About Ambiente Goodramgate
Ambiente's York restaurant is situated just inside the city walls close to the Minster. Laid out over two floors, the restaurant specialises in Mediterranean inspired tapas dishes alongside a comprehensive range of sherries & wines.
Excellent food & friendly helpful staff
The food and especially the service was fantastic.
My husband and I had a lovely evening together, the food was fantastic and our waiter was very friendly and helpful, would definitely recommend dining there
Tasty food consistently. We eat here every time we visit York. Would recommend for a snack or a full blown meal.
Great food and fantastic staff. Thank you xx
Incredible food, lovely atmosphere and great service. Tapas takeaway is incredible but so nice to sit in for once.
Great food and wine! I’ll look forward to visiting again on the other side of lockdown
Lovely food and friendly staff! Felt very safe in the restaurant too!
Great waiter and Feb service.
Normally love coming to Ambiente and it is good to see that people are still continuing to support the restaurant. Unfortunately the concept of turning up and ordering food through an app on a phone where the picture and descriptions are too small for two to see at once rather detracted from the experience. It is not for me and I won't be returning to eat out until the covid restrictions are relaxed. it is simply neither relaxing nor enjoyable. Wish you well.
I love the idea of Ambiente however the execution has always been lacking. Third visit and again lacking. I won't mention the other visits here. I ordered the wheel of tapas all of which were pinxto style on bread covered in tomato and raw garlic. The very same tomato and raw garlic which came in my side of pan con tomate. I had Serrano, anchovies and manchego/membrillo none of which needed the overwhelming flavour of raw garlic. Even on the pan con tomate the two essential ingredients were not combined just a layer of garlic puree then tomatoes on top. The whole meal was killed by garlic. I love garlic but Jesus. I'm a chef with 15yrs experience and I've lived in Spain. I'm wondering whether the exec or the owner has actually tasted these dishes!? Who the duck pairs manchego, membrillo and a garlic puree?! Like honestly!? Subtle nutty and sweet then pow!! Garlic bomb. The service was great but duck me the food was below average. Most of my meal was bought in so I'm especially sad that the only part they did interact with properly
Food and service excellent. Staff very friendly.
Very good food and quick service
Best restaurant in York x thanks
The dishes were tasty but the choice much reduced due to COVID may be worth waiting to visit. We went to the smaller Goodramgate restaurant this time which lacks atmosphere, would recommend the larger venue which we have been to previously. A little disappointed with the overall experience but perhaps that was because we were expecting the same experience as pre COVID in the larger venue. A must order from the menu is the sausage in red wine, amazing!
Fantastic service, delicious food - especially the lamb tagine and chorizo! Yum! Well organized with the current situation. Felt very safe dining with you and will be back again!
Only called here for a drink. I loved the place & will be planning to return for a meal
A lovely space and decor with low lighting and a cosy feel But also feels special. Big bonus that our dog was welcomed. All food was amazing, a bit of a twist on the usual tapas and so tasty. Prices are higher than other tapas places but you can taste the difference!!
Fabulous place with absolutely amazing food and great atmosphere.
Our evening was perfect thank you. The complimentary Prosecco for our anniversary was such a nice touch. Everyone who served us were chatty and polite and really friendly. We will definitely recommend to friends and be back ourselves. Thanks so much!
Amazing food ,great service ,I would recommend 100%!!
As always, very good.
The food and service was excellent, what really spoilt it was having to order through the app making it very impersonal a bit like ordering a takeaway . A menu to look at instead of it being on the app would have given us more choice to order more.
Ambiente obviously translates to ambiance but I have to question whether the people who designed this outlet have actually ever been to Spain and seen the vibrant colours generally used particularly in the area that tapas originated. The ambiance and colours chosen for the decor would have been better suited to the Adams House, with drab dark paintwork throughout, hardly lifting the spirits to spend too much time there. A pity, as the food was actually very good even though the size of some of the portions weren't really tapas. For example we only had 2x small stuffed mushrooms like a proper tapa but a large plate of patatas bravas, not a tapa but a racciones. Can someone make up their mind as to what size the tapa portions should be or at least indicate on the menu so better choices could be made. Anybody who has been to a real tapas bar will also know how resonable they are so be charged £60 for 6 tapas and a couple of drinks for what in essence should be finger food is a bit on the steep side. (I admit the drinks were gins, but even so) The main positive from the evening was the staff who more than made up for the decor with their cheerfulness, we will not be rushing back though.
