About Ashdown Park Hotel - Anderida Restaurant
The restaurant’s reputation extends well beyond the local area of Forest Row or indeed the county of East Sussex, having been awarded two highly prestigious AA Rosettes, and as much attention has gone into the selection of the carefully chosen wine list where established European vineyards, local Sussex vineyards and emerging New World wineries are represented. Choose from a divine seasonal à la carte menu.
The room is stunning with high windows, framed by heavy drapes, looking out over the surrounding gardens. Beautifully light by day, and warm and cosy in evening candlelight, the ambiance manages to be both grand yet relaxing at the same time.
Excellent as always. My daughters wheat free afternoon tea was also very good. Shame about the weather but that’s the uk for you. Will book again later this year.
My sister and I really enjoyed our afternoon tea. The service was brilliant and catered very well to different dietary requirements. We will definitely be returning.
Ashdown Park Hotel was gorgeous and your staff are so lovely but sadly the weather was awful and we did not complain but my husbands food was stone cold! He had the steak and i had the Chicken Caesar salad which was really nice (it was supposed to be cold) so that was good. Hopefully we will get to come back when we can sit inside or outside if a lovely day. we were just very unlucky and could not wait to leave as it was blowing a gale on Saturday sadly. Perhaps you could put some extra sides up so people are not so cold and not sure what else I can say really. Best wishes Christine Ashley
We were not offered any extra tea , coffee with our afternoon tea so we had to try and get someone's attention and there was no asking if everything was ok .
The service was very good but the ambience lacked character or individuality. We came for an afternoon tea and while it was delicious, we were freezing cold before they offered us blankets and the environment was pretty sterile. I was very disappointed by the spa, which felt like an office block, with tiny, cold treatment rooms and a very disappointing massage. The relaxation room was cold too and there was no music or tea offered. Very strange and certainly not up to scratch.
Our lunch visit was on a very cold day. We made use of several blankets that were available, however, heaters may have made a significant difference, noting the outdoors nature of the dining. Likewise, side panels to shield from the wind and allow the heat from heaters to be retained. A greeting from the Manager, once seated, would have been appreciated in an establishment of this character, though the service was excellent.
It could be so good. But..... - we had to wait 30 mins even though we had ordered it for a specific time - no napkins - 1/4 of a tiny pot of cream per half scone - small amount of sandwiches (x4 fingers minus crusts) - 1 tea bag per person - 1 cup of tea per person - no sugar - had to carry basket horizontally because of the way it was loaded. Not ideal if you are going for a stroll - no help or map re: where to go
We had a wonderful afternoon tea. The setup was even better than we could have hoped and the quality of the cakes was absolutely outstanding. Just one piece of constructive criticism - please print out the details of the teas you offer as well, its nice to be able to read about them as you choose. Please keep the setup all through the summer - we'd come back and eat outside like that even when you're open inside!
Beautiful setting for alfresco afternoon tea. Superb service without someone constantly asking if everything was ok. This was my 3rd time at the Ashdown Park Hotel. Will certainly be back for a fourth and maybe even a spa !
The atmosphere score is low simply because it was chilly. There was nothing you could have done about it but we look forward to returning when the weather is nicer or when we are allowed to eat indoors again.
A very enjoyable al fresco Saturday lunch
Great afternoon sitting in the sun enjoying the Afresco Afternoom Teas
Great lunch, but the service wasn’t quite as flawless as last time we were there. But still better than most places. The view makes the cost worthwhile!
We had a fabulous time, stunning venue, very friendly and helpful staff, excellent food. Will be back.
I paid the bill shortly before leaving, but I didn't appreciate being challenged by the waiter if I had paid. When I assured him I had, his reply was ' Are you sure?' Not a very professional attitude. As we were seated on the end, some protection from the wind would have been appreciated.
It was delightful to return to Ashdown Park after more than a year away. We enjoyed a delicious lunch with friendly service, nothing is too much trouble. Already looking forward to our next visit with our family.
Beautiful outdoor setting and most enjoyable lunch, highly recommend a visit
Outdoor heaters would be great. Really enjoyed our meal.
A wonderful day excellent food & wine, service friendly warm and efficient Beautiful setting sitting outside was amazing Thank you for a beautiful day
A wonderful afternoon tea, thankyou! Cakes were amazingly delicious, you must have extremely talented bakers! Service was excellent - very friendly and polite staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our treat and hope to come again in the future.
Very pleasant lunch with family (2 adults + 1 infant). The al fresco lunch was set up outside so you are able to enjoy the grounds as well after the meal, which was very much appreciated by our infant daughter (who has lots of energy!!).
I visited Ashdown Park for an Alfresco Lunch with my wife on Thursday to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary, having previously enjoyed a very pleasant lunch indoors some 18 months ago. The reservation process was seamless, so we arrived full of optimism, although the weather was somewhat cold. After being offered a table next to the main entrance to the dining area which was somewhat exposed to the wind (which was changed without hesitation by the very polite staff), we were shown to a different table which was less exposed and given menus etc, from which we ordered a beer and a malt whisky, together with our menu choices and a Rathfinny wine. Our starters arrived before our pre-dinner drinks and my beer had morphed into a cider. It was changed and an apology received, no problem as mistakes can happen. We then were told that the selected wine was unavailable so another was chosen although our main courses arrived before our wine. Our desserts were good, starters and mains were acceptable, but nothing special, and the wine list pricing was more suited to fine dining indoors than suitable for outside lunches in April. We recognise that in choosing to dine alfresco in April, one is always a hostage to the weather, but we had expected that outdoor heaters would have been provided, or a little more protection from whatever the weather happened to be would have been available. As a result we somewhat rushed our meal and did not order coffee. We recognise that the alfresco dining 'experience' has only just got underway, but it seemed to us that whilst all the staff we came into contact with were doing their best, the lack of co-ordination between front of house, bar and kitchen made this a disappointing experience for us both, on what was a special day. Difficult conditions to operate under with the cold weather and outdoor seating only. Service was excellent nonetheless.
It was fantastic to be back with you - shame we had to bring blankets to wrap around ourselves! The staff all seemed on great form. We can't wait until you reopen fully. Please put childrens chicken goujons back on the menu :-)
We come every year and always enjoy our visits this one being just as memorable as others. The only comment I could be on the slight negative was we had to ask for the bill 3 times as their seemed to be so one confusion. The serving staff as always were lovely but I would suggest some olives or nibbles whilst waiting to enter g to he dining area. We will of course return as we as lasts look forward to our visit to Ashdown park hotel. Wishing you all the very best for 2021! Regards Hugh Hampton-Paton
