afternoon tea in the garden was a real treat! Staff and location were excellent. Thank you!
With working within the Tourism sector, I know first impressions count. from making the booking to being served, the attention given was first class and nothing seemed too much bother. I believe the waitress on duty was called Alex, she finished her shift before we left but came out of her way to bid us farewell and asked a final time whether we needed anything. We left a tip for her at reception and hope she received it as she most definitely deserved it! Thanks again
We got married here so want to keep coming back each year as it is such a lovely hotel and has such happy memories for us. Was rather cold in the dining room as the door was open, although I know this was requested by another guest. Felt the room lacked a little in atmosphere, maybe because it was chilly. Loved the library with the fire on and staff friendly and attentive. We will be back!
Good food bar could do with some real ale
Dinner service and food was first class. Breakfast service was poor - food arrived before tea and coffee.
Pre-booked afternoon tea as a birthday surprise but there was no-one at the bar to receive us, so after waiting for 5minutes asked at reception who were very apologetic. The bar man then asked what we were having and wasn’t very friendly, providing us 1 plate and 1 napkin for afternoon tea for 2. A female waiting staff brought the food who was very friendly and apologetic and sorted our tea that had not arrived. It’s a shame as my previous experiences have been great, and it was for such a special occasion to receive poor service.
Excellent restaurant- food and service were fantastic. Paf was very professional and amiable as i/c
As I have noticed elsewhere, service often drops off after mains have been taken away. I had to ask for the dessert menu. Otherwise good.
As usual our stay was super......delicious food, excellent service and super ambience. It is always a very warm welcome and everyone makes your visit special. The bedroom was clean and attractive with top quality toiletries. The complimentary turn down service is great and much appreciated. An excellent visit to The Bay Tree again.
I'm afraid this restaurant is living on standards from the past! Very poor food and service, a bit of a shocker for our 20th wedding anniversary! Cut too many corners and will pay the price I feel, what a shame as it used to be a truly wonderful venue but no more sadly.
Staff, service and food great.
Restaurant was busy, insufficient staff to cope. Service was patchy. Microwave defrosted and heated bread rolls were dry to the point of disintegration. water was not offered. Waited too long for red wine with mains. Atmosphere is good, lovely views out into gardens and plenty of space not crowded in with other diners. Selection of wine by the glass was good. Food was a mixed bag, mains were not as advertised, a lamb cutlet with crispy shoulder was a lamb cutlet, however, the crispy shoulder was shredded lamb and raw diced onion pressed into a thick pattie shape. It was neither crispy, quite possibly not lamb shoulder which is delicious and had raw diced onion in it which was out of place. Another main, fillet of venison was tepid, in the main tasty however, there was one piece of reformed meat in the 4 pieces of venison, it was not fillet and not as advertised. We were never asked how we found the food. It is expensive and underwhelming, decidedly not fine dining, yet has the price and theatre of fine dining attached. Overall an expensive disappointment.
This has been an exceptional stay. Probably the best hotel I have ever stayed at. Beautiful surroundings, exquisite décor, amazing food, friendly and attentive staff. Thank-you.
Really delightful, excellent meal, good service
Beautiful cream tea served in the garden. Lovely fresh, warm, light scones with plenty of clotted cream and home made jam, all washed down with a pot of tea. Perfect on a lovely sunny afternoon
Very relaxed atmosphere with excellent food and knowledgeable staff. Food was of a very high standard, piping hot and enjoyable. We are looking forward to a return visit.
We had a lovely stay in one of your g Arden rooms really enjoyed it
Wonderful location, staff faultless, food delicious. A perfect place for that special dining experience.
Great hotel & restaurant, very accommodating when we requested a vegetarian menu, great service & staff!
Unfortunately the main course was only luke warm by the time it arrived (not helped by a cold plate). The lamb was mostly fat and gristle and rather tough.Rather disappoitning for Sunday lunch.
The hotel is lovely, we had a really good meal in the bar about a month ago so thought we would come back for Sunday Lunch for a birthday celebration. Unfortunately the service was terrible we waited far to long for all our coarse, no one asked us if we wanted any more drinks whilst we where at the table nor where we offered the wine list. The restaurant was very quite so there was no excuse for the bad service and to top it all the service charge was still put on our bill! One there small thing was we had coffee after but had no chocolate's with it. This mat sound very silly but the devil is in the detail and this was missing form our visit. I did mention the poor service to the waitress when I paid, there where also two managers present at the time but was not offered and discount or reimbursement of any kind I fear my complaint may have fallen on deaf ears.
Waiting staff need to sharpen up - breakfast order was wrong twice, then we gave up, Staff slow to clear plates . Bacon had been kept warm for too long and was leathery and unpleasant, served on cold plates,
A delight from first to last. Our room had some delightful touches, beds induced immediate slumber and bath and shower were welcoming. Service and of course the food, in the restaurant were excellent and importantly, friendly. We had a small hiccup over the tea but the apology was so fulsome and sincere it was almost worth it! Only little problem was that the stairs are not designed for octogenarians, so next time we`ll opt for the ground floor. However, the exercise probably did us good! Hope to see you again in the Autumn. Kind Regards Anthony Dougall
Excellent meal although we felt it a pity that the menu remained the same for the two days we were staying ( possibly for the week or longer?)and there were no daily specials with only one vegetarian option.
