About Baste BBQ
An outdoor BBQ space serving set menu BBQ Feasts of free-range or from rare-breed animals served straight from the smoker and grill and sliced to order. We cook over natural lump wood charcoal, wild cherry wood and Irish whiskey oak barrel staves.
Enjoyable evening, great service, make sure you wrap up!
Great night out, fab food and staff
great spot, very safe from a covid point of view, lots of space between tables and is outside, so loads of ventilation.
Great food, staff and atmosphere!
Food was delicious and service excellent. Once you remember to wrap up warm I would highly recommend.
Honestly the nicest meal I’ve had in as long as I can remember! We had a 20:30 booking and we arrived about 10 minutes early and checked in with the guy at the front who was super friendly! There was already quite the gathering at the front area so we knew it’d be a while before we were seated which is to be expected at a busy restaurant on a Saturday night at that time. The host checked in and updated us a number of times on the status of our table, he also handed out 3 glasses of wine on the house for the wait which was only about 15 minutes over our booking time, a lovely touch! We’d received a call that morning where we were advised there’d only be one fire in the middle of the restaurant so we had dressed accordingly I believe “apres ski chic” was the phrase put out by the person on the phone. Once seated we were greeted by our waitress who was very warm and attentive but also gave us enough space to have our own conversation. We started the meal with some moussaka & breads, the moussaka was so flavourful and the breads a beautiful crispy texture! It wasn’t long before the plate was polished off. To follow not long after 3 portion’s of big, free range, organic wings in a sticky, tangy cranberry BBQ sauce that really set the taste buds alight were dropped on the table by the very knowledgeable server. But, the absolute star of the night was the Christmas spiced beef croquettes that were crispy on the outside, warm fluffy and loving on the inside with a honey mustard dip that took the croquette to another planet! The waitress cleared our plates and we were given a little time before the mains were dropped. 2 thick slices of oak smoked turkey, a generous portion of the ham rib, 1 large gaucho sausage stuffing ball and 2 beautifully glazed and grilled baby carrots were on the plates. Crispy beef dripping potatoes, caramelised sweet potato mash that was smooth and delicious, turkey gravy far superior to anything anyone in my family has been able to muster any Christmas and a cranberry BBQ sauce were put in the middle of the table to share. I can honestly say we didn’t say a word to each other throughout the main course, we were all content to just enjoy this beautiful food in silence and appreciation which is a rare thing in my group. Overall, this was 10/10. If they decide to open up Christmas I’d happily leave my family to have another feed! If you like good food, fantastic people and a wonderful atmosphere this is the place for you! Absolutely beautiful!
Not worth the hype.
Food was very good, really enjoyable. Service was very slow however I think there were not enough people on. The toilet also was not really up to par, motion sensor light would leave you in there in the dark. Also the website specifically said sanitisers on every table, however not one table had any
We did try to offer some constructive criticism, saying the food was flavorsome but very cold on arrival, we were told “we’re outside, what did you expect “! The premises is not heated as advertised in your website... one Smokey barrel does not provide heat to a space like yours. All in all extremely disappointing, freezing and overpriced. I have eaten outside in many premises this year, and no matter the weather we were warm, the food was warm and we didn’t have to pay an exorbitant price. We won’t be recommending or returning.
Great night out. Delicious food - the potatoes deserve a special mention but everything was delicious! Impressive wine list. Brilliant and friendly service. Wrap up warm and enjoy the novelty of an outdoor-ish winter BBQ!
Fabulous food, fabulous staff. Very generous, accommodating and friendly staff despite some organisation issues they were having with opening back up. Great spot for a group meal out and will 100% return again.
The food was amazing and the staff were very pleasant and attentive even when under pressure, as it was noticeably a very busy Saturday night!! Really cool venue and plan to return very soon :)
Was really expecting to enjoy this place given some of the reviews but sadly not the case. Even worse I convinced others to try it out too. To start, arrived on time as requested and was waiting 15 mins to be seated. Considering they make a point of telling you when booking that you only have your table for a set time, that eats into your allotted time already. Then seated at a table with wet seats that we proceeded to sit on which in the current climate makes the experience even worse. No table settings at all; no knives, forks, napkins or glasses and none given until after the starter arrived and had to be requested again. Then comes the food; a revised menu because of some power issues according to staff. For starters, stone cold flat breads and harissa. Not even luke warm - and a single starter size serving for 2 people given on 1 plate. Then 30 mins later, luke warm chicken wings. Seemingly these are organic, we were told, but from what must have been highly underfed organic chickens as they each consisted of about 20% meat. 30 mins later again some actual red meat (ironic given the sell on their website regarding their meat offerings). This was the best bit of a highly mediocre meal. Again, ironically in a meat centred restaurant my veg eating friend enjoyed his food but was confused as to how all of his food got served before even our chicken wings arrived. May go some was in explaining why they were cold I guess. Aside from food the toilet situation is even worse. 1 cubicle amongst all diners and no lock on the door either, so you get the pleasure of cold food and seeing one of your fellow stranger diners ‘squatting over a dirty toilet bowl’ - their words when I walked in on them, not mine. It’s winter so obviously cold outside but they have one barrel with fire in an open space of approx 10 tables so it does nothing to heat the area. My advice is wear multiple thermals. Also the lights kept going off and on. All that and for €25 euros each. I’ve encountered new places and pop ups having teething issues etc but that was not an experience I’d ever be looking to repeat.
Unreal food, coool vibe
Friend and I ordered their Thanksgiving box and waited an hour for our food. We had booked the restaurant for Dec 4th, so thought we'd see now that went before judging. 2 phone calls and an email during the week to confirm we were attending. Another phone call Friday at 330 to say they're delayed getting outside set up, "there's a pandemic going on" etc. Asked if we could move our 730 booking to indoor at 830, maybe 9. I couldn't move due to babysitter booking, asked if we could pick up our food instead, and just got a "we don't do takeaway anymore". But they'd love if we could try their new wine bar asap. Seems like something else going on here that the food wouldn't be available even to pick up. Either way, hoping our deposit refunded asap. Avoid.
Enjoyed the vibe and staff rolling with the changes and adapting. Particularly Peter who explained the dining situation and gave us hot wine with a great story. The red wine was too cold so that needs to get sorted but otherwise very tasty, especially the Turkey! Wow! The ham, I was expecting more of a slow roast and I missed having beers but MVP was right there for a pre-beer. The veggies were excellent! Wrap up warm and expect a long sitting. 👍
Food was lovely, staff were very friendly and overall great experience.
We had such a great experience at Baste over the weekend. The outside seating, attentive staff and delicious food are definitely worth the trip. We’ll be back!
Fantastic food, best BBQ grub I’ve had since the big grill festival! Meats are smoked and cooked to perfection and the sides complement the mains perfectly and the wings were out of this world. Staff were incredibly efficient, friendly and went out of their way to make our night special. Atmosphere was a cool, chilled out Festival vibe with some great tunes in the background. A real treat and a a ray of light in this lock down madness. We will be ordering the takeaway next weekend!!
Great food, great setting and very nice friendly vibe.
Top quality food. Nice setting if the weather is good
Having some buns or rolls to make your own meat sandwiches would be a nice touch.
Food was great but too expensive. By comparison a 3 course dinner in Host, Ranelagh is €38. I think as a €40 set menu this wasn't comparable value.
