All main courses were very salty, unbearable to eat. The rice was far too overdone and filled with overpowering burnt egg pieces. It's a shame as usually love the place. The Buddha cocktail is already 4.95 on the menu so shouldn't be inclued in a "deal" of the week for 2 for £10.
Your website is useless. I booked a table at what I thought was Fat Buddha but this wasn’t clear in the email I received confirming the booking. I called the restaurant and a member of staff confirmed it was with Fat Buddha. However, on arrival it transpired the booking was with Antler. It’s a terrible website, not at all clear
The staff were very friendly and the food was nice, however, there was absolutely no heating on at all, my mother had to wear her coat during the whole meal. We were seated right intop of 2 other couples which for some people may feel uncomfortable and unable to concentrate on the conversation due to being able to hear everyone else’s conversations that were sat right next to us. The dessert took quite a while to arrive however we left before it was delivered to our table. The Fat Buddha at Newcastle don’t offer student discounts on the set menu which I don’t find right as the Fat Buddha at Durham allow you to use your student discount on any menu. What I thought was going to be a lovely evening with lovely food turned out to be just ok. I would most defiantly recommend the Fat Buddha at Durham but would be very hesitant to recommend Newcastle’s eatery, the atmosphere and quality of good was just not to the normal Fat Buddha standard.
First visit for restaurant week but will be back.
Service was awful, staff had no idea what they were doing l, took over an hour for starters and then the plates were just sat there for another 40 minutes after we finished them. I had to ask 3 times for a drink. Nobody bothered so I had to get up and ask the manager to get me one. Then the main came out and it wasn’t up to par, baring in mind our table was at 20:30 and the mains were coming out at 22:20. I complained to the manager and he said they get it all the time and they are used to it. I said if I was him not one of the people working on the floor would still be here if i was managing the place. Very disappointed. Will never be going back or recommending to anyone.
So disappointed! Ate here for years always lovely food and cocktails with good service, last night we waited over an hour in between courses, food was cold 2 mains were sent back out of 4,very poor food, nothing like it used to be, waited 40 minutes for drinks, all round bad experience, would not return.
Booked a booth , got asked if I had booked , staff member took me to a table instead . Cold inside the building . Picked our food from menu to be told they didn't have 3 of the choices we made . After we made our choice waited approx 25 min for meal , it came and we were 2 items missing had to tell the staff this even though staff wrote this down whilst taking order. Food was very bland no flavour . Unpleasant experience , very overrated place to eat . Won't be back.
Absolutely terrible ... no prawns for any starter but had them for mains...?! Hardly any ingredients for the cocktails so couldn’t get the ones you wanted. Other little bits like that also. Had 1 drink and left! Very disappointing!!
Ran out of edamame beans, lobster and dumplings fairly early on on a Saturday night, which isn't really acceptable. Venue is very nice but quite cold at this time of year which makes it feel less welcoming.
Unfortunately we didn’t have a great time. The atmosphere wasn’t very good - tables very spaced out. The food was also a bit bland - not like our previous experiences at Fat Buddha NCL!
Fat Buddha used to be my favourite place but I was very disappointed last night. The best course was the desert. Starter and main weren’t very nice, the prawns have changed from what they used to be and so have the spring rolls. They used to be nicer so don’t know why they’ve changed them. My pad Thai main course was like a bowl of soup and I was still hungry after. My friends honey chicken looked like it was floating in juice too very watery. Staff were nice though. Won’t be going back
Starter was too salty to eat so wasted. Mains took 30 minutes to come out even though we were the only 3 people in the restaurant. Food wasn’t the best after the wait the chicken Katsu tasted as though it had been deep fried then left out to dry. Would not return
Very helpful and pleasant staff and very nice place, as a pensioner it's a shame about the stairs :)
Very very disappointed. Been to Fat Buddha last year it was lovely. So a real let down when i recently visited. Bought a Wowcher for my mam for xmas so this was her xmas treat. The waitress was lovely and very helpful. The food was not up to much at all. We waited 45 minutes for our soup. When it came it was just warm. First mouthful, i found a hair. Didnt eat anymore of it so both mine and my mams went to waste as my mam didnt like hers it wasnt like a normal chicken and sweetcorn soup. We paid extra for a mixed starter, chicken skewers were like rubber, spare ribs had no taste at all. Prawn toast was tasteless and on brown bread? And again the food was warm not hot as you would expect. For mains we ordered salt and chilli chicken, and sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice. Rice was very sticky and just warm to touch, the sweet and sour sauce was in a jelly like form and again realy lacked in taste. The chicken on both dishes had been cooked for far too long so was very very tough. We were in the restaurant for a good 2 hours and i had my 1 year old daughter with me too. There were no changing facilities i had to lie her on the bathroom floor to change her. No lift, so had to carry her buggy up and down the stairs. The restaurant was absolutly freezing so we all sat with our coats on throughout. As i say the waitress was lovely realy helpful and she took the extra starter that we ordered off our bill. Still felt very let down and a waste of £30. I had such high hopes as my previous visit was very diffrent the food was unfaultable. Waitress did say there had been a lot of changes and all new chefs. Shame because in my view its went right down hill and wasnt a very pleasant visit unfortunatly.
We had our annual staff Christmas Party on the 21st December 2018. All our staff have said it was the best party and night out they have had in a long time. The band and food were excellent. A special mention to Nick who looked after us. We will be coming back next year. Thank you.
Excellent food would defo come back!
Staff pleasant, drinks and atmosphere good, but food was awful! Will definitely go again but not to eat.
Visited yesterday for a ‘quick lunch’ no more than 10 people in the restaurant and it was 2 hours before we got our mains. Service was shocking considering it was not busy by any means. Food was good but we after finishing and sitting for 20 mins waiting to be cleared we eventually left our table and paid at the bar. Will not be returning I unfortuently.
This was a booking for my Birthday. The service was very slow considering how quiet it was with being January. We waited 15-20 mins for our drinks and had to keep prompting for them. The whole meal took just shy of 2 hours for 4 starters (which were tiny) and 4 mains. I could half understand if it’s busy but it wasn’t. We enjoyed the food but again portions were poor and service was slow and staff seemed inexperienced.
Staff polite and friendly when they eventually attended to our order. Food flavoursome, although clearly not cooked fresh to order, improvements required. We visited with a special deal, would have been disappointed if paying full price. Overall, staff appeared to lack management directed. Needs a shake up! Staff and chiefs should visit the Seaburn resturant, food and service way better. Will not attend Newcastle restaurant again.
This was the first time I had tried here and I had a great time, me and my partner felt the atmosphere was relaxed and staff where very polite, the food was well cooked and tasted gorgeous we would definitely go again
Pretty decent bar but food was terrible. A very poor attempt at bavarian/German/alpine style food which was dry, tasteless and not pleasant to eat.
Antler was severely disappointing, after encountering three members of staff there was only one who seemed interested in actually doing her job and was very helpful. The cocktails we were given were disgusting. The food was nice, unfortunately this did not make up for the bad experience. Will not be returning or recommending to a friend.
Great staff. Very quiet early evening when we visited. Will be back again.
