About Bastion Restaurant
Chef Paul McDonald and his wife restauranteur Helen McDonald are proud owners of Bastion, Kinsale's first Michelin Star restaurant. A contemporary Irish restaurant using as much local produce as possible where all principal ingredients are of Irish origin.
8 course tasting menu was fantastic, desert courses our favorite.
Couldn’t recommend Bastion highly enough. We spent a wonderful evening here. The food was really special - familiar ingredients elevated to become a novel experience. The atmosphere was refreshingly relaxed. Our every need was anticipated and met without any intrusion. I hope we will have the opportunity to repeat the experience very soon again.
All was excellent thank you!"
Excellent experience, I would highly recommend.
Delicious dishes, extremely well prepared, you could see the passion for food, I was astonished! Excellent service probably the best I have ever seen, so attentive and well mannered! Really enjoyed!! Don’t change anything!
Lived up to all expectations. Exceptional food and service. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic service in a relaxed atmosphere. Great product and very tasty food. Everything was cooked perfectly and very flavoursome. The tasting menu was good value for money.
It was a lovely experience, excellent food and atmosphere, every dish was delicious, great wine list. The service was a little too fast at the start but slowed down when the restaurant filled with guests. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Absolutely amazing experience. Outstanding menu and service, thank you.
Fabulous food complimented by superb staff. Lovely relaxed ambiance, made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Would highly recommend.
We had an absolutely amazing night in Bastion. The food was out of this world, unusual yet somehow familiar with really fabulous flavour combinations and perfect timing between every course. We were also lucky enough to have a few additional courses sent out which was such a treat and very much appreciated. The service was exemplary and so attentive, with perfect execution and knowledge of both the food and wine menus. The wine menu was fantastic and so varied, both in options and price. The restaurant itself is very intimate and the way they stagger the service and space out each table is great so you don't see or hear about the courses the other diners are on before it gets to you which we really appreciated. We also felt it was excellent value for money, €80pp for 8 courses and we spent another €50 on a beautiful bottle of Chianti. The whole experience was almost 3 hours and it was a perfect, relaxing evening. We would absolutely recommend Bastion and we can't wait to go back again to see what amazing combinations Paul tries next. Thank you Paul, Helen and the whole team at Bastion, it was a real experience for any food lover.
Great food and great service
Spectacular as always!!
Outstand evening from start to finish. Thank you.
Superb. Would struggle to pick a highlight but it would be either the artichoke or the baked apple yoghurt. The quality of the vegetarian menu was as good as anywhere we’ve been in Ireland or Europe. Informal but top class service. The Prosecco on tap went down well. Only minor quibble was lack of license for beer/spirits - they serve wine only.
