We came for the children’s entertainment on Sunday. My daughter loved it and the face painting was also a lovely touch. The food however could be improved. I had the chicken burger which was so dry and tasteless. He chips were over cooked. My daughter enjoyed her pizza and the children’s portions are excellent value for money. We will be back however as the entertainment is brilliant!
Honey Chilli chicken seemed to have changed slightly which was a bit dissapointing but still nice-the main focus on all branding seems to be Antler, which is now overshadowing fat budda, although the Antler Menu is awful so hopefully fat budda will still remain as popular. Service was good and the girls friendly:)
Been twice to fat buddha in the last three months and even though it was quiet on both occasions the service was appalling. Drinks arrived after our food was served which is a big no no in my book. Couldn't get a waitress to get us a spoon to eat our dessert so literally sat there unable to eat it for 10 minutes. Second round of drinks arrived late as well. It really let's the restaurant down.
The food in general was really bad (the fritters starter was the exception), the service started great but then became really poor.
We came as part of restaurant week, first time visiting and we thought restaurant week was in place so customers could get an excellent impression of the restaurant and be encouraged to return but our visit was very disappointing: - ham fritters - advertised leading to believe there would be more than 1 small fritter. Saw another table getting two of the same dish! - ordered a larger shandy didn’t arrive for half an hour and had to remind two members of staff when it did arrive was charged twice for it! - goulash- the food was warm not hot! - chicken snitchel- mushroom sauce (what mushroom sauce?) was only a drizzle - the service in general, no apologies for late service, taking away a drink that wasn’t finished, reaching across the table instead of walking around. - and finally when we asked for the bill it was wrong! Sent it back 3 times and it was still wrong give up in the end Paid and left!
We were so looking forward to the Antler experience and sadly were so disappointed from the beginning. They had no record of our reservation on arrival but we did get sat quickly. We seemed to be constantly waiting, waiting to order drinks, waiting to order food and waiting for the bill. On ordering my first drink I asked for the rhubarb gin and slim line which took 3 attempts as first I was told there was no slim tonic and then came back again to tell me there was none of the gin. One waitress was helpful in recommending some nice cocktails. We constantly had to look out for staff as they were not very attentive. They either were nowhere to be seen, chatting together or in a different area of the restaurant. On arrival my husbands beef goulash was warm at best. My schnitzel arrived without its sauce. In the end we went to the bar for the bill as after waiting ages for someone to ask for the bill, she had then clearly forgotten to bring it and there was no staff in sight apart from the barmen. The excuse of the bar man was that they were expecting a busy day the next day so were sorting out the cutlery...never mind the current customers...or the fact they hadn’t been attentive all night. On asking to speak to the manager we were told no. All in all a pretty disappointing experience.
Eating area right next to noisy bar area playing loud music. Food average but won’t be eating there again and wouldn’t recommend for eating. Might have a drink in the pleasant outside area but nothing more.
Music was too loud and we waited a while for someone to ask for the bill. Other than that it was an alright experience.
Service here absolutely atrocious. Waited an hour and a half between starters and main course, when main course finally arrived after being chased food was incredibly bog standard and looked like it had been thrown together. Will not be making another visit here and will not recommend to others.
Very disappointed, food was not as described on the menu and when staff were told they just laughed
Lush decor. Nowhere obvious to go for table reservation. Rude waitress acting like we were in the way though there was only two of us in the middle of a big open space not blocking anything. Super fast cocktail service and tasty but not worth the money. Stupidly long wait for starters. Singular fritter when menu states fritters. Not worth the wait. Pate okay but not worth the wait. Didn't receive cutlery and got a snotty response that someone was getting it for us as if that was obvious while we sat there with our food in front of us. Cancelled our mains as customers next to us had cold food and didn't want to wait to be disappointed again. Waiter argued with my wife about wait time even though he had came over and apologised for our wait without prompt earlier. First time I've ever left part way through. First time I've ever contemplated doing a runner. I've done the complete opposite of recommending this to my friends, family and colleagues.
welcomed and show to table. left for a bit too long before being asked about drinks order. left a second time a bit long before food order. meatball starter , disapointed with quality of meat. could not get anyones attention for a second drink so went to the bar myself. bockwurst main , was expecting a big chunky german sausage in a long bun , instead 2x hot dog and some toast arrived. toast totally pointless because you cant wrap it around hotdog. resturant week deal still totalled £48 2 starter 2 main 4 pints. ate at ORA tynemouth the week before similar price but better quality food.
Service was ok. Food was really bland. Glad we went in restaurant week and didn’t pay full price
I found my visit very disappointing as right from the beginning things weren’t right the paper sheet menu had stuck to the table as the surface was really sticky. The food was dry and tasted very bland the rice was burned and when the person I was with went to wash their hands the water failed and she ended up not being able to clean the soap of her hands pretty poor overall I expected more from my visit I don’t think I’ll being booking again.
I had an absolutely abysmal experience at Antler. It started off when a staff member claimed my reservation was non-existent and asked us to wait at the bar and order our drinks while another table (in a half empty restaurant on a Wednesday night) came available. Once we were seated on a dirty table (which the waiter insisted on cleaning while we were sat at it) no-one came to take our order until we had go up and ask a member of staff if we could order our food. After ordering, we were sat for 50 minutes waiting for our starter to arrive, without a single member of staff coming to check up on us, ask to top up our drinks or even coming to update us on the delay of our food. While we were waiting we watched the chaos unfolding at other tables around us, who seemed to be having a similar experience, some said that they had been waiting up to 2 hours for their food, without a single explanation or appology from the obviously untrained staff. Eventually we refused to wait any longer and paid for our drinks and left, on the way out noticing a reserved table set up with a notice saying “Reserved - Table of 2 for Ashley Billingham at 8pm” (this being my reservation, which I was told upon arrival, was ‘non-existent’. I’ll not be returning to the Antler restaurant/bar again, the staff clearly need training as none of them seem to be skilled or experienced enough to be working there, what a shame.
We came for my sisters birthday after hearing about all the hype of the new restaurant. We had booked a table which we eventually found upon arrival, there was no one to show us in at the door so we ordered at the bar to be then told it was actually table service. This unfortunately set the tone, they were extremely busy with very few staff- some were absolutely lovely and couldn’t apologise enough as well as appearing genuinely frustrated with the way service was. We waiting almost an hour for food (thank goodness we only ordered a main) the drinks were nice in between though and the surroundings cosy and comfortable. The food itself was ok, we had a shared plate which sounded nicer than it looked and all felt a bit deep fried and lacking excitement and flavour. We would go back to try it again, it was restaurant week so I imagine it was busier than usual but then staffing levels should’ve really been increaed. It’s a shame as this place really could be great with a few tweaks.
Decided to give this place a try because of Restaurant Week. We were underwhelmed: decent chicken escalope aside, the food was poor and the service hit and miss (slow to take order, slow to serve drinks, non existent after we'd got the bill and were ready to pay). When we asked why one of our party had been given regular fries rather than the paprika version listed on the menu, we were fobbed off with a blank look and "I think they're all just mixed together". If you don't know the answer to a customer's question, better to check with the kitchen rather than guess. I wanted to like this place, because the surroundings were comfortable and the menu offered something that you don't get elsewhere in Newcastle. But it was all just a bit half-hearted, and the virgin mojito was virtually undrinkable. Won't be going back.
was there for the restaurant week offer. Service was sullen and almost non existent We pretty much had to hunt out a server to get the bill. The food was alright but I personally found it very very wet as it was swimming in sauce.
The staff were good- my friend was late and they checked in on me while I waited. The food was really slow, tiny portions and not very nice, we ordered drinks that never came and had to ask for our plates to be taken away. Very disappointed.
We had restaurant week menu. Portions very generous. The meat in all the dishes we had was very tender and extremely tasty. The non-alcoholic cocktails were very strong but the iced water jug diluted them nicely.
Food was terrible
