We had a lovely meal at the Oak Room while staying at the Barnett Hill Hotel. There was a wedding on at the same time but despite being busy with 110 wedding guests, the service was excellent and we were well looked after. We both had steak, which was cooked exactly as requested and the triple cooked chips were delicious. We didn't have room for dessert (though there were some tempting options) so we opted for coffee and petit fours.
We had an amazing day, the food and drinks were all wonderful, the staff were so very friendly, professional, and went above the call of duty to make sure our guests and ourselves were looked after. Everything ran like clockwork - would love to do it all over again!!! Many thanks to all x
Had a great stay for my husbands birthday, looked after so well by the staff especially Mehdi who couldn’t do enough for us and everyone else, a fantastic front of house guy who made our stay.
Try not to visit if there is a wedding reception.
Unfortunately we were the only 2 people in the restaurant at the time so the atmosphere can be quite different to a busy restaurant. Had to ask for water.
My wife and I are both Vegan and Jose, the chef came to meet us, as he is vegan too. Jose had devised a menu especially for our stay and we felt confident that what was on the menu was 100% vegan...this makes a change when going out for a meal! Jose is a lovely guy who ensured we were happy with each course, even though he had a large party to cater for. The meal was fantastic and one of the best we have had and we have dined at many 2 rosette restaurants! Jose also requested to see us at checkout to ask how breakfast was...breakfast was not organised by Jose, which was a shame as it was dreadful! I'm sure if Jose would have been in charge it would have been perfect! Massive thanks to Jose for a fantastic meal on our wedding anniversary!
Lovely Sunday roast, everything cooked to perfection. Melt in mouth Yorkshire pudding and tender beef. Delicious treacle sponge, not too sweet or sickly. We will be back.
Poor service at dinner -understand there was a wedding going on but we literally had to ask the waiter for everything, dinner menus, bread, dessert menu and bill, it was an exasperating experience.
Appauling service and very bad management from start to finish would not recommend at all such a shame as everyone was looking forward to it as a special treat for my mother;s birthday
Relaxed evening at a very pleasant venue.
I found our stay at Barnett Hill a rather odd experience from beginning to end. As for dinner, I requested a table for 7.45pm, and the hotel simply confirmed it for 6.45pm without having called or asked if that was convenient. On arrival at the hotel, we requested that the time be pushed back. We had to wait for a call to our room for that to be confirmed - thankfully it was. When we did sit down for dinner, service was very slow. We were not given any bread and were only offered water when the table next to us asked for it. There was a very long wait (about 45 minutes) between starters and mains. We didn’t hang around for dessert. The food was decent enough, but pricey for what it was. The steak could have done with a mushroom and salad garnish; the fish could have come with some vegetables. The waiter that we had towards the end of our meal and during breakfast was very friendly.
We booked to stay here as a first night away after having our little girl. The hotel in the afternoon was amazing, bar staff very attentive and nothing to much trouble. Just a shame when it came to dinner the same couldn't be said. We were seated and eventually after 15/20 minutes had to stop someones to ask if we could have a drink. eventually ordered dinner. They did let my other half order from the bar menu which isn't normally allowed. The food was very quick which for a full restaurant was very good. The quality of the food was not bad. Not as good as i had hoped for a double rosette restaurant though. We were offered some water for the table and were still waiting for that now. The breakfast in the morning i would make sure your there early because if you go down after 9:30 there won't be much left as we discovered and its all cold. Asked if they could cook fresh and were told they had ran out now. the hotel is lovely and rooms very good. Shame about the restaurant on this trip. Would give it another try possibly as the hotel is in a lovely setting.
Great menu and very friendly and flexible staff
Attentive service, excellent food... A lovely evening!
Fabulous grounds, beautiful hotel
No ambience in the restaurant, food was very dry ( had to send one dish back! )
Beautiful hotel set in wonderful gardens. Room we had did not disappoint as it was very luxurious.. only weak area was the food as it was not as good as I was expecting for a hotel this lovely. We would definitely stay again although not sure if we would have dinner.
Best yet, great food, top chef. Some background music might help and new staff member lacked menu knowledge, but still a 5 star overall. Fantastic stay. Breakfast was also the best yet, little things made it different and the serve to order top knotch
Fantastic food, was quiet but that’s ok. Waiter hovered over us a bit but a very minor quibble!
Extremely comfortable in beautiful setting and fine cuisine.
Had a very relaxing short break. Hotel and environment excellent as were the friendly staff
We had a lovely meal in the restaurant, enhanced by fabulous service by the Greek waiter serving us. As we were full and wanted to enjoy the gardens before it got dark, We asked for the dessert to be served in our room later, which was not a problem at all. When the dessert arrived, there was complimentary plate of delicious truffles and a ‘Happy Anniversary’ greeting. Such a lovely gesture. Thank you.
Front of house definitely needs working on look so miserable would definitely update them with someone who knows how to smile 😀
Due to a rowdy conference group who were in the dining room next door and throughout our stay were in all the public area we would have liked to use. (Terrace , library etc) The effect on us was to totally destroy any enjoyment we could have had. Food was unimaginative, pricey and not value for money
Tasty food and attentive service. A beautiful setting both inside and out. Lucky to see the partial eclipse of the moon from the terrace.
