About Auberge du Lac
The Brocket Hall Estate is home to two restaurants - Auberge du Lac and The Melbourne Club.
AUBERGE DU LAC
Housed in Brocket Hall’s former hunting lodge, Auberge du Lac enjoys a beautiful lakeside setting overlooking the stunning 543 acre country estate and the Hall itself.
Whether it is al fresco dining in summer at the water’s edge, or an intimate environment in the winter months, Auberge du Lac provides the right mood for every occasion. With a beautiful lounge, picturesque terrace and a host of tastefully decorated private dining rooms, capable of seating from 2 to 18 guests, the restaurant regularly caters for private dinners, ladies lunches, weddings, birthday parties and other celebrations.
THE MELBOURNE CLUB
At the heart of the Estate lies The Melbourne Club. The restaurant opens its door to the public for special events from Wine Dinners to Jazz Sunday Lunch. With views across the Broadwater Lake to Brocket Hall, The Melbourne Club is the perfect location to enjoy a drink on the terrace followed by lunch or dinner.
Absolutely fantastic. The drinks did let you down though. I did order a shandy and I thought £8 was very expensive. A kier royal was only half a glass and £14 was again over the top for half a glass. I also had a cup of tea and £5 was a bit over the top. It never ruined our visit as the food and service was great you just need to look at the cost for the drinks.
We had a great time! The sun came out for us on my partners first father’s day and it really is a very special setting on the terrace, looking onto the lake. We had a drink there before heading in for lunch and picked from the menu there before heading into the conservatory style restaurant- which we also really enjoyed. The atmosphere is smart but not stuffy and the service was excellent. Our waiter was particularly sweet with our 3 month old baby. Food was also excellent. We loved every minute and can’t wait to go again
Love the location, the views, the building, the service, the kitchen. My only reservation is the wine list. It is disproportionately pricey. Why? Exclusivity? Surely not that refined all round! £11 for a Prosecco - really? If that’s your buy in cost plus mark up you’ve been done as well as me!
The food was beautifully cooked but a little austere, the atmosphere was a little golf clubby ( I'm not a golf person), the service was very good as for value for money that is so subjective the location is brilliant but the prices are Michelin starred and while good the food is not quite there yet.
Fantastic evening from start to finish , could not fault the ambience, the service was impeccable , and not overbearing. Will certainly be back . Gem of a place.
Another delicious meal. Thank you
Amazing food as always. We were a group of six, so made our own atmosphere but my one criticism of Auberge is the lack of atmosphere.
Beautiful lunch in beautiful setting. Perfect venue to celebrate my 70th birthday.
The service was exceptional and very friendly and cheerful without ever crossing the line. We will be back.
We had the tasting menu. The menu itself was very safe, nothing particularly interesting or different. I found everything far too sweet and the scallop dish was seriously over-seasoned. Portions were very small indeed. I've had many tasting menus but we both left here still feeling hungry. The restaurant was clean, tidy and spacious, but was trapped in a 90s time warp. Service was excellent. The best part of the whole experience was the sourdough bread (which we had to ask for more of as we were so hungry).
Great Food Excellent Location Insufficient Staff! This has been our special restaurant for the last 19 years. We always celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and every other special occasion here. This is the second time during our time of visiting we have had to leave a negative review. This place has seen a few management changes over time. I can blame the food, location or the staff. The main problem during our visit was not enough staff when it got busy. We were booked for 12.30 lunch and everything was great until about 1.30 when the restaurant got busy. We had finished our starters and main course around that time and were given our desert menus. After waiting nearly 30mins of no one came to us. Eventually the lady taking the orders turned up to take our order. I told her that as they were not coping we would skip the deserts and asked for the bill. She definitely did not want to deal with an unsatisfied customer so she quickly brought the bill. No attempt was made to resolve any issues. Even had the cheek to leave the service charge. I paid the bill in full and we all left. What a shame as we will now need to find our special place somewhere else.
There was only one bottle of champagne at the restaurant and it was Veuve Cicquot which is my favourite but £140 per bottle is way over the top when I can get it under £40 at Waitrose!
We had our engagment party lunch at auberge du lac in the alcove area. The food was incredible- the staff so lovely and just the right balance between super helpful but not pushy. Ameila was just brilliant on the day helping us with any requests. The grounds are stunning too and perfect for a few pics and a little walk after lunch. The wine and other drinks were pricey compared to food, which I though reasonable for the exceptional quality and high end ingredients. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a meal in a stunning setting or a group meal.
I have always held Auberge du lac in the highest esteem, however last night on our anniversary dinner 6th June I was disappointed with the veal. It was quite chewy and a second was ordered but very similar. I did have a discounted bill however I was more interested that this feedback got back to the Chef. I did not receive any acknowledgement from the Chef in this regard and surprised at what is normally a very high standard that this this did not occur? I do eat in top restaurants and do have a discerning palette. I always give credit whern due but also give constructive feedback. If required. I pay more at this restaurants because I expect a high standard but felt this was let down last night..
Wonderful meal in a great environment. Thank you!
Had a great dinner at Auberge du Lac last Tuesday. It was a special Joseph Perrier Champagne Charity dinner. The food was superb and so was the champagne.
Just wonderful, thank you
Thank you for making it a wonderful evening with great food, service and attention.
Beautiful location and lovely food
Very good indeed, food great, starters quite small but well done, drinks expensive
Please see our review on trip advisor . This is an amazing fine Dining Experience.
We had the tasting menu which was really excellent apart from the meat dish which was extremely disappointing. The meat was tasteless and overcooked due to the unfortunate method of a water bath preparation which, although rendering meat tender, robs it of taste. I like my beef blue/rare and this method precludes this. If I return, I would not have meat at your establishment while you use this method. Otherwise the food was faultless.
Superb lunch in beautiful surroundings. The service was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Highly recommended
It would be hard to fault anything. This was the best meal we have had at the Auberge and made for a most enjoyable occasion.
