The AA rosette awarded "Bertie's" restaurant at 4 star Ruthin Castle Hotel & Spa
Fantastic food faultless service beautiful building
Service could have been better both at dinner and breakfast. Dinner was well cooked however breakfast buffet was only lukewarm.
Food tasted amazing . X definitely be back
Always lovely to visit. Attentive service. Afternoon tea was lovely. Just needs those fires roaring, instead of the flame effect fires.
Have to say that the food was really lovely. The staff we met were very nice and polite!
The castle and grounds are lovely. Can’t wait to book again once the renovation has been done on the bedrooms and spa it looks like it’s going to be amazing! We had the Sunday lunch and it was lovely! Food was very fresh and good portion size too.
Lovely weekend room was amazing
We were really well looked after the young DM was brilliant!! He helped us enjoy the experience Thankyou!!!!
It was lovely
Delightful Afternoon Tea, lovely atmosphere and surroundings and staff were very helpful and made the experience even better ! Loved the beautiful peacocks roaming around the grounds and the fantastic history! Will definately be back , Hayley and Adam
What a wonderful place x
Food and service were excellent!!!
The greeting and seating was carried out perfectly, as was the wine order and delivery. From there onwards it all fell apart. Waiting staff who knew nothing about the menu. No customer contact other than taking the order and delivering food. Serve and remove from any side, no offer of pouring extra wine or asking if we wanted further drinks. It took an hour and a half to be served two courses! We had dessert but were ignored after that. No coffee or post dinner drink offered or discussed. We simply walked out. Then.......... a waitress chased after us asking for a signature! Five minutes later no one had come with anything so we walked off!!!! Went to the bar and were ignored so we went to our room. Some 28th wedding anniversary evening that was! Our 7th visit to Ruthin but sadly our last.
The decor has been recently updated and table layout was nice and well positioned. The menu was nice catering for all tastes. We ordered starters, mains (with a side) and the cheese board to share. Quantity of food good, presentation good and cooked well. Only gripe would be that the steak was a little over cooked but, enjoyable all the same. Service was efficient and pleasantly executed. We were dining on the New Sunday package (Cream tea, dining bed and breakfast) and we thought it was pretty good value. You do need to understand whats included and if you didn't enquire you may think 3 courses were included (as it didn't mention). The dining hall was very nice and the young lady who served our coffee was very well informed in regards to the castle history. Nothing too much trouble and provided a printout of the history also. She explained the planned changes for the Castle now that new owners had taken over. Does sound exciting and will certainly take a look in a month or two about returning. Just hope there's no price hike :-) Well done!!
The food was very good, but we were not told that we had to pay extra for the spring rolls, it should have been made clear before we got the bill. Also it was not made clear to us that we could have had tap water instead of bottles of water, which were over priced. So over all disappointed.
Everything was absolutely wonderful, we was there for 3nights/long weekend away and everybody couldn't do enough. the only criticism i have is the idea of a buffet breakfast having at least two items mixed within the serving dishes ( hash brown mixed with black pudding?) or the lack of vegetarian options at breakfast time, shocked me considering it's a 4* establishment. But overall fantastic. Would definitely come back again
Had a lovely 4 course meal here on Saturday. The atmosphere was wonderful, food could not be faulted, staff were attentive and friendly ( and i am very hard to please). Only downside was our server never offered us any more drinks and when we requested sugar in one of our coffees this was forgotten even though the dining room was practically empty they were only serving us. However apart from this error everything else was amazing. I am already looking to book again and this time to also stay at the castle.
If there were a bit more variety with the veggie sandwiches it would be great but they tasted very nice.
Excellent service with attentive and friendly staff
I had a family get together for my birthday on 20/10 for 8 adults and a baby. The staff were provided excellent service. They were Helpful, attentive and friendly. The food was excellent, well presented, good value for money and tasty. I requested a quiet location and you kindly gave us an area in the restaurant with plenty of space and in a quiet part of the dining room. It was our first visit but certainly not our last. A great day, Thank you all.
The service was excellent. We ( all 5 of us ) thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon tea.
An evening that went from bad to worse. We went into the restaurant, were seated and given menus. It was so dimly lit that we could not read the menus. I said to to the waitress have you got a torch. With this she increased the lighting. When I go into a restaurant that is very dimly lit I automatically think the place must be dirty or the food not very good hoping you will not see it. We were on a two course package. I decided to have a starter and main course and my wife a main course and a desert.. The restaurant was not very warm and like our bedroom the heating fans were on but not blowing any hot air. My starter came and was very nice. Our main course came and it was ok. All the time my wife was getting colder. She decided to go back to the bedroom to get warm. Luckily we always pack a fan which can blow hot or cold air so we were able to warm up our bedroom. My wife ordered the desert and I said to the waitress that I would take the desert to the bedroom for my wife as she was to cold to remain in the restaurant. She asked me to sign for the sundries that we had which was a glass of wine and a £2 supplement for my wife's steak. Upon checking the bill you wanted to charge me £7 for my wife's desert and £5 room service charge for me to take my wife's desert back to the bedroom. To say I was annoyed is a complete under statement. Our meal together had been completely ruined by the cold restaurant and the hassle over the bill only compounded it. Needles to say we shall not be staying her again and I will advise my friends and business associates to do like wise.
Excellent food and superb service. Thanks all.
Food was excellent, compliments to the chef. Servers excellent, drinks very well priced. Great place to eat.
The sandwiches were very plain, bread not very fresh and cakes dissatisfy shop bought :(
