About Balloo House
Walking into Balloo House, you’ll immediately be struck by its atmosphere of ease, comfort and conviviality, due in part to good company, sturdy stone walls and time–worn flagstones. If the weather is inclement, with a sharp wind blowing off nearby Strangford Lough, you can warm your essentials on the old range, a remnant of Balloo’s farming days. Other parts can be warmed by the fine selection of spirits, wines and beers on offer at this colourful watering hole. And if you didn’t have an appetite beforehand, a perusal of the sumptuous bistro menu is sure to induce one.
Our first visit in a long time and we really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and friendly staff. Will be back.
Fabulous food & staff were very attentive & helpful with menu choices Restaurant was very busy so took a while for drinks but overall a great experience as always & will be repeated soon
Balloo House is amazing Xmas decorations beautiful Food excellent Staff and service fantastic A very enjoyable evening and will return soon! Thank you so much Merry Xmas
We had a most enjoyable meal with friends and have never been disappointed at Balloon !We could not stay for the music as we live quite a distance from Balloo but the music was great too
Delicious food and lovely relaxed atmosphere with great service and friendly staff.
After seeing about Balloo house on social media as a top 10 places to eat in Northern Ireland, I decided to make the 40min trip up from Newtownabbey for my partners birthday. I have to say we were disappointed with the 3 courses in general and especially the very average and generic style “Christmas” turkey dinner we received. It Was certainly not on par with the other restaurants on the list that we have been working our way through.
Food was awful. Turkey was rock hard and therefore completely uneaten. Yorkshire pudding with beef was also rock hard. Service was horrendous from start to finish. Was really let down by the whole experience. It was a first and definitely a last!
Fantastic meal as always great food and service.
Our group of 7 were really well looked after; it was a busy enough Sunday and staff were clearly experienced and efficient. My son has a dairy allergy and our waiter made ordering easy, with an allergy card to sign. Food was really good, high standard and we could not fault it. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble and we felt very looked after but in a hands off kind of way-my favourite way! The only issue we had was that there was no Chablis. Thanks and we will return soon.
Top class ,food and service very high standard.
Outstanding food, service and atmosphere.
Very poor service, sides were forgotten and had to be requested a few times, a drink was ordered during the meal and never appeared. Very disappointed.
Come every year and the service is always great.
Our favourite eatery. Unfortunately we now live in NE Scotland and miss Balloo badly.
Lovely atmosphere for Sunday lunch.
We were a party of 2 and had an absolutely fantastic evening for my sisters 30th birthday. Vanessa had helped me with my allergies that I had alerted her to in advance. I was provided with a menu that was marked with what I could and could not eat. This was so very helpful and made me feel at ease from the start. It took all of the stress out of the evening as it can often be difficult with multiple allergies. I appreciated this very much. The food on the evening was outstanding and we thought the soup was the best we’d ever had! The service was great and we couldn’t fault our evening. We had a great time and a huge thank you to the staff for making it easy for us even with my allergies.
We had a lovely meal. The atmosphere was great - relaxed and informal.
Had such a lovely Sunday lunch! Wonderful cosy atmosphere and delicious food. Would recommend visiting!
My starter was great, (seafood chowder), but the lamb gravy (main) was far too sweet and the mash very bad. I didn't go for the dessert to avoid disappointment.
Fab as always
Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
As always, an excellent experience. Delicious food, attentive service without being overwhelming.
Realty nice Sunday lunch, lovely surroundings and excellent service. Slightly let down by our roasts potatoes being a bit on the cold side. However they were still delicious as was the rest of the meal.
Beautiful place, delicious food, great wine list, and staff who were absolutely faultless. We'll be back!
We were disappointed that the 5-10-5 menu only had 3 choices for each course, and so were upset when we were told on arrival that one of the 3 mains was unavailable- no explanation was given for this- it was early in the evening and the restaurant seemed very quiet. My wife asked if a substitute was an option for the mains that was unavailable and was answered with an abrupt ‘No’ by the waiter who turned away curtly, no even a word of apology or explation or even a ‘sorry’. Diners on other the neighbouring table were also discontented by the same issue. We had other issues with the service. We felt the service was unduly hasty as if we were being rushed through our meal even though there was no pressure on tables. We asked for a little pause after our mains before ordering desert. After a very short time we were asked again so the waiter said this time that he would wait for us to let him know when we were ready, but the a different waiter arrived to take our order. We were asked if we were having desert and coffee- I had to point out that I would prefer coffee after desert rather than with it. Despite my best efforts to slow the service to a comfortable pace we were still leaving the restaurant after 3 courses and coffee in just over one hour. The food was very good and certainly value for money on the 5-10-5 menu. I did reflect that it was a shame that the chef’s hard work had been undermined by the service issues. We did ask one of the waiters to mention our issues to the management. Would I go back? -Probably will try again at some stage but won’t be rushing back.
