About Balloo House Pub
Walking into Balloo House, you’ll immediately be struck by its atmosphere of ease, comfort and conviviality, due in part to good company, sturdy stone walls and time–worn flagstones. If the weather is inclement, with a sharp wind blowing off nearby Strangford Lough, you can warm your essentials on the old range, a remnant of Balloo’s farming days. Other parts can be warmed by the fine selection of spirits, wines and beers on offer at this colourful watering hole. And if you didn’t have an appetite beforehand, a perusal of the sumptuous bistro menu is sure to induce one.
Excellent usual service!
Excellent vegetarian/vegan menu and the food was just delicious. Also dog friendly and my two little yorkies were made to feel so welcome. Lovely place, great service and great value for money.
We had a lovely meal very relaxing.
Superb food upstairs and downstairs! Thank goodness to have such a fabulous Bib Gourmand on our doorstep! Well done to all the team. Well deserved!
Excellent as always
Service was great. You were very accommodating of us and our baby, thank you! :-) Food was top notch.
Staff were great with our 1 year old daughter, thank you.
Had an enjoyable evening. Looked after well by Vanessa.
Fab as always
This was our first visit to Balloo House, no greeting, I informed man we had a booking for 6pm, he nodded and moved on, we stood for a minute then chose a seat ourselves, he came back then and we said we were happy to sit were we were. Some minutes passed and two waiters later we got menus. It’s the first time in a restaurant that Either of us had real difficulty choosing something, didn’t want to play safe with either fish and chips or burgers, so went for beef cheek and venison sausages, and we were both disappointed, the meals weren’t hot, the looked bland, the mash was like thin purée, beef cheek was half fat which I couldn’t eat, two black carrots and two small strips of kale, the sausages were grainy and lacked flavour other than garlic, two mushrooms and a VERY greasy sauce which had actually separated on the plate, so my guess is these two meals had been cold and reheated, not very well. My partner had also asked for a portion of chips, which didn’t come with the meal and had to then ask for again minutes after we had started to eat. Upon reflection we should have informed someone of our disappointment in the meals and not eaten them. At no point though did anyone come back to the table to ask was everything satisfactory, something that you EXPECT to happen in a restaurant, I’ve been in small cafes and get asked if everything is ok! Not even when they came to take away plates did they ask, only if we wanted to see a desert menu, no thanks! NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE and will not be making a return visit!
First time at Balloo and really enjoyed the whole experience. Will definitely be back!
The most beautiful meal we’ve had in a long time- the Korean broccoli was life-changing!!!
Very enjoyable meal for a birthday, big group and all looked after very well.
Excellent service right from the easy booking online, meet and greet at the door to the table service. Food was wonderful in the bistro with a great selection available.
Our Sunday Lunch was second to none, excellent food, wine and service. We will be returning, often.
Fantastic experience, food was amazing, staff friendly, attentive and welcoming. Balloo House should be very proud of their staff. Looking forward to coming back :)
Atmosphere and service were very good. Had fish pie but this was too salty for me. Rest of party had same comments.
Had a lovely meal, service very good, can't wait to go back!!
Balloo house is amazing, the food is 5 star and great value for money, the staff are so nice and can’t do enough for you I will definitely be back
The food is fantastic - by far the best in the local area
Great food and nice menu - lots to choose from. Customer service is excellent - staff very friendly and helpful.
I have been a customer of Balloo House many times over the years and I have to say, my visit with my family for dinner was disappointing. I had previously order Chilli Squid as a starter as I remember it being a good, full bowl of crispy chilli squid that could be shared. This time I ordered the squid (slightly different name) as a starter and boy were we flabbergasted. On a plate arrived 4-5 pieces of ‘squid’ that to be honest was pretty tasteless and I think we got 1 or 2 pieces each and It was done and to add insult to injury I was charged £9! for this. I had the burger which was ok... my wife had the fish and chips which was nice to be fair and the best meal on the table was my sons burger and chips of the children’s menu! I would nearly order from the children’s menu myself given the quality of the food and price! Really good value. However.....Overall the squid 🦑 put a dampener on the whole thing.....would I return after that experience....Probably not to be honest. Advice to owners/management. Customers are your heart and sole, without them the business doesn’t exist. Go back to your old roots and serve good old wholesome tasty food with ‘DECENT PORTIONS’ and stop trying to rip of your customers by charging them £9 for virtually nothing! You can do better I know you can as I have experienced it previously. It used to be the case you wouldn’t have got a seat, when I was in there were 3 tables taken......should speak volumes....
We enjoyed Sunday lunch at Balloo House with a family part of five.
