When I spoke to a lady on the phone about a good intolerance she was very rude about it and made me feel very uncomfortable
Excellent service and food
A great venue for a relaxing lunch with friends!
We come from time to time, this time with family for lunch. We feel that the quality of food has gone down over the last two years, not presentation but food quality. This time the Sunday lunch beef was poor with gristle throughout. Last time we came with friends and one of us sent back his venison because the potion was so, so small!!
We arrived for an afternoon tea booking well in advance of our allocated time. We were shown to our table on time but then sat and waited half an hour before any food arrived. The food that did arrive was the gentleman’s afternoon tea for my husband which we had already watched being aimlessly walked around the dining room as one of the waitresses had attempted to offload it to another customer before hand. The food looked disappointing to say the least. My afternoon tea at this point was nowhere to be seen. Feeling he had no choice my husband started his food to ensure the chips etc were not cold by the time he got to them. Having then waited around 40 minutes from the time we were shown to our table I decided to go and ask after my food at the bar. The ladies at the bar who were busy serving other customers were surprised to learn that I was waiting on food - I was surprised that they thought it normal that one person would be eating at our table and the other not. I returned to our table and we waited a further 5 minutes or so before a male member of staff approached us and asked if everything was ok. We explained our annoyance and disappointment that my food hadn’t arrived after such a long period of waiting and that my husband had by this point almost finished two thirds of his afternoon tea. The male staff member apologised and then returned to the kitchen. A further ten minutes passed without any update and still no food. We decided at this point that we had had enough. Our afternoon had been ruined so we decided to leave. Upon reaching the till we watched as another couple were also informing the staff of their disgust at the poor service and poor quality of food (also afternoon tea hopefuls). We then advised that we were also leaving, that we wouldn’t be parting with any money and that we thought the service had been extremely poor. We informed the staff that we had slept at Barnsdale and eaten there several times and that on this occasion we had been appalled with the service. The staff apologised again. As we were leaving a further table of 4 had been served their food but had no plates to eat off and had gone searching in the hope of this basic commodity.....
Afternoon Tea for 3. Had to ask for the strawberry jam as none was served with the scones. The pot of coffee was extremely weak. This was mentioned to the hostess when she checked on us after we had finished. She got us another pot of coffee which was perfect. Please don't ever serve below par coffee to your patrons as it is hugely off-putting. It was a very hot day and the panna cotta was liquid as a result. Jugs of ice water were provided as it was 36 degrees. The setting was lovely and a sandwich substitute was provided for one lady in our party who is allergic to salmon. Staff were friendly.
Excellent service & food, in lovely surroundings
Lovely afternoon tea
Every year when we visit Barnsdale we alway have Sunday lunch here. As usual it was as expected: very good all round. Highly recommended.
We booked a meal to celebrate our engagement. The location is lovely and the food was excellent. Service was very good and staff friendly. Would highly recommend.
Quiet and comfortable accommodation. We were particularly impressed with the staff on Friday night.
Fantastic service in a lovely venue with great food.
We had a wonderful relaxing stay The venue was fabulous The staff team were all very friendly helpful and professional particularly Our evening waitress Jerry she is a major “Gem “ to your team.. made us feel like old friends.. also the reception lady on Sunday morning Who made it possible to purchase a stag pin for my brother.. 😃 Many thanks.. will be recommending to my family and friends 🌈⭐️✨. Thanks for the memories made..
Both my Wife and I really enjoyed our champagne afternoon tea which I booked as Birthday treat for my wife. The setting of the hotel and grounds is beautiful and we might just come back as overnight guests.
Brilliant service, the staff were very attentive. The dining room had a nice atmosphere and we were seated right in front of a window with a lovely view over some of the grounds. The food came out very quickly and was of a high standard. Will definitely be coming back again!
Connie was wonderful and anticipating our ever need . Wonderful setting and staff . We will be back .
Really disappointing Been many times but service was really bad Waited 20 minutes to be served, one of the two mains on the fixed menu not available (not told at the outset), ages for food to be served, too hot in the dining room, just really unpleasant experience and not good value for money Don’t appreciate automatic service charge when it is not warranted Won’t be back and will be telling friends of our poor experience also
We were put in the room which had the door into the kitchen and for 2 hours we had constant to-ing and fro-ing of the staff with plates and chat. This ruined the lunch to be honest as it was not peaceful. The problem was raised with the manager who mentioned that we were not the first people to complain about this room. The food was good.
The food on this visit had room for improvement but could be just one over cooked steak, the staff in general were short, not very friendly and served food and left without checking if there is anything else you require be that sauces or drinks with the exception of who I believe was the restaurant manager. The rooms could do with some updating such as a fridge for fresh milk without having to call reception also the addition of an in room coffee machine would go a long way. We come back every year to the same room for our wedding anniversary and no matter what negatives there might be we always have a lovely stay and will continue to return for years to come
Thank you for letting us share a lovely afternoon together with our bride to be, we loved the cakes. Would have been nice to be offered another pot of tea...but our only niggle! We will be back again soon with our American family who are coming over to Rutland for the wedding and want to experience an English Afternoon Tea.
Booked online for 'Standard Reservation' for 2.30 pm on Easter Sunday. 75 mile round trip to be told that Sunday Lunch is not served after 2.00 pm. Beware, the booking website does not make it clear that the options below your booking are the only options available, not additional to your 'Standard Reservation'. Have booked dozens of times online for other restaurants without this problem. Understandably, will not be trying again.
We were disappointed that the white bread was quite stale and that the spoons provided to eat the pannacotta with were too large to be able to eat the last bit at the bottom.
Our party of 6 had just completed Rutland Half Marathon and were looking for somewhere to celebrate with good food wine and surroundings and couldn’t have picked better. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Couldn’t fault anything. Maybe not the cheapest but as the saying goes “you get what you pay for” and we didn’t leave disappointed! 👍
WEe had an excellent stay and a first rate dinner. The service was eager, fruiendly and efficient. my only, mimor, complaint was that in corresponence the hotel always addresses me as Dear Rogister. I would prefer Dear Mr Rogister or even Dear John !
Five of us sat down to a wonderful lunch in the Conservatory. The Sunday Lunch menu was excellent, the roast beef in particular memorable. We enjoyed a very relaxing afternoon.
