With Parisian and New York influences, Balfes is an all-day dining brasserie and uptown bar in the heart of Dublin 2’s Creative Quarter. Located on Balfe Street, where Grafton Street and the Creative Quarter meet, Balfes features a 20 seater outdoor terrace, a zinc-covered bar and open kitchen and is open from 8am until late Monday to Friday and from 10am until late Saturday and Sunday.
The menu offers healthy breakfasts, leisurely lunches and dinner using the best of Irish seafood and quality meat, with all produce expertly sourced by our experienced chefs. Strong on Irish artisan ingredients including farmhouse cheese and house smoked salt, Balfes also has its own coffee blend, home-baked pastries, muffins and cakes, homemade preserves and chutneys and cold pressed juice, making it the perfect space for breakfast meetings with tempting treats.
Grilled steak, prawns and whole fish are roasted on a charcoal grill using grass-fed Irish beef, dry aged for 32 days, while fresh oysters, ceviche, seaweed cured Gravlax and Castletownbere crab make up the seafood offering. Fresh local produce goes into creating Balfes’ salads, weekend brunches, juices and cocktails.
Balfes caters for specific dietary requirements and offers plenty of gluten-free choices across the menu including gluten free omelettes, fish and chips, pancakes and offerings from the charcoal grill including the burger which can be served in a gluten free wrap. The menu also offers pilaf rice, a vegan rice option, and dairy free rice pudding.
Formerly Pitt Street, Balfe Street was renamed in honour of internationally celebrated composer, Michael William Balfe, who was born and spent his youth in a house on No. 10 Pitt Street. The musical tradition continues today, rebooted for the 21st century. Complimentary all-day WIFI makes Balfes the perfect place to work or meet.
Excellent service - the wait staff was great. The food was lovely and it wasn't too loud so we could hear each other talk. Will definitely return and highly recommend.
We found the staff to be extremely welcoming and efficient. We explained that we had to leave at a certain time to go to the gaiety. The waitress ensured we got out on time without making us feel rushed. The food on the pre-theatre menu was absolutely amazing. We would defintely visit again.
The staff were so friendly and kind. It was my boyfriend's birthday and they decorated his dessert with a candle and a birthday message! We had a great time.
Super tasty, wholesome food and something for everyone. Our multi-generational, faddy, picky, and adventurous group all found just what they were looking for.
The food and service were excellent we were looked after by 2 lovely girls. Unfortunately we were seated beside a large very noisy group (1 lady in particular was extremely loud) this did take away from our experience.
Very lovely afternoon. Visit was to celebrate my granddaughters first birthday. We had the same experience in April when our other granddaughter was one. I brought my daughter to the west bury when she was a little girl ....now 23 but still our special place. Plan to visit again with my daughter, daughters in law and our precious granddaughters . Memories have begun ..... colette
Good service, meals well presented and attentive staff.
Excellent. We enjoyed lovely drinks at the bar first where the waiter was so tentative to our likes and suggested excellent cocktail choices. Beautiful dinner. Lovely staff.
We eat in Balfes quite a lot, however this is the third time that we have had an unsatisfactory meal. Mum and I both ordered the fish and chips and when it arrived the batter was very undercooked and the fish was really cold. However the chef cooked us fresh ones that were fine. Also we had to ask for a proper brandy glass. The waitresses did sing happy birthday for my Mum with her dessert, which was a lovely touch and much appreciated. However, we were disappointed and will probably not dine there in future. We will probably go to Wilde instead.
Fabulous food and service and given a great table that made having my young baby and Buggy in the restaurant really easy. Poke bowl really delicious will definitely be having again! Continues to be a go to place for me for both personal and business lunches.
Prices are a bit high if you compare it with other similar brunch restaurants. Portions are large
Balfes never fails to deliver on food and service and if you are lucky to be seated at table no 7, well then, you have the best seat in the house!
Thank you Balfes for a wonderful evening Saturday. A great choice for my 50th birthday celebration!
First time there- will be back!
Beautiful and really enjoyed it although the seafood bisque was way too salty despite the fact that I love salt and salty foods. Something to watch
Staff so friendly as always. They appear from nowhere. . So attentive

Lovely Evening in Balfes with fantastic service and wonderful food.
One of my favourite restaurants. I have ever been dissappointed with either the food or service. Highly recommend it for all occasions.
