Had to wait awhile for our food even though we were the only ones in there but there was 9 of us! It was worth the wait, delicious! Thankyou you Ballihoo
Really enjoyed the food, we were tempted with the dough puffs which the children loved better than dough balls from Pizza Express!
It is a really convenient restaurant with friendly staff. Service does take a while and choice is rather limited though. We have eaten here a few times and the most recent visit the kids pizzas were TINY. Service was slow but they apologised since they were understaffed. They had run out of the wine my husband ordered but did not manage to search and discover whether there was any more for the entire length of our meal. They also told us they had run out of ketchup and spicy sauce. It turns out they did have ketchup just did not know where to look. But the spicy sauce they had a tiny bit left and my husband had to serve himself whilst they waited to return it back to the kitchen for their cooks! I would still recommend it but it would be great if service can somehow speed up.
Despite reviews that service was slow, we found it fine even though the restaurant was full. Our pizzas were delicious, the service was super friendly and efficient. We also had brunch here which was equally amenable. Thoroughly recommended.
24 of our immediate family from 74yrs to 2yrs old celebrated my daughters 21st birthday at Ballihoo while spending a weekend on the estate. I could not have asked for a better level of service. Jess was fantastic in understanding what we wanted from our very first (of many) emails. From food orders to table decorations & birthday cakes. The team made sure the meal went without a hitch. Everyone in a party had a fantastic evening but most of all our daughter, who will cherish the memories of the weekend forever. Thank you to Jess and the whole team at Ballihoo. You did yourselves proud 😊
Pleased to see service at the table has returned. Witnessed prospective customers turn away during the day when they saw the queue at the bar waiting to place orders. Feel the atmosphere could be improved in the evening with less light and some candles on the table. Big improvement experienced with the service yesterday. Definitely a step in the right direction.
Great convenient location, food choice was ok, salad was delicious but portions relatively small and service slow. 2 categories of food choice for children would be helpful, one for the tiny tots and one for older children, the menu does not cater for the under 5s. Staff were lovely, friendly and helpful but would benefit from some training. The restaurant has the potential to be great!
The staff were very helpful, efficient and pleasant. An excellent venue for family dining or just a drink and snack.
Hi there We were staying at the lower mill estate this weekend, we ate twice at Balihoo and both times were totally let down by the service. The food (when it arrived) was actually lovely. But lots of things not available with very little apology but the service was almost non existent. Seem to be lots of staff around but still could never get anyone's attention and all seemed like they wanted to be anywhere else but there. Also I think the ordering at The bar is a shame there seems to be staff standing around all the time yet you do everything yourself! Food however was of a high quality!
We were a party of 9. After a long wait we finally ordered our food and several opted for fish and chips. No fish, even though it was on the menu and no one had told us it was unavailable. Three opted for jerk chicken wrap. When they arrived, one contained NO chicken and two contained just one piece each of undercooked chicken. The roast chicken meal was awful with soft, non-crisp roast potatoes and over cooked vegetables. The redeeming feature was the Manageress, Jess, who did all she could to remedy the situation and offered alternatives but by that time our 8 month old twins had had enough and were very unsettled so we had to leave. Our family reunion lunch was wrecked.
The restaurant gets very busy so it is definitely worth booking ahead to avoid disappointment. A good selection of meals and a kids menu. Pizzas are expensive for what they are but do taste great. Overall slightly over-priced (the general store even more so) but you are in that kind of environment so it is to be expected. On the plus, the gin selection is great!
We weren't impressed to be honest and definitely won't go again. On arrival there was 6 staff near the till but no one acknowledged us. We were seated at our table for 3(2 adults and a baby) surrounded by 6 groups of 10-15 per table. We had to order at the bar whereas the group tables had table service. None of the beers my husband liked were in stock. Food came out quick enough but was more beefeater than ballihoo, steak was £20 and was tough, served with skinny fries. No one asked how I wanted it cooked but it came out medium, fine by me. Oh forgot to mention every high chair is incorrectly assembled. They're the wooden ones with a black lap strap and normally a black strap between the legs attached to a bar, well none of them are attached to the bar so our 8mo was fine with a tight lap strap but I wouldn't like to put a wriggly 18mo in it. Plates were cleared quick enough and we paid the bill (at the bar!) and left. I've nothing great to say really.
Food on the whole was nice. Service was slow to start, taking orders etc.but food came out quite quickly. Milkshakes were not good quality for the price( just with a milkshake syrup) you would expect some fruit in them for the price. Coffees were also very expensive and not great quality. An OK experience but not the quality for the price.
No great really, we eat there for lunch the next day and the food was horrible, we left 80% of it. 3 cheese & mushroom Pennines a coffee and a tea was £32!
Not sure why this restaurant is not table service with such a few tables? Service was slow on both occasions we visited. Once the food did arrive we had to wait for cutlery to be given to us which when we had already been waiting over 30 minutes for food was slightly annoying. Surely the cutlery should be bought over once you've placed your order? The meals were good but one of the burgers was raw in the middle ( refunded for the extra patty) then the desserts the sticky toffee pudding came without ice cream. Also with so many kids in the restaurant it would make sense to have a kids menu instead of the strange smaller portion options you do. The blonde lady serving was very helpful and apologised for the two errors.
Great food and service.
Hot chocolate a bit cool.
Enjoyed meal with family members convenient and better than expected
Really enjoyable evening, lovely atmosphere and food
Great family lunch out.
We booked for a party of 16 people for brunch on a Sunday morning. The service was excellent and all of the food came out at the same time which was really good. Staff were really helpful and polite. Portions could have been a little larger as some people were still hungry afterwards but maybe we are just big eaters! Thanks for a lovely morning!
Very friendly staff in a relaxed, atmosphere.
The ambiance is great, the decor great. The food was good, but the burger could have been better; more flavour and deeper. The roast chicken was nice but for the price it should have had chicken breast. The milkshakes were disappointing mad for £5 each they should have been made with ice-cream, rather than frothy milk. The service was slow but it was busy and the staff were very good. Overall it is good. I just think with some small touches to the menu it could be better.
The drinks were very expensive no beers on tap or soft drinks. The menu was limited and it was a bit frustrating that the only menu was on a blackboard above where we were seated so people were at the foot of our table throughout our meal. The staff were lovely though.
