Description brought to you by Manchester Confidential:
Passionate about Venetian small plates.
There is something about Salt House Bacaro that makes you want to spend all day and evening in there, talking with friends, laughing, whispering; draining your wallet on lots and lots of its food. And you won’t even care.
That’s not to say Salt House Bacaro is particularly expensive, but it is very addictive and temptation is everywhere. From Paddy Smith’s Red and Blue group, which already runs the hugely popular Salt House Tapas and Hanover Street Social, Bacaro is all about ciccheti, the Italian version of tapas: diminutive, and, as the saying (almost) goes, perfecto formed. The attention and passion is evident.
Spinach puree and pea shoots elevate goats cheese pearls into the heavens. Or try acorn-fed Iberico ham; Venetian, slow cooked duck ragout; a handful of pizzettes, and wonderful Stornoway black pudding with chicken livers in Marsala. Don’t miss the grilled king scallops in shells (£3.50 each), a perfect 10. Thirsty? Choose one of 10 different Camparis or a Bellini from a magnificent list.
"It is very clear that everyone involved is absolutely passionate about the food and how it is cooked and presented, along with obsessive interest in provenance." - Gordo
We had the most delicious food served by great people.
Excellent food and service, great atmosphere and value for money. Second visit and will keep returning

Grt service grt food !
I booked this table on behalf of my dad, for his & my mums anniversary! I made a comment when booking on line as it was a special occasion could they be looked after! Both my dad & mum had a 'beautiful' meal & were also presented with a glass of complementary fizz to celebrate. They both said how welcomed they felt, all staff were very attentive & the food was delicious! Thank you so much for making it that extra special for them!
Always a great meal and lovely atmosphere, thanks!
Excellent food, wine and friendly service with a smile
Great food and service, we will be back.
Food was really good and even though the restaurant was full it came really quickly
Food is delicious and the staff superb! The whole experience was second to none (including the singing waiter to celebrate my wife's Birthday). We will be back!
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food
Pleasant staff, very welcoming and helpful describing the various dishes
Amazing restaurant with fabulous food. The only downside is that the restaurants is quite cramped, not much room between tables
My fav tapas restaurant
We booked a lunchtime slot for our anniversary. We were sat quickly and given our pick of tables. Our drinks were quick and it was nice to be offered a flavourful draught beer different to the ones usually offered by tapas bars. The food we ordered was bought quickly and was really tasty! Ordering from the lunchtime set menu meant we got a bit better value for money than the main menu offered; an option further improved by the range of vege dishes offered for my wife. Would defo recommend and return! A great way to spend a couple of hours and leave with a full belly!
food excellent nice lively atmosphere
As always a great meal at Bacaro, atmosphere and service spot on
I booked this restaurant on the basis of an offer I had seen on Sugarvine, namely £12.50 for any 3 courses.I will say straight away I have no issue with the food here: everything my friends and I ordered was delicious. The reason I have given this restaurant a poor rating for service is because I booked this restaurant specifically because of the offer I found on Sugarvine.I rang to book, quoted Sugarvine as requested and was assured, when I asked, that yes, the offer was everyday until 5. So I have to wonder why on arrival we were given the lunch menu, which had a more limited choice, and were told it was 3 dishes from that menu for £13.95. I queried this with a member of staff, telling him I had been told when booking the Sugarvine offer was still on. He went away, came back, and said no, it was just the lunch menu deal. At this point I showed him the screenshot showing the offer. He laughed and told me I hadn't noticed the offer was for their other restaurant, Salthouse Tapas. At this point I gave up, even though it clearly says Salthouse Bacaro. So we stayed and 3 of us had the lunch menu, my other friend ordering from the main menu and paying full price. It was all lovely. However, the wine was not very well chilled and while we appreciate in a small plates restaurant the dishes come out as and when cooked, commonsense would suggest that a cold dish that doesn't need cooking (hummus and bread)ought to be brought out first, rather than right at the end when all the hot food has been eaten. To sum up, we enjoyed what we had, and had we been allowed the offer we thought we were getting we would have stayed longer, ordered more wine and had desserts, coffees and liqueurs, therefore spending more than we did on the offer we had to settle for. We decided they didn't deserve anymore of our custom and went on elsewhere. By the way, I checked the morning after. The Sugarvine offer is still there...
Delicious food & friendly staff
