About Arts - 42 Call Lane
Arts is Leeds’ original independent restaurant.
One of the city’s favourite eateries, we have built a reputation of offering a high quality and interesting menu complimented by a carefully crafted wine list, beer selection and cocktail menu.
Located on the bustling Call Lane, our relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff have made it popular destination for both lunch and dinner. This atmosphere is complemented by regular 6-weekly exhibitions of artwork by up and coming local artists.
Our chefs work closely with local suppliers to source only the finest produce.
Flavours are bold, ingredients are fresh.
Our menu is seasonal and regularly updated; however, we make sure our signature dishes are permanent fixtures; including the popular Fish Plate on the lunch menu, our polenta chips and our legendary sticky toffee pudding.
In particular, we are renowned for our impressive vegetarian options that are both creative and flavoursome in equal measure.
Our Fixed Price Menu offers fantastic value and diners can enjoy two courses for just £16.00 and three for £20.00 all day Monday -
Thursday, and until 7pm on Fridays & Sundays.

Our ‘annual pilgrimage’ to Leeds fora Christmas shop & meet friends for lunch. We e been coming to Arts for a post shopping lunch every year & it’s perfect for us. Great food & service, good atmosphere but still able to hear yourself speak. A little oasis away from the hustle & bustle of the shopping area.
Great Sunday brunch with good friends.
The booking was an early work Christmas lunch. We all work the the emergency services and so attendance was always going to be a problem. As in this example as 20 were provisionally booked in. Issue 1 - A deposit of £10 per person was paid in advance which I wrongly assumed was just in case there was a no show and understandably the deposit would be lost. However, when one couldn’t make it, as they live in Birmingham and en-route heard their daughter had been taken to hospital. There was no mention of having to pay for their meal. The server said the kitchen had already prepared that food so he brought it up anyway. So naturally, some picked at it, as it seemed a bit wasteful. What was a bit strange is that cheese and biscuits came up, surely that wasn’t already prepared! How many minutes does it take to cut some cheese up and place some biscuits on a tea plate? So when the final bill came, our no show was included! Not only did he lose his deposit (acceptable), his food that remained largely untouched (by our standards) had to be paid for (not really acceptable). The bill was questioned and we were reminded of the cancellation policy (48 hours notice). Who reads the small print (lesson learned)?! Issue 2 - the pana cotta. I’ve been to many many restaurants and eaten lots of panna cotta, but the panna cotta served from the Christmas menu will live with me forever, it was absolutely disgusting. This might be harsh to say, but have a taste of it yourself. Take it off your Christmas menu asap, it hasn’t left me with good memories! The only way I could describe it is tasteless solidified stale washing up water. Who in their right mind would come up with almond milk panna cotta when a Panna cotta is an Italian dessert of sweetened cream thickened with gelatin, with a flavour added. Which is exactly what the almond was going to be, a flavour. My panna cotta partner did not touch hers after one small taste. No astute server spotted that and therefore no opportunity to make comments about it. There were many to make, let me tell you. Issue 3 - we do not live in America therefore we don’t expect a stealth extra few quid added to the bill for service. There was not a lot of interaction with the staff, they didn’t tell us about footing the bill for our no show and they didn’t notice how disgusted I was with the dish water disguised as a panna cotta.
A very good meal. Would have been outstanding had the main course been a little hotter.
Fantastic proper food and decent wine at a reasonable price in the centre of Leeds. We love the Arts.
Pleasant lunch in every respect.
We have tried a number of restaurants in Leeds over the years but always return to Arts. A family favourite!
I love Arts...great food and wine.
Great food, service and atmosphere as always - great to see the new ownership hasn't altered the menu too much. Will continue to be regular customers.
Brilliant Food and Service, thanks for a great evening, would definitely recommend
Always lovely food, fabulous service and we keep coming back :)
Great little cafe catering for all tastes, with vegan and vegetarian added to the mix. Staff are kind and considerate and I would highly recommend this little Yorkshire eatery for lunch or evening .
First time here and I will definitely be back! Lovely relaxed vibe and great food.
I have been a regular diner at Arts for many years and can honestly say it is fantastic. Consistently great food and service and total value for money. It’s the homely atmosphere that draws me back also and great for a woman who wants to dine alone. Thank you Arts! Keep doing what you are doing!
