At Amisfield you will see dishes that represent a small group of fisherman, hunters, gatherers and farmers we choose to work with. We choose these partners in our menu for the quality they offer as well as their commitment to sustainability and ethical farming practices. We only use New Zealand ingredients and where we can they are sourced within a range of 250km from the restaurant.
Enjoyed the tasting menu & wine party. Service was welcoming & attentive. A unique dining experience and the second time that I have enjoyed your restaurant.
My husband and I (who live in CHC) had a dinner booking last Saturday (21 March) which we made back in February to celebrate a milestone wedding anniversary. We received a booking confirmation email advising that the dinner service was a 9 course degustation at a price of $170pp with an optional wine match at $70pp. We were very much looking forward to enjoying a special night at Amisfield. We arrived and were seated to be given a menu that was 8 courses at a price of $190pp with the wine match priced at $100pp (i.e. one less course for an increased cost of $50pp and the wine had increased in price by almost 50%). We queried the discrepancy with the pricing and number of courses and our waiter simply stated that the menu had changed several weeks ago and there was nothing he could do. He had an attitude of 'suck it up'. We asked to speak to his manager and in spite of us showing him the email from Amisfield that clearly stated the pricing he claimed that we would've been contacted to advise of the changes. We explained that we were not contacted (by phone nor email) so he went away and returned to reluctantly agree to charge us $170pp for the 8 course meal but he would not move on the price of the wine match. For us it wasn't so much about the money it was that we were made to feel cheap, inconvenient and rude because we queried why they couldn't honour what they had put in writing to us. The experience was so poorly handled that we knew we couldn't stay and enjoy our anniversary dinner as it had cast such a negative shadow over the evening. As we were leaving the manager came rushing up and tried to negotiate that he'd give us an extra course- it was too little too late. I would never expect such poor customer service at any time but given the current hospitality environment I would've thought that service would be paramount and businesses would not take their customers for granted. We left Amisfield and returned by taxi to Arrowtown where we had a fantastic meal at Aosta. The service was impeccable (very warm and friendly in comparison to the cold and clinical service we experienced at Amisfield) and the food outstanding. In the past we have dined at Amisfield with friends and family but after this terrible experience we will not be doing so in future.
We were late for our booked lunch but the staff still managed to squeeze us into a table. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was very relaxed and we all enjoyed the good weather and ambience. Highly recommended!
Incredible dining experience ! delicious food, knowledgeable and very attentive staff. I can't wait to eat here again.
Beautiful food and fantastic service. Highly recommend.
Another great meal. Only thing parts of our group didn't like was the quail with the head on. Once off they were ok with it. Service was fantastic too.
Extremely disappointed with the direction Amisfield appears to be going turning into just another one of those expensive restaurants. It used to be a special place to go with a menu that surprised and delighted and for decent value. However slowly but surely the price is being jacked up and the surprise and delight is being removed. The a la carte contained no surprises and when you are relying on eating bread to feel even slightly satiated you know you are in trouble. So many things removed - only basic butter offered with the bread, no more macarons to finish with, no surprising or delightful appetizers, no pairing option and you now have to pay $160 in order to get less than what was offered the previous week for $115. I doubt we will be back
A lovely experience with great food and service
Cannot fault lunch here in the most perfect of settings. Will definitely be back!
Great lunch at Amisfield! A beautiful sunny day with great wine, food and awesome service from Maggie and Chef Vaughan 😀
Special thanks to Maggie our host. She was outstanding. Food and Wine was world class
An exceptional experience - all wine varieties were beautiful too :) we also lucked out with amazing weather so al fresco dining was an unexpected treat!
Little bit on the expensive side for a lunch but everything in Queenstown is expensive! Beautiful food, excellent service and wow scenery!
Your website highlights; 1. Views Since we arrived for dinner the sun was setting but there are only a few tables outside or in, which provide the views. We considered eating outside but since there are no heaters of fires it was too cold, even with the offer of blankets. (Experience - Nil) 2. Food Art and gastronomic revelation. Some of the artistic inspiration was Damien Hirst, for example the kanga pirau and the venison and did not encourage the appetite. Others were very contrived and very unnecessary, if the taste had met expectations. Unfortunately, it seemed like the food had been prepared possibly to complement the 'wine match', instead of the reverse; it was all heavily seasoned, especially with salt. We mentioned this to the serving staff, who agreed but pointed out that "the chef thinks he knows better". We believe there is a place for food in art and vice versa, but it must be sympathetic to the nature and flavour of the components. Not just pure theatrics; presenting a relatively small portion of eel within the smoking skeleton of the animal, or a piece of venison carved while stuck on the side of an antler. The only thing to appreciate in that was the culinary skill required to cut the meat at such an awkward angle. In short apart from the eel there was nothing to warrant the word 'revelation'. 3. Wine. We decided to make the selection of wines to complement the food. Unfortunately, the seasoning in most cases was overwhelming and we could not discover why these are 'renowned' wines. Overall, our experience was disappointing. We did not see the views, we did not enjoy the food or the wines and combined with the exuberant noises from the kitchens it was not a relaxing evening.
The food and wine were amazing. Especially the combinations of food and wine with the sommeliers explanations. As we were the last table towards to the kitchen door the evening would of been better if it had been less busy and noisy due to all the staff passing our table all the time.
Hi it would be great to have some intermediate kids option for the tasting menu when you have them so that the child can eat something with each course as well rather than having only 2 courses
We loved our lunch, beautiful food and delicious wines, fantastic staff - thank you
Delicious food, the Irish hostess was fantastic! Great use of New Zealand produce.
Food was very tasty and presentation was very impressive. The server, Laurent is extremely friendly and helpful. We all had a wonderful time at your restaurant. Thanks a lot for it.
I haven’t been to Amisfield in over 15 years. We came for our 10 year wedding anniversary and I expected the food to be amazing but it was just fancy and a little dissapointing. The ceviche and Paua were delicious but everything else was not not that great in our opinion. The eel dish didn’t have very nice textures and the duck was a bit chewy and had a funny flavour. Portion sizes were rediculously small. Our Italian waiter wasn’t very warm on arrival, he did chat a little when we asked where he was from. My cocktail was taken before I’d finished it completely. The waiters are very good at explaining what each dish is about but are not very engaging. Often walk away straight after they’ve spoken. The soufflé was nice but not filling. The staff uniforms looked practical and cool.
One of the ladies in the party was hard of hearing so the music which was great was too loud for her to be able to participate in our conversation. We did not ask for the music to be turned down. This was the only downside to the lunch
Excellent and innovative.presentation and taste were above all expectations.
We loved our lunch, the green booth was super comfy, and perfect size for us.. we has excellent service, the food exquisite as always. My favourite annual lunch!
