning was cold and we had dirty cups on the table had to ask the waiter for clean ones. Large queue at door whilst empty tables waiting to be cleared. So not at all impressed we did complain at reception and were told she would pass our comments on. On reflection I feel we paid for food which was not to standards we expected.
I and my partner visited Sunday evening and stayed overnight. We reserved a table in the award winning Bertie's restaurant and how disappointed were we? Service was very slow, items were not available and portion sizes very poor for the money charged. Being in the business we know how difficult it is getting staff so I appreciate the effort put in by a limited workforce. I expected so much more food wise, not a measley 3oz piece of inedible meat, a burnt croquette, a carrot and a parsnip on the plate and no sign of additional vegetables ordered. When asked if all ok, I said the beef was inedible and was told sorry but that's what you have (tough!!) Starters and dessert passable offerings. Breakfast the next morning was like fawlty towers. Staff again doing their best, but after 30 minute wait to be seated, we received a coffee pot with no lid which was cold, had to ask for butter, plates, juice and milk as the buffet table was not replenished, the food was Luke warm. Overall a huge disappointment and would not go back.
Our meal in the restaurant on Sunday evening was very nice and the service was good. We felt the sides were overpriced for the amount provided. Unfortunately our experience at breakfast was not as positive when the staff seemed overwhelmed by the number of guests and the quality of the food didn't compare with that we had enjoyed in the evening. The coffee was virtually undrinkable when it finally arrived.
It was to be mine and my cousins birthday weekend 13th, 14th and 15th October. Unfortunately on the 13the our experience of the hotel was poor. Service was poor with our meal being forgotten. And reordered starter came at 9.25 and main meal much later. My steak was lovely.u have to say but my partners pork belly was so poor he couldn’t eat much of it. It was so tough. TENDERSTEM brocolli wasn’t. I spent a lot of money for my 2 day break and my cousin more. We were treated like 2nd class Customers to the wedding party who got full right gets of passage💭no food available until the late afternoon because wedding breakfast took place. I was still disappointed. The lovely guy who worked behind the bar with glasses on and who told us he came originally from Richmond in North Yorkshire was brilliant, such a nice person. P
Our service was poor. We ordered a drink via male waiter, it never arrived, we told a young female waitress, she apologised but it still never arrived. We then told a second waitress and finally received it 1hour after ordering. We was asked if we would like the dessert menu by the same male waiter that took our drink order. We said yes and he replied one minute but it never arrived. We had to ask a waitress again.
We love Ruthin Castle and have stayed on numerous occasions, The atmosphere in the castle is lovely and welcoming, staff are always friendly. However, we had afternoon tea and was a little disappointed only to get 3 very small sandwiches each. The cakes were nice. We've had afternoon tea at Ruthin on previous occasions and this time we just felt there wasn't value for money, it is after all one of the more expensive afternoon teas around. Overall we had a lovely afternoon in the Castle.
Service wasn’t very good , but overall was ok , outside was lovely , but inside needs a bit of work , but good value for money
Hi Unfortunately my feedback is not great !! The restaurant was understaffed, my partners starter was warm not hot, I am surprised that he did not end up with a bad tummy!! Our mashed potatoes arrived before the steak which was almost cold we sent back the mashed potato and steaks when they arrived, the relacements were ok but had to have the mashed potato re heated for a second time,so disappointed for a four start hotel, we did not stay for desert !! we left the hotel and went into Ruthin town. Very disappointing birthday weekend....
Had to ask three times for cream for our coffee and twice for butter for scones, not once asked if everything was ok
The wine is exstortionatly priced. £54 for two cheap bottles of wine is way over the top. The food was a very good standatd.
Staff very welcoming. We stayed the night. Room lovely ,beautiful views from window.we had 3 course meal in Bertie’s , the food was lovely they accommodated my needs of being vegetarian and was happy to offer alternative to the menu, thanks to Debbie and team for a lovely homely evening. Thanks again Debbie for all your fabulous hospitality , we stayed Friday 12th. , will definitely return. Thanks again. Mrs a Ashley
Food tasted like it was old, staff were not polite and the lighting and music was awful
Certainly a high end hotel. The dinning was excellent, as was the wine selection. Staff all very friendly & attentive. Breakfast was less good, however the bacon was thick & tasty. Paint needed on the window frames externally & you'd better do something about the flat roofed function room's fascias & soffits!
We spent two nights at Ruthin Castle and really enjoyed ourselves. Everything was wonderful.
Everything very pleasant but slightly spoilt by the fact we had booked for 3.15pm, checked in on time and cup of tea arrived promptly but did not receive food until 3.50 pm. Other people who had not pre booked were served before us.
Although not actually in Bertie's restaurant, our afternoon tea in the lounge was very relaxed and peaceful. Most enjoyable.
Food could be hotter
We enjoyed our meal at the restaurant but unfortunately we have both been violently vomiting ever since so it wasn't the best stay we've had.
If we could give less than one star we would for the evening meal it was a disaster, it was our golden wedding anniversary and we thought it would be special how wrong we were, if you have any dietary requests forget it, my husband is dairy free which the hotel was informed prior to our visit, A member of staff did go out and purchase some milk substitute for coffee. It took 45 minutes to find out what was dairy free on the menu and the only meal offered was fish , he does not eat fish they did cook a steak but it arrived cold so were the veg then it was warmed up no dessert was available totally disappointing a 50th anniversary I will remember for all the wrong reasons. We must say the breakfast was good a pity we did not have the breakfast menu for the evening meal.
Absolutely delicious. Will definitely be heading back for more!
Afternoon tea is expensive
Wonderful meal, very well presented, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Service from all staff, especially Georgia was first class. Thank you for a memorable meal. A big thank you to the chefs. Well done ALL
Sorry not impressed. Didn't give us the feeling of a 4 star establishment. Had just stayed in another 4 star previous evening. What a difference. Staff in uniform. Look the part. Sorry but disappointed. Food was ok. Beef asked for medium to well, pretty rare! Wine expensive. Same choice night before £7 cheaper. Then £3.30p for diet coke. Won't revist
The reception staff were very good and the room we had was lovely. The castle is really nice. The experience was not so good in the restaurant. The food did not live up to expectations and the staff were not very helpful.
