From the colourful markets of Hanoi to the bustling streets Ho Chi Minh City, the depth of this amazing culture is within each traditional dish.
The heart of Vietnam beats stronger than ever in Banh Bao Brothers as traditional food intertwines with modern appeal. Tour the scenic hillsides, endless coastline, and the busy markets that make-up this special corner of the globe. More than just a Pho Joint, our restaurant and bar begins a new age of authentic Vietnamese cuisine in the United Kingdom. Well-composed plates brimming with style make-up every bite as friends debate which item to dive into next. Laughter spills into the colourful streets beneath the station as the Vietnamese food and drinks keep coming. Whether hanging with the pals, a romantic rendezvous or going all out on the town, we are here to let the good times roll.
A quick bite or an all-day session is a quick step beneath Waterloo station. Near the well-known Graffiti Tunnel, the Leake Street Arches serve as home to many local businesses. Repurposed brick-laden archways off historic streets add charm and function to the entire neighbourhood. Where creativity and community collide, the growing area provides a quintessential urban experience. As expected, freedom of expression is quite strong in the only area of London where graffiti is legal. The first restaurant to open in the tunnel, Banh Bao Brothers continues to lead a culinary rebirth in a legendary spot. An inviting environment reflects a proud tradition while embracing the hip vibe.
Two founders who grew up as brothers allow a passion for food to further their success. Large doors guarded by the two Banh Bao Brothers warmly invite visitors into the spacious lobby. Inside, a traditional ambiance with urban flair pays homage to a rich heritage and style of cooking. Blending a natural décor within an industrial setting, bamboo light boxes create an alluring forest fit for the city. A vibrant bar alongside colourfully painted walls reflects the personality of this lively, diverse area. Each party receives a pleasant greeting from accommodating hosts as smells from the kitchen hit the nose.
Nobody knows food like grandma, and the story behind our own success is no exception. Thanks to our very own Madame Bay, we are able to share her traditional recipes with central London. Madame Bay’s zest for life and commitment to her family inspires us to deliver the very best to our visitors. A young, professional crowd of locals come together each day to share dishes made from the freshest ingredients in town. More than just noodles, Vietnamese cuisine is a fresh and healthy option, convenient for groups. A selective menu enables a steady rotation of favourites and seasonal specialties. The Vietnamese flavours you know and love, along with a few surprises, is in these dishes rarely found outside the country.
Tending to thirteen children wasn’t always easy, but Madame Bay sure made it seem so. Putting on huge banquets each day, grandma let her love shine brightly through every dish. Thankfully, her skills are available to the next generation of Vietnamese chefs. Ray, our head chef and co-founder of Banh Bao Brothers, is this legacy’s last student. Based on Madame Bay’s very own cookbook, our menu keeps her talents alive each day. Rich flavours from the soul from authentic recipes continue to give the city a true taste of Vietnam. Spread the word, this gourmet grub hub is quickly changing the way the U.K. views Vietnamese food.
Take a step into a kitchen Madame Bay would be proud of where mouthwatering delicacies are regularly born. Only the freshest, locally sourced ingredients go into each of our heart-filled creations. Fragrant bundles of mint and basil along fresh cut lime wedges perfume the air as fresh garlic sizzles in a hot wok. Steam from fresh baos and slow-cooked broths simmer to fill the room with a hearty steam. Bright vegetables, herbs, and fiery chilis take a whirl in the pot to become delicious takes on old favourites. Tinder meat and crisp seafood join a colourful bouquet of seasonal vegetables to create perfectly balanced servings. Keep an eye on new items hitting the ever-changing menu, a seasonal treat is always around the corner.
One of the most popular places to gather in the area, our bar has a drink menu featuring smooth libations throughout the day and night. The welcoming neon hue of the “Jade Dragon Bar” is irresistible to a friendly clientele that is always up for a flavourful beverage. The fully stocked bar is finely plated with dragon scale tiles that transport onlookers to another time. A Vietnamese-inspired cocktail menu puts a modern spin upon old world charm. Punchy flavours and complex layers create a potent mix that is sure to make a splash. With a swift shake, premium ingredients come together in intoxicating masterpieces fit for any palate. Tropical cocktails stand at attention as the bar’s lively murals dancing colourfully in the background. The dragon comes to life while the best of friends indulge in a treasure buried under Waterloo Station.
Brunch and dinner menus feature a range of shared plates alongside larger servings for the Hangry. Four bao combinations are available throughout the day and represented by our friends of the restaurant. Each character is ready to guide taste buds along a wild ride... with plenty of twists and turns. Our signature dish the "OG", is a traditional banh bao reminiscent of the food lining any Vietnamese street. The atmosphere is buzzing as old-world charm comes to life in a new age space. Feel free to sample each bao flavour as our chef concocts them throughout the day. Watch the sights and sounds of the day fly by with a fresh round of banh baos alongside a conceptualised cocktail.
Too often, authenticity and variety are lost as cuisines make their transition into the western world. While the most widely recognised Vietnamese dish, Pho is only one of a broad spectrum of recipes originating from Vietnam. In fact, the country has more varieties of noodles than anywhere else in the world. Tapas style servings make it easy to explore these new tastes and textures while also sampling old favourites. From Bun Bo Hue to Ray’s family’s very own Hu Tieu Sa Dec, regional recipes have finally made its way to London. A tradition of healthy, homegrown food breathes new life to an area just beneath the railroad tracks. Each mosaic of plates and drinks represents the very best the city has to offer.
Nothing beats a night out on the town while indulging in sophisticated Vietnamese flavours of Banh Bao Brothers. Join the action as a friendly crowd converges in one of London’s hippest districts. After a bite to eat and a few drinks, it becomes an ideal time to enjoy a refined district full of life. Don’t miss an opportunity to take it all in while exploring this distinct side of London. Take a walk through the tunnel to see art brought to life via swift sprays of a can. Hop on the train or take a riverboat cruise up the Thames or soak in a Waterloo Sunset before a world-class theatre production only a short distance away. Under the tracks, rests a one of a kind hotspot where visitors can always come to kick back.
Banh Bao Brothers is an urban oasis providing a breath of fresh air from the daily grind. Redefining urban space, the Vietnamese restaurant brings timeless recipes from beloved Madame Bay straight to the table. A love for food and grandma comes full circle as two brothers proudly serve the city authentic food from Vietnam. Much more than your average Pho spot, Banh Bao Brothers offers a range of dishes from one of the most celebrated cuisines in the world. A well-furnished environment embraces rich tradition with a modern spin. It is time to leave the average Pho haunt behind; a new generation of fresh and local Vietnamese food in London upon us. Join the Banh Bao Brothers for brunch and dinner to understand what Vietnamese food is truly about.
awesome food, great atmosphere, would 100% go back
Bao Brothers is a great oasis in crazy London. In the Leak St tunnel, it's a quiet and cool getaway. It smells amazing as soon as you walk in and the food does not disappoint. The staff were great and so friendly. Special shoutout to the summer rolls which are so fresh and delicious. Perfect in this hot summer, keen to go back for the pho in winter. Highly recommend!
The restaurant is in Leake St, which already attracts people for its graffiti gallery. Inside the restaurant looks underground but welcoming, the friendly staff is ready to explain the menu to you at any given time. The menu is online and it is not huge, but I think dishes are super (if you like the cuisine)! Ideal both for a date as well for bringing a larger group of friends. A Vietnamese gem in the heart of Southbank.
We came here after going to the vaults theatre show and it was a perfect way to end the evening. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were very warm and friendly. We went with their recommendations and it was the perfect ammount of food for us. We each had a soup and shared wings and the veggie croquettes. We also loved their cocktails! We had to start with the jade dragon drink everyone has bee posting and it looked cool and tasted amazing! We carried on for a few more drinks and their bar man whipped us up some classic which was also great. Booked in our next visit already for when my parents visit!
These guys were brialliant. We could see they were under staffed but can see they put a lot of effort to give everyone a great service which we got. We saw this online from a video from Secret london so coulsnt wait to get here. I loved the concwpt and the everything about the restaueant. We had the tater menu and it was amazing, maybe even too much food. We also Tried some cocktails whcih were great and the jade dragon kiss was amazing. I give these guys a lot of credit as they are trying something new and genuine and for somwone who has been to a lot of places in Vietnam i can tell you the flvours are authentic. Good luck guys you will be seeing me again soon!
Too expensive for the amount of food. Would expect the Bao to be half the price they were or be served 2 instead.
It's a cool setting in the leake st tunnel, the menu looks good, and the staff were welcoming creating a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately the food wasn't much to right home about. Veggie spring rolls were well filled and above average. The OG banh bao was a little dry inside but pretty tasty. The veggie noodle soup was extremely bland and a real disappointment at £11. I'd still be interested in trying some other items on the menu to give this place another shot, it's hard to judge on just 3 dishes.
Delicious food, Staff could be friendlier! Every time we had to call out to them for service, they never once approached our table. Have they worked as waiters before? Questionable! Loved the food!
Really delicious food and great staff, the only let down with the food was the dessert but I have to admit as far a Asian Cuisine goes desserts are not a strong point but everything else was brilliant. Just a couple of pointers. At times it took a really long time to get our drinks and food, we would get most of it in a reasonable amount of time but have to wait for the last dish. Same with the drinks. Our desserts were supposed to come with coconut cream but it had been omitted and when it finally came (we had almost finished) and it came in a little saucer and definitely not enough for the 2 desserts. Maybe get some small jugs to serve it in. A hook in the ladies toilet would be great so that you do not have to put your bag on the floor. To be honest these are probably teething problems for a very new restaurant and overall it was a great evening. We will definitely go again and have already recommended it to our friends.
Very happy with service and the jade dragon kiss cocktail was great!
Great food and good service in a fabulous venue
The staff were wonderfully attentive and the food was delicious. The atmosphere had a buzz without being too overbearing, it was easy to have a conversation with my friend over dinner.
A lovely meal in a cool setting near Waterloo Station. A hidden gem to bring your friends!
Amazing place will be returning
Excellent authentic Vietnamese Cuisine served with a smile amidst very trendy settings. The cocktails were a treat both visually and taste wise and highly recommended, while the food portions were very generous and mouth wateringly tasty. Five star all the way through from friendly prompt service, great ambience and absolutely delish dishes :) :)
We had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and the service was especially lovely!
Very tasty food but waiting times are too long especially considering how quiet the place was.
We had the best time at Banh Bao Brothers. The food was absolutely delicious and Ashley made sure we were very very well taken care of (he made our night). The taster meal deal was excellent value for money and the cocktails and wine were really really tasty. Genuinely can’t fault our experience at all. Will be recommending to all of my friends.
Great spot for a bite near Waterloo, will be coming back, hopefully soon!
Amazing, friendly staff. Great music playlist. Could do with wider menu - but appreciated authenticity and great flavours of EVERY dish. Would love to come back but hope the menu will offer new choices
Very good service in a great setting. Food was also very good - traditional Vietnamese with a modern twist.
The service was simply outstanding. Located in my favourite spot in London it was such a very nice discovery. I would go there again and again
Food and drinks were amazing, our waiter was really good fun and provided incredible service; my friends and I had such a good night. Thankyou and hopefully will visit again over the next year!
Service was great, but the food was lacking in flavour. We shared a vegetarian set menu for 2 that was £62 in total including starters a few mains and a drink , honestly would say it was not worth such a high price. Maybe if you ordered a meat set menu it may have been better value , but for veggies I wouldn't recommend!
I don't think there was one single bad point about this place, the service was exceptional and the atmosphere was great. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu dishes. Or just for drinks as the setting and music make you want to order more glasses ;)
