Why dine at Arlingtons?
Excellent food in wonderful surroundings. Tastes to suit all palates. If you're not sure what you want our 'Sharing Plates' menu solves the problem. Order two or three plates and get a range of flavours and textures to excite the palate. Feeling a little hungrier, then add a plate or two as you go. Nicknamed 'British Tapas' our food is fresh and local but with influences from around the world.
Dine wherever you want in our Grade 2 Listed Building - the original Ipswich Museum - enjoy the informal atmosphere of the Cafe / Cocktail Bar or relax in wonderfully calm Palm Court. Alternatively, enjoy a romantic dinner for two in the Gallery. There's something for everyone at Arlingtons.
Also, if you are looking to host a business lunch, family birthday party or just want some privacy, our Darwin Room will suit you perfectly and is available to hire for your sole use. It will accommodate up to 14 people to provide an intimate and self-contained space for your event.
The small plates menu is interesting and the food delicious. We liked choosing several dishes and sharing them to give ourselves plenty of variety. Excellent service.
Delicious food Excellent service Good value Highly recommend
We booked a table for 4 for a pre theatre meal on a Wednesday so weren’t too surprised that we were the only people dining in this beautiful building. Low jazz music created a good atmosphere and the art on the walls added additional interest. The staff were very helpful and explained they had changed the menu that evening. We ordered a 3 course meal from their main menu at pre-theatre offer prices. We are quite discerning but weren’t disappointed by any course. Most had scallops with pea and mint purée and bacon lardons. The scallops were soft and not overcooked. We all followed this with calves liver onion gravy and mash. The gravy was delicious including orange peal and the liver again was soft and not overcooked. Dessert was rhubarb panne cotta and white chocolate cheesecake. Both were served with a delicious raspberry sorbet and coulis. All homemade. We were charged £23 per head which I think is excellent value. We will be back!
We had a lovely evening with our family celebrating 50 years of marriage. The food, the staff were excellent. The staff, being attentive but not intrusive.Well done Arlington. We will be back.
This is probably the best restaurant in town. I've been to most of them over the years and this one is very special and head and shoulders above 99% of the others.
Met with some family i haven't seen in forty years and wanted to take them to lunch and thought of Arlingtons straight away with its lovely atmosphere polite staff and mostly for its small plate menu which i thought would be something different to offer my party then a regular lunch menu of run of the mill dining you get everywhere else which i think they all enjoyed and tried a little of something they hadnt had before.
Excellent Pre Theatre meal prior to matinee at the Wolsey.
We were the only customers booked in pre theatre but the whole event was superb. Excellent food and service (as always). Thank you.
Beautiful building, incredible food, great value for money! We really enjoyed our evening here, on our we out we had a look around the building and ended up having a fantastic conversation with the owners, their passion for the food and service is really incredible to see. Absolutely recommend eating here!
Great food excellent service
The only reason I only gave 3 stars to atmosphere is that we ate on a Thursday evening at 5 pm and we were the only customers at that time. However, it was lovely to have the background music, the owner/waiter was very attentive and lovely to talk to so, unlike some restaurants where we have been the only customers, we had an enjoyable time and will certainly return.
The food and service were outstanding. It was my wife’s birthday and after a table left we had the dinning room to ourselves which made it all the more special. The afternoon tea is amazing value for money and is a nice twist on the norm with a nice selection of canapés replacing sandwiches
Very warm welcome by all staff, food was first class , good entertaining evenings events, will definitely be going back.
A Brilliant Restaurant and Venue with Great Entertainment We had heard some excellent feedback from friends that have visited Arlingtons since it was bought by new owners, Peter and Irina Gwizdala in October 2018, so decided to pay a visit there ourselves. We chose an evening when Arlingtons were staging music: a candlelight event hosted by Alton Wahlberg (https://www.altonwahlberg.com/alton-wahlberg-music) and showcasing local musician, Joe Keeley (https://www.joekeeleymusic.com/.) We were prompted to choose this particular event due to Joe having close links with our family. I rang the restaurant a few weeks before the event and managed to reserve a table. They were most helpful in doing this and, when I explained our connection with Joe, kindly arranged for us to have one right in front of the stage. This is the first time I have been to this venue for many years and was very impressed with the way it has been transformed. The ambience of the downstairs, where the event was held, was perfect for both dining and for such a musical event. We were also given a tour of the upstairs by the owner, Peter, later in the evening and were equally impressed by its ambience and the dining facilities there too. Originally opened as a museum during the reign of Queen Victoria, it is not only steeped in history but also has some very interesting architectural and design features that are well worth a viewing. As for the food, not only was it reasonably priced, it was of excellent quality. All diners present at our table thoroughly enjoyed their chosen meals. To round off a great experience, the music was superb. Alton Wahlberg comperes these candlelight sessions and does to to promote local talent. Alton commenced the musical part of the evening by performing acoustic renditions of his own compositions, with a cover thrown in for good measure. He then interviewed Joe Keeley, before Joe followed up with his own self-penned songs from his latest album, ‘Headstrong’. With the audience really appreciating Joe’s performance, he was persuaded to play two encores, including an excellent cover of Chuck Berry’s ‘Johnny B. Goode’. What impressed me about Arlingtons was that it wasn’t just ‘in it for the money’. Like with Alton, the owner’s eagerness to help local talent get noticed is really commendable. Not only does that include musicians, but there are a large number of paintings by local artists displayed around the venue, all of which are available to buy. Great to see a local Ipswich business supporting other local people in this way. This should be, rightly, applauded! All-in-all, a very enjoyable evening at Arlingtons, with Peter being a superb host. I have no doubt that we will return to this great establishment soon and have no hesitation, whatsoever, thoroughly recommend it to others.
loved the small plates choices excellent idea lots dishes to choose instead of having one main meal. Music was very good and we were able to enjoy our food and talk and listen 😀 We will definitely be back.
Arlingtons provided us with the perfect venue, food and service for our small, afternoon tea themed bridal shower. I cannot recommend them enough -outstanding service from start to finish.
Lovely sharing plate food enabling us to eat early and head of to theatre
My friend and I had such a lovely meal - the food and wine were absolutely delicious and Julia (hope I’ve spelt your name correctly!) was a complete delight, really attentive and wonderful to talk to. We will definitely be back!
The place was very busy but service was attentive and professional. Food was incredibly good and cheap for the standard.
Lovely meal and excellent service. The food was delicious!!
A great breakfast experience!
It was quiet, but the food and service was excellent! Will definitely be back
A little slow on initial service. Drinks order not taken for 20 mins. Otherwise food excellent. Would eat there again.
Really nice staff, friendly welcome. Food was amazing. Very busy but service was quick. Had the small plates and a sandwich. Sandwich took a little longer but was still good. Definitely be back to try their dinner menu.
