About Auberge du Lac
The Brocket Hall Estate is home to two restaurants - Auberge du Lac and The Melbourne Club.
AUBERGE DU LAC
Housed in Brocket Hall’s former hunting lodge, Auberge du Lac enjoys a beautiful lakeside setting overlooking the stunning 543 acre country estate and the Hall itself.
Whether it is al fresco dining in summer at the water’s edge, or an intimate environment in the winter months, Auberge du Lac provides the right mood for every occasion. With a beautiful lounge, picturesque terrace and a host of tastefully decorated private dining rooms, capable of seating from 2 to 18 guests, the restaurant regularly caters for private dinners, ladies lunches, weddings, birthday parties and other celebrations.
THE MELBOURNE CLUB
At the heart of the Estate lies The Melbourne Club. The restaurant opens its door to the public for special events from Wine Dinners to Jazz Sunday Lunch. With views across the Broadwater Lake to Brocket Hall, The Melbourne Club is the perfect location to enjoy a drink on the terrace followed by lunch or dinner.
Wonderful tranquil setting, food and service - back to how it used to be. All just 26 miles from the frenetic madness of Central London.
We have visited this restaurant many times since we moved to the area 9 years ago. When it had a Michelin star it was amazing, then it went rapidly downhill and 2 years ago it looked like it was back on the up. This time the food was good, even though some of it was a little unimaginative and the portions were too small, but the service was appalling. The maitre d’ was incredibly brusque and unfriendly throughout. There was no offer to take our coats, which remained on the backs of our chairs throughout. None of the dishes was explained to us and we were made to feel we were inconveniencing the staff if we asked for anything. We were twice asked if we’d like wine before we’d even been shown the wine list, and when we did order wine we were left to pour it from the cooler ourselves. At the end of the evening there was no offer of a taxi, and when a taxi we’d ordered ourselves couldn’t get into the gates my husband had to go back inside and into the kitchen to ask someone to help. All of this would have been disappointing in a lower end restaurant, but in a restaurant charging £85 for a tasting menu we expected more. The food was, on the whole, pretty good with the veal and desserts being highlights. However the portions were very small, even for a tasting menu. Although they were tasty, the dishes were a bit predictable and showed little flair. We had been looking forward to the resurrection of this once great restaurant in a gorgeous setting but were left very disappointed.
Fabulous birthday meal with the family. Beautifully presented, very tasty and the staff were great. It was quiet, so lacked a bit of atmosphere but that’s not the restaurants fault. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and would highly recommend.
Beautiful setting and views whilst you enjoy a drink and dine. Welcoming hospitality, great service and the quality of food was excellent.
great food and lovely to be able to sit on the terrace in the sun. excellent service - attentive and informative.
Thank you Auberge du Lac for a wonderful anniversary lunch experience. The food and service are both outstanding. The atmosphere and views - marvelous! We will definitely be coming back.
My husband and I visited on 3rd July to celebrate our wedding anniversary, I returned on 12th September with three family members, and although the meal was delicious, I was disappointed that the table hote menu was the same, and as I'm returning again with a friend on Thursday I will be disappointed if the menu is the same again!!!
Although food was very good felt the ambience for this level of establishment was somewhat lacking. There seemed to be a general lack of direction/managment with no one obviously in control. The Staff uniforms were rather scruffy (in some cases stained) and looked as tired and as worn out as the furnishings. Generally feel the whole place could do with updating and refurbisment as its slowly lost over the years what used to make it special..
went on Ladies day , complimentary champagne and set meal , very tasty.
The atmosphere is just so stuffy and quiet. Hardly any smiles from the staff who all seem terrified. Good food but this kind of ambience is so dated.
A beautiful meal in lovely surroundings. Thank you so much for a special 40th birthday meal for.my husband
Up to expectations 😊
Lovely place for a special treat, calm relaxed unrushed atmosphere. AMAZING FOOD, great service - thank you
Great night will be coming again.
Idea I venue for a special occasion
Staff were excellent at changing my booking and catering for a couple of requests. All very polite and friendly and helpful. A credit to whoever mentors them.
This was our second visit and once again wonderful food, severed by friendly staff in a pleasant atmosphere
Really lovely. Will be coming back. Everything that we ate tasted fresh, innovative and just excellent. Their cheese board is the best we’ve ever had. Really impressed.
The venue is in stunning surroundings overlooking the lake and the dining room is very well presented. The staff are very attentive although they seem very solemn - a smile would be a nice addition to the service! There is no criticism but I feel a slightly more cheerful ambience would improve the occasion.
Excellent service and food
Thank you for making my wife’s birthday extra special, we both enjoyed the taster menu, every course was excellent. The staff were all extremely attentive and knowledgeable, we would both recommend Auberge du Lac. Thanks again to all of the team.
Fantastic food, fantastic service from the moment we arrived to leaving assisting my mother in law as she is disabled in and out of the restaurant. Will recommend to all.
Last minute decision to go for lunch on Saturday. Welcomed by Emma, and perfectly looked after by Emily and Katerina. Matt and the team cooked an delicious lunch and we particularly enjoyed the chicken parfait starter. We are so lucky to have this restaurant on our doorstep and the team go out of their way to make it extra special.... thank you as always guys.
Food was nice. Wine list looked great but didn’t sample anything. Setting is lovely but shame guests can’t enjoy it a bit more or walk around grounds at all. Inside is a bit tired / corporate compared to the lovely external part of the building. Service was very attentive. Main feedback would be to change the naff piped music - was really off putting and not in keeping with the venue.
Wine quite expensive!
