Sat 18th May. We very much enjoyed our meal. The food was piping hot and very tasty. The wine was ice cold and complimented our food perfectly. If it wasn't for a miserable old couple in the corner who loudly complained about everything despite the manager doing his utmost to placate them - the atmosphere would have been perfect too. I would recommend this as a place for dinner. Well done to all.
The food, roast beef, was beautifully cooked. The Yorkshire pudding was HUGE and very light. The only thing I was disappointed with was the vegetables. One long part of a carrot and green beans. More carrot would have been nice. The waiting staff were excellent.
We very much enjoyed our meal which was delicious and well presented. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the service was efficient. We did not enjoy the slightly too loud piped music but when we asked it was turned down. We used a voucher for our meal and this meant we felt it was good value for money. After our meal we very much enjoyed wandering round the beautiful gardens. Well certainly be back.
Lovely venue. The food was fine but I think better when we went under the previous management
We had the set lunch staff good . The beef that we had and the starters were very nice however Yorkshire pudding over cooked and crumbled into powder did not complain as being at this kind of establishment was surprised it was served on my husbands plate ,also one carrot no parsnips
Beautiful venue, great service and tasty food. We were a little disappointed with the meat served for Sunday lunch. The lamb was fatty and the portion size of edible meat was small. The seabass fillet was well cooked but I would expect two sea bass fillets for the price.
The food was very well presented and delicious, but the service was poor. We had to wait over half an hour for our starter which was a cold dish and my friend and I were the first to sit down in the dining room. Apologies were given though. I thought the food was rather expensive and so on the second night of our stay, we ate in the bar.
Our one night at Barnett Hill Hotel including dinner was absolutely idyllic. Without doubt the fact that we were upgraded to a superior king room was incredible and made the stay. We had views across the downs and dual aspect room, with incredible stand alone bath and walk in shower. So bright and comfortable. The perfect warm sunshine helped too and having a g&t on the lawn accompanied by birdsong and the odd rabbit at sunset was just wonderful. All the staff were so kind and welcoming. Dinner was delicious, and we couldn't fit a third course had we wanted to the portions were so generous. The wine list was a little restricted, but excellent value for money. The only comment about the grounds would be the pond to the side which has benches to sit on around it, but it wasn't filtered, the fountain wasn't working and there were no fish! Might have been time of year. But an absolutely wonderful stay. Thank you, and of course thank you for the upgrade that made it even more special. Paolo & Kristel
Food was excellent; However, Maitre'D appeared grumpy and not very welcoming; Service slow - we waited over 45 minutes for our main course plates to be cleared & to be approached for our dessert order;
When we are arrive the staff ignored us and pretended we weren’t there until I got annoyed and said ‘hello’ Staff were arguing about being too busy Staff left dirty plates in the hallway where customers were walking past. I was embarrassed to be there
Attended for a sunday lunch via a Groupon voucher.Service was slow and atmosphere in the room non-existent. When it arrived the vegetables were rock hard and undercooked. Roast chicken to us means a bird has been cooked, basted and carved- this was just a lump of breast meat that had been shoved in the oven and then served- little flavour, In fairness, my roast beef was very nice and the vegetables adequate- but the Yorkshire puddings were so cold they might have come straight from the fridge. Pointless returning or complaining as there was no-one in sight, it was all too slow and we had somewhere else to be that afternoon.. Overall very disappointing, we will not be eating there again.
Beautiful grounds and friendly staff. I had issues with my order and they did not have any children's menu, but once it was corrected it was very good.
Had a delicious meal with my son and we both would thoroughly recommend the food and service.
We went to Barnett Hill for a Saturday break and very much enjoyed it. The room was spacious and comfortable, with all the facilities we needed ,and the grounds were perfect for a walk. The food was excellent, though the Oak Room was a little gloomy at dinner time. The staff were frindly and suitably attentive.
Staff are very accommodating and friendly. Food was superb and we enjoyed everything we had!
Fantastic oak panelled restaurant, excellent service, and well presented great food!
Excellent meal, wonderful room and beautiful surroundings. We hope to come back soon
Good things : They were accommodating of our small 6 month old and made an effort to bring us extra fruit when requested etc. Beautiful setting and wellies provided for walking around the grounds. We were in a newly refurbished splendid suite which was a beautiful room with a nice bath. Negatives: 1.Cleaning standards of room poor. Dirty towels and bin bags left on the floor outside our front door for most of the first day. When we returned, empty glasses of drinks etc had not been removed from the room. 2. Service in restaurant was poor over breakfast (lunch ok, dinner good) .. staff seemed overwhelmed/disorganised and we had to request for plates to be removed from our table so we could have next course etc .. 3. Although we booked a suite - there was no fridge in the room! We were offsite in a separate building to the main reception so they kept our baby’s milk and food there and brought it to our room when we wanted. Small inconvenience. 4. On checkout no assistance offered to help with luggage - we were just told to ‘leave the key card in the room’. Overall beautiful settling but the service was not that of a four star hotel and needs improvement.
Room stunning , just need to get rid of the cobwebs in breakfast room and bar in corners and in the main lights !!
Service great, starters and pudding lovely but main course disappointing although the service did mean we didn’t pay for one main but would rather of had a good meal. Bar food and breakfast very average and expected higher standard. Bacon clearly reheated and how difficult is it to do a great Caesar salad or club sandwich. I see no reason why food can’t be cooked to order rather than reheated, pre mixed or put in microwave! That’s how it tasted to us but atmosphere and surroundings were fabulous. Get the food right and it’s a winner! Then we’d be back.
Bathroom was extremely cold. Despite asking reception to fix it was not warmer. Therapies had been booked but were then cancelled, that was not great.
The bar menu was not up to the standard of the place. Same for The service. The food was ok but nothing special. We were expecting finer food. Petits fours were clearly ready made frozen. Bread was also. The room was lovely however. The place is beautiful.
Was overall happy with our experience and will come back
On a whole average, at best. The room was lovely but cold. Most staff great. The restaurant was very disappointing. I expected more from Tempura prawns cocktail at £12..... 1 king prawn tempura, the rest a cheep prawn cocktail, NO wheaten bread, the worst prawn cocktail I've had! Breakfast was even worse. Smoked haddock that was off and sent back unbeatable. If this is a rosette kitchen then I feel someone is telling lies!! I look forward to a response.
