About Bar 44 Cowbridge
Welcome to Bar 44 Cowbridge
The Bar 44 Group of Tapas Bars are all slightly different with their own unique menus and ambience.
There is, however, one common theme which runs through them all....the passion and desire to bring the very best food, drink and hospitality from modern Spain to the heart of South Wales.
Disappointing portion sizes, considering we were a party of six. Why would you put only 5 prawns out, when you know you're catering for six?
Had Sunday lunch.. highly recommended, it was delicious.
We used the function room with the tapas set menu with some pre orders. A lovely venue and great atmosphere. Portion sizes were very small, the 10 extra portions of pan con tomate I ordered equated to about 12 small cut pieces of bread. I believe one portion would usually be 2 pieces, so be ware if ordering lots as you get less! 5 portions or dates equated to 9 dates. The lamb meatballs were delicious but only enough for 1 each, maybe 1.5 if shared out equally. The individual pre orders, vegetarian and vegan were mixed in with the general things or just put into a big table and despite me pointing out who was having what in advance and on the night, unfortunately the staff didn’t serve the food to the right people which meant others were eating their food! I spent all night playing waitress making sure everyone had the right dishes and that everyone had food. I originally thought the food would be served around the guests by the waiting staff, hence the request for the service charge. However food was brought into the room of 30+ people and put on one table at one end, with no explanation of what the food was. The food was also very slow to come out, despite asking for it at 7.30 the first dish came out at 8.15 then nothing for ages. Everyone demolished the vegetarian things that came out 1st. The food came very slowly for the next 2/3hours. It would be good to be given an indication of how many of each item had been allowed per person, and for them to have been handed around. As some “buffet hoggers” placed themselves by the one table and were possibly eating others individual portions. I ordered extra food to make up the set menu, and there still wasn’t quite enough food. Luckily I ate before attending, and still wasn’t full! Towards the end of the evening we realised 3 pre ordered dishes hadn’t come, so had to chase these. Luckily although the kitchen had closed they were able to accommodate them and offered to take them off our bill. The bar in the corner was lovely, the poor bar man was rushed off his feet all night, many guests were going downstairs to get drinks, and cocktails weren’t generally available upstairs. Ahead of the night we were advised that it would have been possible to order cocktails at the bar and they be made for us downstairs. This simply wasn’t possible at the time due to only one bar staff, so if you wanted something they didn’t have upstairs you had to go get it yourself. The one bar man was rushing around to serve all of us, fetching ice, fetching money and working non stop and really could have done with better support from his colleagues. Despite that he did a marvellous job. So in all a lovely venue and delicious food, but the service is not yet set up for such events. Therefore with two bar staff and staff training for better service the night would have top class.
The staff were superb. Friendly and professional we no doubt will be coming back
The food was delicious, about £25 a head, which was excellent value. The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were friendly and attentive. The dates wrapped in pancetta were a particular highlight. I would highly recommend a visit.
Staff are always so helpful and attentive
Food was nice, although the same aioli sauce came with too many dishes. Service was good and friendly. A little pricey.
Really great! Love it!
Amrywiaeth o fwyd blasus ond y pris yn uchel braidd am y cynnwys. Gwasanaeth yn dda ond gan mai ond ni ac un par arall oedd yn y bwyty, doedd dim awyrgylch arbennig yno.
Not all the tapas dishes are ‘amazing’ which is what you expect for the price. Made a simple request when booking for two drinks on ten table for arrival yet 20 mins after arrival no drinks brought or even asked for. Disappointing. Pros, great atmosphere! Lovely venue.
I’m a regular as it delivers what I want every time ...,.. anyone who has not tried it needs to 🤷🏼♂️
We had a brilliant evening. The food and drinks were Lovely however the service with drinks was very slow. Overall a great night was had by the whole party and I would recommend bar 44 to friends and family. Many thanks
Awesome place u have to go to experience this excellent place
Sunday roast was excellent
Had the Sunday lunch menu - one beef ( sharing) and one chicken (sharing) platters. Really excellent. Would highly recommend for Sunday lunch, cauliflower cheese particularly delicious!
Great food and service as always
A great Ans different Sunday lunch will do again
Best Tapas this side of the Rhigos mountain 🤠
The only downside to the visit was the state of the ladies toilets, one of which was blocked and the other of which was very dirty. A huge disappointment after such a lovely meal and great welcome. Mike Hughes
We always love coming to Barr 44 and are never disappointed!!
Very good food, relaxed atmosphere.
Great tasting food. Never fails!
Excellent service and food only down side is it can get very loud due to the acoustics and is sometimes very difficult to have a conversation
A really lovely evening enjoyed at Bar 44 again. It’s our favourite place to go in the Vale. Top quality food and nice range of drinks enjoyed by all of our party of six. The ambience is great too. Thanks again.
