With Parisian and New York influences, Balfes is an all-day dining brasserie and uptown bar in the heart of Dublin 2’s Creative Quarter. Located on Balfe Street, where Grafton Street and the Creative Quarter meet, Balfes features a 20 seater outdoor terrace, a zinc-covered bar and open kitchen and is open from 8am until late Monday to Friday and from 10am until late Saturday and Sunday.
The menu offers healthy breakfasts, leisurely lunches and dinner using the best of Irish seafood and quality meat, with all produce expertly sourced by our experienced chefs. Strong on Irish artisan ingredients including farmhouse cheese and house smoked salt, Balfes also has its own coffee blend, home-baked pastries, muffins and cakes, homemade preserves and chutneys and cold pressed juice, making it the perfect space for breakfast meetings with tempting treats.
Grilled steak, prawns and whole fish are roasted on a charcoal grill using grass-fed Irish beef, dry aged for 32 days, while fresh oysters, ceviche, seaweed cured Gravlax and Castletownbere crab make up the seafood offering. Fresh local produce goes into creating Balfes’ salads, weekend brunches, juices and cocktails.
Balfes caters for specific dietary requirements and offers plenty of gluten-free choices across the menu including gluten free omelettes, fish and chips, pancakes and offerings from the charcoal grill including the burger which can be served in a gluten free wrap. The menu also offers pilaf rice, a vegan rice option, and dairy free rice pudding.
Formerly Pitt Street, Balfe Street was renamed in honour of internationally celebrated composer, Michael William Balfe, who was born and spent his youth in a house on No. 10 Pitt Street. The musical tradition continues today, rebooted for the 21st century. Complimentary all-day WIFI makes Balfes the perfect place to work or meet.
Beautiful place for Sunday brunch
The food was amazing, great service! I wasn’t too keen on the cocktails but overall I was very happy with our evening at balfes.
Some of the wait staff were not fruendly
We have enjoyed my birthday dinner at Balfes very much! The staff took super good care of us and I was really enjoying the evening. Our waiter Giovanni was very professional and attentive, he recommended very good food choises and was very lovely man! Together with desert I have received "Happy Birthday" wishes and a candle! Was so sweet! Couldn't ask for more! The food was very delicious as well. Thank you for taking such a good care of us! Thank you!
We had our work Christmas party in Balfes. Food, wine, service and atmosphere were fabulous for such a busy period. Just exceptional! Already planning my bext visit. Thank you.
Great food & excellent service
I have dined in your restaurant many times, but I this occasion I felt our waiter was trying to rush us, we didn't feel very relaxed . Plus the toilets were in an disgustung condition, I brought this to the management's attention.
We arrived at 2.25. Food arrived at 3.30. Possibly can be explained by the fact it is so close to christmas and there were many parties of 6 or 8. Also we were 2 older ladies and were offered seats at a high table opposit bar which was obviously unsuitable. When we pointed this out we had to wait a few minutes for a lower table and were seated at 2.45.
Staff very attentive and helpful. The waiter surprised our four kids, when we asked for a pen he produced 3! Kids had only blank paper to make out of something to keep them occupied, but we didn't mind they had great time making paper planes! It was a lovely meal before we headed to see the Panto.
This is a greeat location for lunch, central to town and a buzzy atmosphere. Service is goo, food is good too but it's not cheap. But a lovely venue and a great location.
I cannot speak highly enough of our recent visit to Balfes. I have eaten here on a number of occasions and never been disappointed. On this visit I was there for lunch with some friends and we had the Thursday special which was delicious. We had a bottle of Pasquiers grenache noir -superb! Great service, great staff.
Always an enjoyable experience
I had the Oat Pancakes which were slightly burnt and not very well presented.
Excellent staff & atmosphere, but food was poor. Avocado on sourdough lacked any flavour (lime/chilli/salt etc) - and the ‘full breakfast’ with turkey rasher etc was quite tasteless. Overall, quite disappointing meal
For fab food and a sense of occasion, Balfes is best!
lovely staff in particular, Catherine
Took an hour for food to be served and when it was the burgers were over done. Disappointing as have never had this experience in Balfes
I ordered the vegetarian, so disappointed, it was inadequate.
Balfe’s is a super place to eat. The food, service and hospitality is second to none. There was an issue with our table when we arrived but the manager treated us to a complimentary drink and was so warm and friendly. Our waiter, Jeovanni couldn’t have been more helpful or attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he smiled the way through the service. He must have been exhausted on such a busy night but he pulled out all the stops. Balfes is lucky to have him on their team. Well done to all in Balfes on another amazing night there this week.
An extremely enjoyable meal and gorgeous atmosphere, very friendly waitress, amazing food, cannot wait to return!
Excellent food, great atmosphere and the staff were very friendly, would recommend.
Wonderful food atmosphere and service as always ! Thank you Balfes
