With Parisian and New York influences, Balfes is an all-day dining brasserie and uptown bar in the heart of Dublin 2’s Creative Quarter. Located on Balfe Street, where Grafton Street and the Creative Quarter meet, Balfes features a 20 seater outdoor terrace, a zinc-covered bar and open kitchen and is open from 8am until late Monday to Friday and from 10am until late Saturday and Sunday.
The menu offers healthy breakfasts, leisurely lunches and dinner using the best of Irish seafood and quality meat, with all produce expertly sourced by our experienced chefs. Strong on Irish artisan ingredients including farmhouse cheese and house smoked salt, Balfes also has its own coffee blend, home-baked pastries, muffins and cakes, homemade preserves and chutneys and cold pressed juice, making it the perfect space for breakfast meetings with tempting treats.
Grilled steak, prawns and whole fish are roasted on a charcoal grill using grass-fed Irish beef, dry aged for 32 days, while fresh oysters, ceviche, seaweed cured Gravlax and Castletownbere crab make up the seafood offering. Fresh local produce goes into creating Balfes’ salads, weekend brunches, juices and cocktails.
Balfes caters for specific dietary requirements and offers plenty of gluten-free choices across the menu including gluten free omelettes, fish and chips, pancakes and offerings from the charcoal grill including the burger which can be served in a gluten free wrap. The menu also offers pilaf rice, a vegan rice option, and dairy free rice pudding.
Formerly Pitt Street, Balfe Street was renamed in honour of internationally celebrated composer, Michael William Balfe, who was born and spent his youth in a house on No. 10 Pitt Street. The musical tradition continues today, rebooted for the 21st century. Complimentary all-day WIFI makes Balfes the perfect place to work or meet.
Great staff & amazing food
Great place to go for Brunch!
Great service, delicious food varied and healthy menu!
Excellent! Every time.
Food was excellent, great buzzy atmosphere and service was best I have seen in Dublin
Highly recommend Balfes to all. Great atmosphere and service. Food excellent and will definitely return.
First time ever in Balfes and it definitely won't be the last. Food was gorgeous, staff served with a smile and atmosphere was brilliant..
As ever, a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience with wonderful food and staff ...
Balfes is our favourite restaurant and we dine frequently, however it definitely let us down on this occasion. The service was mediocre, the food was below standard.
Service was slow and poor
Fabulous food in fabulous surroundings.
Service was a little lacking in parts. Our main waiter was good but we were seated a half hour before our table got water or was approached by waiter. Also 2 of our coffees were tepid so I asked waitress serving dessert for hot water - she made a face at me then said “ok” but never brought it! As a result if this we tipped lower than usual. Food was delicious though.
I've been here for brunch lots of times and have always been impressed but they step it up further for dinner! Service was excellent and menu had a great choice with all four of us happy with every course we got. They may advertise as a brassier but service and food is in a much higher league!
Staff very pleasant.
Would highly recommend !!!
Lovely piece of Turbot chef
The best brunch in Dublin. The dining room is always buzzing, and the staff are super friendly and efficient. Always a pleasure.
We were kept waiting 15 mins for our table. Then told we had to vacate the table by 7. We were then told by 6.50. Not our best experience in Balfes.
Very enjoyable evening, we both particularly liked our starters of prawns and the tuna, will be back again Thanks David & Maria
Every time I go I always feel rushed. When I feel bad for asking a server for something, you know something is wrong with the service because it shouldnt be that way. Order was rushed, and with the loud noise in the restaurant the server did nothing to come closer or confirm he got the order right. Due to the rush, I therefore had no time to ask for everything, which meant the server was being asked for a few things after the order was made. This did not please the server and the whole process felt like an ordeal. Certainly was not a service with a smile experience.
Excellent evening as always. Keep up the great work.
There was a cold draught, the only negative comment. My dining companions who were sitting center of room with backs to the window, therefore in line with the entrance to the toilets, each had to don cardigans to cope with the chill. But we all agreed it wouldn’t prevent us booking again. Great atmosphere, friendly service, excellent drink and delicious food.
Best Smashed Avo 👌
Met up with some friends for brunch that we haven't seen in a while. Good food, good service, good atmosphere.
