About Australasia

Description brought to you by Manchester Confidential:

As a recent Confidential review raves, ‘the theatre of the place, the approach of the staff and the craft of the food will make a special occasion feel special’ - and the sashimi served on a hand-thrown dish filled with ice chips and edible flowers is a marvellous place to start. Fine wines rolling right up into the £1000s and hint at the high flying regulars that Australasia attracts. The menu takes in Japanese, New Zealand and Indian influences. Shell coloured lanterns and soft fawn booths set a seductive scene, while highlights from the roving small plate selection include soft shell crab California rolls, smoked eel and cucumber pressed sushi and sweet potato slices with Teriyaki dressing. Pork belly and pineapple curry crafted to a genuine Thai recipe is as flawless as the trademark soufflés. The cloud-like mango soufflé comes with a glass pouring pot of mango ‘soup’ on the side. Genuine occasion stuff.

Review by Manchester Confidential's Mark Garner
The room itself is a real buzz. Walking down the stairs into the place, with the bar on the left and the restaurant on the right, it has the feel of a 1930’s movie set in Shanghai, a bit colonial and very sexy.
