About Bar Esteban
Growing up under the shadow of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Pablo had a passion for cooking from a very young age. After attending the Joan Ramon Benapres culinary school in Sitges he moved to London to broaden his experience.
His first role in London was Chef de Partie at Barrafina, where he rotated quickly through all of the stations from pastry to plancha. After a year or so, it was time for a new challenge, which was found at Moro, in Clerkenwell.
When Moro opened Morito, Pablo was at the helm and focused his attention on tapas, mainly from the Andalucian region of Spain.
Pablo joined bar esteban in February 2013 as Head Chef and we are delighted to have him on board.
“I love fresh seafood especially if you have caught it yourself, my favorites are cuttlefish, clams and crab. We’ll have lots of great seafood on the menu as well as other daily specials, mainly from the regions of Catalunya, Pais Vasco and Andalucia. Cooking is my love, I don’t think I could ever be without it – the only other thing that comes close is FC Barcelona!”
So, whether you’re in the mood for razor clams, slow braised ox-tail, or simply a great tortilla bocadillo, we hope you stop by soon.
Really good tapas. We had forgotten our glasses (doh!), so asked the waitress to chose a selection for us, which she happily did. Fantastic flavours in all 6 dishes, the aubergine sauce was a tad sweet, but otherwise a perfect lunch. Great wine and desert too. Chef came out to ask us how we wanted the pork prepared at one point (that was the best dish by the way). Wish we’d photographed them all.
Food and drink were excellent as always, and the friendly staff were welcoming and accommodating - as they always are. There was a problem in the kitchen in producing food with a 45 minute interval. That's very Spanish - but it hasn't happened before and we weren't warned. We suggest you put it on the menu so people who are going hell for leather ot have eaten within the two hour slot you allow us on a Saturday night, are not anxious as to whether they will be asked ot leave before they have finished eating! Or take away the "you have to leave at 9.00" frorm the booking so you can relax if you have a long wait.
Exceptional in every way. As a regular customer I don’t know why I get blown away by how consistently amazing the tapas are ... it’s my go to for celebrations, girly cocktail catch ups.. and business lunches .. I love bar Esteban
Your Homage to Jerez evening was very enjoyable and memorable The food was great as was the entertainment.
Nice to know a restaurant serving food this good is only 20 metres from our front door!
As great as ever. That's why we keep coming back!
Had a great night wit friends. little loud and maybe there could be a better range in prices for wines, but otherwise it was a great evening.
My favourite local place! Thank you xx
Love this place, food and service excellent! Acoustics are pretty bad so we were having to shout at each other as very noisy. Might have been worse as we had a corner table.
Great food and a very enjoyable evening.
Great food and service.
Excellent food and cooking. The black rice with crab was amazing. The starter tapas were delightful, especially the stuffed courgette flower, the salt cod croquettes, the heritage tomato salad and the simple tomato on bread. It would be good to have a few more wines nearer to £20. Then I’d drink more and eat more and be able to come more often!
Fantastic local tapas. A Crouch End favourite!
An enjoyable evening; high quality tapas, wine and service. My only criticism is that the table we were shown to was in a very congested space but that was resolved when we were moved to another.
Delicious food and wine. Initially sat in a tight corner table by the kitchen but were very accommodating when we asked to move to a nicer table by the window. We always enjoy coming to Bar Esteban.
A great evening, the food was delicious and the staff were very helpful as one of our party had special dietary requirements.
Really lovely evening. Great food, fantastic service and wonderful atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back.
Good food and great atmosphere
Great as always!!
Absolutely gorgeous food, excellent vibe and lovely helpful service.. can’t fault it.. loved it and can’t recommend highly enough!
Alway a good meal at Bar Esteban! Love this place and always have.
Food arrived quick and hot, maybe tables a bit to small to hold the food?? Wine was brilliant and at right temperature. Food was tasty and with that homemade touch. I’m Spanish and have been in a few Tapas places around London, this is probably not the cheapest but definitely the best.
The meal was lovely, but they brought the side salad out after we had eaten the majority of our meal. They were happy to take this off the bill, but when we asked to split the bill they rounded this to an extra 2.88 on top of the 8.12 discretionary charge without our permission. Not really much point taking the salad off really!
Another great dinner at Bar Esteban!
The restaurant smelt very unpleasant, of toilets or bleach and that significant effected our experience. However the toilets themselves were lovely. The service was attentive and friendly though when we said that we didn’t eat meat or shellfish the waiter said coming to tapas restaurant was silly. There was just enough choice for us (non meat / non-shellfish eaters) but none of it felt healthy. Lots of fried / deep fried food. The food was fine but not exciting nor exceptional and for what we got it was pricey - £13 for a very small piece of tuna for example.
