Afternoon Tea is served daily 2.30-4.30pm
Lovely setting, unfortunately we were the only ones having afternoon tea. Scones were one of the best we've ever had and the lemon curd was delicious. The tea could have been served in a china teapot rather than a canteen type stainless steel one and loose leaf tea would have been expected for the price.
We were taken to our table and then left. The wine was already on the table but no- one asked us to try it or offered to pour it. Some of the table items were missing I.e. a side plate and two knives. We had to ask for tap water twice before receiving it. This all gave a poor first impression. However, we enjoyed the meal and took coffee in the lounge.
A totally wonderful afternoon spent in the conservatory to celebrate an 80th birthday. The food, service and setting was perfect and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a special place to spend with family and friends.
Good food and service but a little out of the way in the rather dark rear dining room rather than in the bright conservatory, not too bad for a four but could be grim for a couple with only one other occupied table.
Extremely disappointed with our 70th birthday celebration lunch. Chips were raw, coffees luke warm and staff unable to make proper floater coffees. The tea order never arrived. We had to share the lounge with a wedding party so had to leave early because of the squash and noise!
From arriving on the night before our sons wedding to the actual wedding breakfast everything was excellent. Food was cooked to perfection, and everything ran smoothly and professional.
Service and reception by staff was excellent. Quality of food was very poor and therefore overpriced. Would not recommend.
Enjoyed every minute of our stay
Fabulous staff, so friendly and helpful. A great menu with gorgeous food and a good wine list. Couldn’t ask for more.
A lovely situation in the conservatory, fairly good price for afternoon tea, sandwiches and scones were lovely, cakes were not wonderful, they felt a bit shop bought.
A very enjoyable evening enhanced by the attention of the staff and the quality of the food.
Scrumptious food - super staff - serene setting - highly recommend
Thank you so much for making my best friends suprise baby shower so special!
Lovely personal dining room. We will certainly come again. We thought the staff were lovely and attentive. The food was great and the wine was good. Thank you!
Lovely food, service and atmosphere as always! Thanks to Tomasz (hope I’ve spelt that correctly!) particularly - Gill and Will Hayes
Food was ok but nothing special for a Sunday lunch. Service was terrible, we waited almost an hour for our food after we placed the order. Ironically they asked us, when we checked in, not to stay at the table after we had finished as they were very busy and needed the table for another lunch sitting and then afternoon teas.
We were 20 years ago in your restaurant and now for our wedding anniversary. We enjoyed our time in a wonderful atmosphere.
When I spoke to a lady on the phone about a good intolerance she was very rude about it and made me feel very uncomfortable
Excellent service and food
A great venue for a relaxing lunch with friends!
We come from time to time, this time with family for lunch. We feel that the quality of food has gone down over the last two years, not presentation but food quality. This time the Sunday lunch beef was poor with gristle throughout. Last time we came with friends and one of us sent back his venison because the potion was so, so small!!
We arrived for an afternoon tea booking well in advance of our allocated time. We were shown to our table on time but then sat and waited half an hour before any food arrived. The food that did arrive was the gentleman’s afternoon tea for my husband which we had already watched being aimlessly walked around the dining room as one of the waitresses had attempted to offload it to another customer before hand. The food looked disappointing to say the least. My afternoon tea at this point was nowhere to be seen. Feeling he had no choice my husband started his food to ensure the chips etc were not cold by the time he got to them. Having then waited around 40 minutes from the time we were shown to our table I decided to go and ask after my food at the bar. The ladies at the bar who were busy serving other customers were surprised to learn that I was waiting on food - I was surprised that they thought it normal that one person would be eating at our table and the other not. I returned to our table and we waited a further 5 minutes or so before a male member of staff approached us and asked if everything was ok. We explained our annoyance and disappointment that my food hadn’t arrived after such a long period of waiting and that my husband had by this point almost finished two thirds of his afternoon tea. The male staff member apologised and then returned to the kitchen. A further ten minutes passed without any update and still no food. We decided at this point that we had had enough. Our afternoon had been ruined so we decided to leave. Upon reaching the till we watched as another couple were also informing the staff of their disgust at the poor service and poor quality of food (also afternoon tea hopefuls). We then advised that we were also leaving, that we wouldn’t be parting with any money and that we thought the service had been extremely poor. We informed the staff that we had slept at Barnsdale and eaten there several times and that on this occasion we had been appalled with the service. The staff apologised again. As we were leaving a further table of 4 had been served their food but had no plates to eat off and had gone searching in the hope of this basic commodity.....
Afternoon Tea for 3. Had to ask for the strawberry jam as none was served with the scones. The pot of coffee was extremely weak. This was mentioned to the hostess when she checked on us after we had finished. She got us another pot of coffee which was perfect. Please don't ever serve below par coffee to your patrons as it is hugely off-putting. It was a very hot day and the panna cotta was liquid as a result. Jugs of ice water were provided as it was 36 degrees. The setting was lovely and a sandwich substitute was provided for one lady in our party who is allergic to salmon. Staff were friendly.
Excellent service & food, in lovely surroundings
Lovely afternoon tea
