Simply outstanding food, and the best restaurant I have been to in some time with the most memorable food experience. I eat out a lot in London, so this is truly a compliment. Particular mention for Digio, the gentleman who manned the bar on that day and gave us an overview of the menu upon arrival, excellent service and a real credit to the restaurant. Excellent food and good service but a bit disorganized, didn’t like the fact that they played some quite loud bar music, doesn’t suit that kind of a restaurant .

Congratulations. The transformation work has been a success. The setting is wonderful. Two small points: the background music is a little loud and secondly, we had to move around to avoid direct sunlight. However the service was excellent (Diogo, Joao and the team were very attentive and helpful). But the star was the food. Very exciting and tasty. Will definitely return for more!

Amazing to see all the effort put into every detail, brilliant design and quality! Extremly nice service minded staff. The food in the Bahr restaurant was truly delicious, great to be able to experience all this in an hotel. We will for sure come back!

Adorámos o jantar. Gostámos da carta com pratos muito bem confeccionados, apresentados e saborosos. Nos pratos de carne e peixe ambos estavam no ponto perfeito. Sobremesas fantásticas, muito equilibradas e bem apresentadas. Boa carta de Vinhos e Todo staff muito simpático, atento e profissional . Recomendo sem dúvida Vista maravilhosa do terraço.

Birthday Breakfast - the good, the bad & the ugly Good * A group of 8 friends visiting Lisbon for the first time to celebrate my 40th birthday so sent an enquiry to the hotel via their website to make a reservation for breakfast. * I was contacted by the F&B manager who was extremely helpful and made the reservation and confirmed by email and also via their internal reservation system. Bad * On Saturday 28th Sept we arrived at the hotel and I informed the ‘bell-man’ of our reservation. The gentleman looked at me and quite rudely said the hotel did not do reservations. The next 10 minutes was fraught with 3 employees openly discussing the ‘catastrophe’....very unprofessional and made me feel belittled and stupid in front of my friends. I had to show evidence of my reservation as they couldn’t understand what had happened. Good * Whilst the hotel staff decided what to do we were offered a complimentary drink in the cafe bar within the hotel. Fatima (the barista) was superb and she did her best to make us feel welcome. * Eventually we were offered a table on the roof top terrace, we had some confusion over the menu pricing options but Fatima clarified all this as her English was amazing! * Breakfast was wonderful, food tasty and the views amazing over the Tagus. * Our server Diogo was friendly and professional and presented me with a small cake to acknowledge my birthday - Thankyou :-) So in summary, mixed emotions about the Bairro Alto Hotel. Would I go back?....probably not as they initially made me feel belittled and embarrassed in front of my friends. If more of the staff took notice of Fatima’s & Diogo’s customer service skills this would of been a 5 star experience.

We absolutely loved the hotel. The service was fantastic. the staff were warm, friendly and helpful, and above all, professional. The rooms were beautiful and had been really well thought through - everytihng we could possibly need had been thought about and provided. The only slight issue was the complexity of all the buttons and switches to operate the curtains, lights and temperature. the temperature/heating/airconditioning panel particularly was a problem, as it did not dim at night so was an unwanted source of light in the room. The lifts will be a problem, as they are very small, and it is somewhat irritating to have to go up and down and between lifts to get from the roof terrace to the restaurant and the rooms. The lifts are way too small. The restaurant was beautiful and the roof terrace spectacular. There still appear to be some teething problems with providing drinks etc on the terrace, though the staff were really good and attentive. While we are used to sophisticated dining experiences, we feel strongly that good ingredients should shine and taste should not be sacrificed to style. The restaurant menu is a major problem, it is a real shame that in a region with such spectacular produce and such a wonderful culinary culture, that this has been sacrificed on the alter of fashionable food. The dishes seemed gratuitously complicated, and the food combinations deliberately weird. The choice of dishes was also not balanced. There was nothing on the menu appropriate for children or anyone wanting something lighter or simpler. The ingredients did not sing as they should have. There was an overuse of garlic and salt. The food was not as enjoyable to eat as it should have been - there was a lack of authenticity. There was a triumph of spectacle over satisfaction. It was not a seasonal menu and did not showcase local produce either, either which was a shame as it is truly wonderful. The coffee was undrinkable and we were still charged for this. The food was overpriced (particularly as the restaurant was not yet properly open, and in fact, we were almost the only hotel guests eating there, and begin charged for the privilege of eating experimental menu food - comping us some or part of the meal, in the circumstances, would have been a nice touch). The room service menu is also too fancy and again, not appropriate or balanced. It really does badly need to provide simple options for people to eat late at night or for children to eat. We will certainly come back to this gorgeous hotel, but will dine elsewhere.

Bairro Alto Hotel is a complex of four buildings dated from the 18th century, the restaurant and bars are located on the renewed part of the hotel and besides that we have instructions how to access these outlets. We understand that in the beginning it may be complex but usually our guests are used to it after one day stay. We took good note about your dissatisfaction in regarding the restaurant menu and your remarks were shared with our Chefs, who we are sure will consider them.
