About Bertie's restaurant @ Ruthin Castle Hotel & Spa
The AA rosette awarded "Bertie's" restaurant at 4 star Ruthin Castle Hotel & Spa
Food was ok but run out of the fish which was the choice wanted No other fish selection on menu
Excellent service Excellent staff Excellent food & Drink
not impressed with food, tea lukewarm,
The food was beautiful. My partner had the chicken followed by the sticky toffee pudding and I had the lamb followed by the 70% chocolate with mandarin sorbet, which I have to say was pretty fantastic.
Lovely experience all round, thank you x
We booked online only 30 minutes before we came in. The receptionist pointed us towards the restaurant fine. The waitress couldn’t find our names in her list & said we were only allowed to book 48 hours in advance! She seemed not too happy even though I offered to show her our booking ref & she said no. She then showed us to a table & served us with afternoon tea, not asking if we have any allergies or intolerances.(she asked the people in the other tables) Although we had a lovely tea (bit expensive) we felt that we were a nuisance being there. Waitress just seemed annoyed with us. Maybe if you have a 48 hour notice policy you should get your website adjusted!
Fabulous stay. Only downside was breakfast. Some fresh fruit and nice bread would have been nice.
Excellent food and service
If it's pristine, bland smartness you're looking for then Ruthin Castle is not for you. Now, if it's quirky, rustic charm and old worldliness you want, then look no further! Atmospheric building, set in wonderful surroundings and very welcoming and attentive staff, made our stay most enjoyable. The dinner at Bertie's was excellent and to a very high standard.
The afternoon tea was terrible & way overpriced for what we got. The scones were tiny & not the same as those served with the cream tea. The cakes were small & all dried up like they were cut & then sat out all day uncovered. The sandwiches were warm & they should have been cold. The chicken sandwich was so bad I had to spit it out. It’s a shame because this is an elegant venue, but the food was terrible. I have been to a number of afternoon teas & this was by far the worst. We also had breakfast at Bertie’s & I saw a waitress re-use silverware when setting a table. She cleared the table of the dirty dishes but she kept spoons & knives that she thought had not been used and re-set the table with those. In my country, this is a blatant disregard of health codes. She had no way of knowing that these cutlery items were truly unused. Disgusting.
Staff could not have been more attentive. We were on a specialist diet & didn't want to make any fuss but they took great care to make sure they provided for us, & even went the extra mile to contact us for the next meal to give us ideas of what might be offered - I've never had service like that, thank you.
Amazing! Having Afternoon Tea amongst the peacocks.. would highly recommend it!
A thoroughly enjoyable evening, I have been in the service industry for over 30years, mostly silver service in some of the finest restaurants afloat. My only suggestion, change the background music! A pianist playing softly is far better for guests, and business 🤔
We loved our stay at Ruthin Castle...the service was excellent at the bar and in the restaurant...All staff that we met were friendly and helpful... The food in Bertie's was brilliant and I particularly enjoyed the 'Porn Star Martini' and its unique and humorous presentation ...
Had a lovely afternoon tea with you, staff where very friendly and helpful and food was delicious. Thank you
Lovely food and friendly staff :)
would do it again.
The first night dining here was really busy as you had people in the restaurant and a ‘party or gathering’ In another room. The service staff worked so hard. And at times even the ?manager came to help. People did get slightly confused so maybe do discreet numbers on tables when really busy. I really felt for everyone as my husband and I knew they were doing the best they could. They did come to apologise and explain the situation. The second night was so much more relaxed for them. All the staff including the chef were great. I have food allergies and they done their very best to accommodate. Only let down was breakfast. The buffet warm breakfast was cold :( informed manager so hopefully will be resolved for future diners
Food all good. Atmosphere poor. Paper napkins on some of the tables, whilst others had linen ones. Rubbish music. Bowl of sugar with dissert spoon for tea and coffee at breakfast. Coffee urn in need of a drip tray.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening out at the Ruthin Castle.
Disappointed in the waiter seemed a bit distracted!
Awful service. Waited outside to be seated for approx ten mins before we got seated, otdeted wine didn’t come after 15 mins. Staff lovely but the whole place is unorganised!! Food very average ... worst halloumi I’ve ever tasted !! Ordered side of veg and it was literally a lump of kale thrown in a dish we complained and even the waitress said she thought it looked awful!! Complained at check out at desk and was promised a manager would call us it’s 24 hours we are still waiting unfortunately looks like we will need to put some reviews on the internet which is just not our style
Restaurant and bar were cold. Food was ok,but could be improved.
