About Banh Bao Brothers
The spirit of Vietnam is alive and well in this chilled-out spot just beneath Waterloo Station. Tucked into the overhang of a renovated archway, Banh Bao Brothers delivers an authentic Vietnamese restaurant experience in modern digs. Share a plate, have a laugh, and allow your taste buds to transport you to another side of the world.
The heart of Vietnam beats stronger than ever in Banh Bao Brothers as traditional food intertwines with modern appeal. More than just a Pho Joint, our restaurant and bar begins a new age of authentic Vietnamese cuisine in the United Kingdom. Well-composed plates brimming with style make-up every bite as friends debate which item to dive into next.
The Leake Street Arches serve as home to urban art, dining and entertainment. Repurposed brick-laden archways off historic streets add charm and function to the entire neighbourhood. Where creativity and community collide, the growing area provides a quintessential urban experience. The first restaurant to open in the tunnel, Banh Bao Brothers continues to lead a culinary rebirth in a legendary spot.
The welcoming neon hue of the “Jade Dragon Bar” is irresistible to a friendly clientele. A Vietnamese-inspired cocktail menu puts a modern spin upon old world charm. Punchy flavours and complex layers create a potent mix that is sure to make a splash.
Brunch and dinner menus feature a range of shared plates alongside larger servings for the Hangry. bao combinations are available throughout the day.
Unfortunately, one of the few meat-free dishes on the menu (fried tofu) came without rice and was over ten pounds. I thought this was pretty unfair!
Unique location and vibe was nice. Service was slow and food looked nice but tasted average. Improvements I would recommend be more attentive on waiting on table and greeting customers at the door. For examples, when we arrived at the entrance we saw no host and had walk right into the restaurant to find waiting staff to be seated and we also had to wait for a while to order desserts after main course in the end gave up and asked for bill instead.
When we arrived at the time of our booking there was no one there to welcome us. There were a group of people sorting something to do with cameras blocking the doorway so we couldn’t easily get in. We waited at the door for 5 minutes to see if anyone came over to us and eventually nobody did. We ended up squeezing through and letting ourselves in and when we got down to the bar there were a number of people there who completely blanked us. In the end I said that I had a booking and was taken to a table. Service was mostly ok but some items were missing and we had to remind them after 25 minutes. A lot of people came in to look for a seat and all staff ignored them. Most of them left because they were being seated. Food was great but service really needs work.
was not a crowded evening but the fellow serving us missed a starter and a main we ordered. by the time i got my main, my wife's main was cold and while they took the two items off the check, we would have preferred if our orders were taken correctly and served on time. the staff are pleasant but the dining experience it was not.
My friend's drink was too sweet and was basically Sprite (with artificial sweeteners), she sent it back and we both had green tea (which was amazing). The portion of the papaya salad was too small to be a mains. Okra was very nice, summer rolls were quite dry. Might come back and try something else as the atmosphere is nice.
We arrived for lunch to an empty restaurant. No waiting staff. We seated ourselves and waited for service. And waited, and waited. The waiter eventually came over so we asked what the chefs sepcial was. He ddn’t know so went to ask the name back and just grunted ribs and walked away. We left.
The food and atmosphere were almost faultless. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the service - long wait to order, drinks forgotten and servers absent for long periods of the sitting. However they may have been understaffed the night we were there so I would be willing to give them another shot.
Great food, great atmosphere and excellent service, thanks guys Highly recommended
I enjoyed this so much I actually returned in the evening for dinner. The dinner menu seemed much more vegetarian friendly and had a better selection. Summer rolls weren't available during the day. Staff were lovely - food was yum and I've recommended the restaurant place to loads of people already. My only upset was that it seemed to take ages to get the bill and pay but we took matters into our own hands at the till. Love the location and decor and all the cute anime characters - would love to buy one of your coffee filters/merch! Thanks!
The staff made our evening; they were really enthusiastic about the menu options and drinks as well as super friendly. The service was amazing! The food was great and the atmosphere relaxed and quickly. Would definitely return.
Such a mixed opinion, it starts with pros such as: cool graffiti, trendy looking, yummy bao buns and delicious spring rolls. But then ruined by: very bland mains that quite frankly I would of been embarrassed to serve (plain noddles, with raw carrot and cucumber on the side with bbq pork - no flavour), disappointing cocktails that are well under par compared to those you'd expect in a cocktail bar but for the same price and quite a dry/rude/slack feel about the place and service.
Didn’t appreciate the compulsory tip. Should be discretionary
Great attentive service, atmosphere and food
A really cool spot. It is quite a refreshing place to go if you love vietnamese food but honestly bored of the normal places that are the same. Food is really good and cocktails too, highly recommend
W had a great meal. Both the food and the service were spot on David
A hidden gem. Simple design, funky location. Very friendly staff. Good food. Great place to go and relax.
Great service, easy to book, nice quiet restaurant when we were there so good for catching up with friends
Great food, atmosphere and we'll be back
Great gluten free options, amazing atmosphere and decor, really good value for money- overall a great experience!
Great food in a funky setting and lots more to go back and taste!
Went with 2 friends after work, all had a really good meal and a couple of drinks. Didn't break the bank at all.
Quite authentic banh bao, great atmosphere, quick service
Always struggle to find a casual quality restaurant in Waterloo - this fits the bill
