About Bertie's restaurant @ Ruthin Castle Hotel & Spa
The AA rosette awarded "Bertie's" restaurant at 4 star Ruthin Castle Hotel & Spa
Great service in a beautiful historic 13th century castle with peacocks roaming around the grounds, that include a medieval courtyard and a historic site.
Beautiful setting attentive staff and Ambience.Food wonderful and varied.
A very attentive staff, food was very good ,the coffee not as hot as we would have liked. Other than that no complaints.cleanliness was superb. The grounds were a pleasure to walk around.
have an excellent afternoon tea
Lovely afternoon tea the waitress was very good and pleasant
My husband and I enjoyed a tasty, beautifully presented meal at the restaurant. I had ham tureen and my husband the feast of the ocean starters. Just the right amount of food. I had the beef main and hubby had the belly pork. Both perfectly cooked. Cheese platter to share was also beautifully presented. We did treat ourselves to their top priced merlot ...it was a soft, full, plumb-ish, rich wine..just what I like. Service was excellent.
Interesting setting in the Castle, lovely to explore. Lovely afternoon tea.
The afternoon tea was great. My wife & I would like more sandwiches less cakes but that’s our personal preference. The ladies who served us were lovely very friendly and really looked after us. I would certainly come again & I would highly recommend you to my friends
Great breakfast except DON'T use SPICY sausages ,when the menu states pork sausages,.
12/818 to 13/818 Good food. Unfortunately the staff are obsessed with getting the food out too quickly. Ordered wine, then told it wasn’t available until half way through the starter, More focus on the selling you of bottled water at the start of the meal. Did try asking for a jug of tap water only to be told that they didn’t serve it. Two other tables did have a jug of tap water so could not understand why? Had to wait 25 mins in a 16 person deep queue for breakfast while tables were relaid with no urgency. Then another 10 mins as no cooked breakfast on the buffet. No milk for cereal and no orange juice. We went for breakfast at 9:15 so didn’t leave it to the last miniute . Tied to charge me an extra £30+ at check out so read your final bill carefully. Sorry, but have dined at many 1 to 5 rosette restaurants and this one in my opinion is now a 1.
After a long wait, our afternoon tea arrived. Unfortunately, the sandwich choice was poor and we ended up leaving half of them. However the cakes were lovely but our service was extremely poor. We never got asked if our food and drink was ok.
My husband and I had a lovely afternoon tea on our wedding anniversary, made our day special. Would definitely return.
Very happy with our visit. Particular thanks to Gavin Lea who organised a free upgrade to suites as it was a special birthday celebration for 2 or our party of 6 guests. Will be visiting again!
Lovely afternoon tea . Perhaps just another extra sandwich , would have been perfection, cakes etc was all first class
The food was beautiful. The taste of the ocean starter was a little on the small side but nevertheless delicious. The service let the restaurant down a little and there was little atmosphere due to it being quiet. We felt a little as though we were a nuisance at times.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, the staff made our celebration special by reserving a table in the restaurant with beautiful views over the garden & complimentary drinks! The lovely deluxe double room was just perfect to make our stay really special! This is our second visit and we'll be back again! Thank you to all the staff at Ruthin Castle, especially John in the restaurant! xx
Good food enjoyed our evening young staff were really lovely
Beautiful surroundings, service was ok, seemed to be a bit crammed into once space but overall fabulous experience
The castle and grounds are stunning when you arrive. Unfortunately when we arrived for our meal we were told that we had already booked in but they found us a table. From then on the service was extremely slow, we were told that our order was confused with another table and they were sent our main course before they had been given their starters. When the main course did arrive, I ordered the Beef and it was very fatty inside and dry on the outside without much sauce. We did speak to the service staff at the time and were offered a free drink in the bar but the experience was spoilt for us by then.
as residents part of the package was a two course meal in Bertie's restaurant - the overall experience was good although somethings could have been better. The quality of the starters and main courses was excellent, although the desserts were disappointing. the overall service was okay although after the starters we waited 50 mins for our main course due to communication we were asked who cleared your starters? the team on duty were quite young and one had forgotten to tell the chef that we had finished our starters.Desserts I had a sticky toffee pudding which i could have produced a much better one at home and an ice cream which was very basic three scoops in a bowl both no frills poor in comparison with the rest of the meal. the restaurant is very fitting in line with the history of the castle and overall we still enjoyed the experience.
Desert (Sticky toffee pudding) was slightly disappointing.
Evening meal was lovely portions quite small, breakfast was appalling 9 people in front of us all waiting to seated eventually seated no plates left only small ones ! & no food either Very disappointing
Good value for money.
We would suggest that the cream tea has 2x more sandwiches and 2x less cakes to achieve a better balance
We had a lovely meal in a lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff Thankyou
