Lovely hotel with beautiful restaurant. Very attentive and professional staff. We went for sublime Sunday. The food was excellent. Great starters and our mains of beef and lamb were faultless. However a small criticism/suggestion would be ...could you give more custard with the crumble! Or at least offer a small extra portion or even reduce the quantity of the crumble. We love your crumble but the custard to crumble ration isn’t right and one ends up having to leave a portion of the crumble. An absolute shame! Many thanks.
We stayed in Willow room, toilet needs a silent fill ball valve. Shower does not drain properly. A bin is also needed in bathroom and a shaving mirror. It was quite disconcerting to smell smoke from the log fires below constantly in the room, leaving clothes smelling. Considering this was an upgrade and the first time we have stayed in the main house. I do think these issues should be dealt with as soon as possible as you are graded a 4* hotel. However, as usual the atmosphere of the hotel was as good as ever.

the food was variable with some dishes being exquisite whilst others were poor eg. pommes anna were mostly raw - much better quality control needed! service from all staff couldn't be faulted breakfasts were lovely
Few little glitches but a really nice place
The staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble, especially the chef, who decorated my petit fours plate with Happy Birthday, what a wonderful surprise.
We had a truly terrible experience at your restaurant. It was my husband’s 40th birthday and we were expecting a delicious three course meal. We were given an awful one! The starter was minuscule, tasteless and lazily put together. Main course absolutely disgusting (fish dish tasted of beef dripping and completely over cooked) and pudding massive - could’ve fed 6 people but totally frozen so much that you couldn’t get your spoon into it at all. Tasted like it came from a packet from a supermarket. To top it all off we had to sit and wait for 2 hours (even though there was hardly anyone in the restaurant) for all the courses to come. So upsetting and disappointing considering the cost of the meal. Really lets down what it otherwise a fantastic hotel.
This was our second stay with you and it did not disappoint.
Regarding d,b&b basis it is much better value if you take your evening meal in the bar rather than the restaurant. More food and you avoid a £10 service charge which I assume is a tip for staff. Check your bill after your meal as we were double charged twice for drinks. This seems to be standard practice in a number of establishments I've stayed at recently, so don't feel embarrassed to double check. Also on their website an allowance of £20 was stated for evening meal but later told that it included a three course meal. Just as well because how they can justify to charge £36 for a two course meal in the restaurant is beyond me given that the amount of food you get for the main course isn't significant. Dessert I must say represented better value. Happy with our room including a comfortable bed and helpful staff, especially when they realise that you intend to double check every bill!

service was pleasant, willing but erratic - eg butter on table but no offer of bread until we chased it - first two wines we chose were unavailable, helpful waiter brought his suggested alternatives but not the list dinner menu short and unchanged, disappointing over 2 night stay; food on night 1 was very good and well presented, less so on night 2 breakfast offered nice fruit and ok cooked breakfast, plenty of choices
Order messed up so one person had to wait. And confusion over the wine and that, to accommodate what we were all eating, we wanted a bottle of red and glasses of white at different stages.Cod over cooked. Duck in one person’s order very tough to the point I left some, in another overcooked( the one who waited) the so called confit didn’t resemble any confit I have ever had ( a lot I regularly holiday in SW France). Overall the food was a disappointment. Nice breakfast
Enjoyed your hotel immensely. Breakfast and Dinner was fabalous. Room facilities were excellent. Bar was very quiet at night. We had a night cap there most nights but no one else was there.|
Very relaxed and comfortable surroundings, excellent service and outstanding food. We will definitely return, hopefully to stay and enjoy a few days of the same excellent food and service.

Both our steaks were over cooked and thought the red wine by the glass could be better. A big thanks for the free room upgrade and we love the venue and staff. Breakfast was delicious. This was our third visit and we will be back with friends. Thanks for another great visit John&Claire
As comfortable and welcoming as ever. We had lunch with friends who have recently moved near to Burford and they were most impressed and vowed to be back.
We stay at the Bay Tree fairly frequently and it is fast becoming one of our favourite hotels. The staff are very attentive, the rooms are beautiful and the quality of food in the restaurant is outstanding. Thoroughly recommended.
Really disappointing... far from cozy winter lunch experience... restaurant was freezing and had to openly suggest that hot drinks be knocked off bill. Service was also slow taking approx 40 mins for starters to arrive, mostly soup! Had to request finished cups and teapots to be removed from table between courses . Tried to hide embarrassment from my guests so as not to ruin the occasion.
A gorgeous and fabulous hotel, and an old family favourite. The food is simply divine, the service impeccable and the rooms comfortable and beautifully furnished. I love the oldness of the building and the general atmosphere/ambience. Such a treat to get away here for a Sunday lunch or a weekend away. I cannot recommend it highly enough :) the new spring menu is really delicious, go and try it!

We have been coming to this hotel and restaurant for many years. 5 years ago, the food was of very good quality, but the service was a little lacking. At out last visit, the service was much improved but, sadly, I thought the food quality had declined sharply for dinner. My venison was very overcooked and in bits rather than whole pieces of meat. The savoy cabbage with lardons was inedible and returned. The lardons were great chunks of under cooked watery bacon which seemed to have received no prep at all. The serving staff had to apologize for this which was embarrassing for us and them. My partners meal seemed to be of better quality. A shame for this visit. Hopefully things will improve and the serving staff work hard and have an excellent manner.
