About ALUCO Restaurant and Bar
Aluco's contemporary poolside dining restaurant. A celebration of the tropics, its produce, culture and cuisine. The perfect location for lunchtime dining with your choice of poolside views or our air conditioned restaurant. Finish your afternoon with a chilled cocktail served by our lagoon pool terrace. In the evening, Aluco is transformed into one of Port Douglas most spectacular venues, the new modern design coupled with our fire lit lagoon makes for a memorable experience. Our Executive Chef, Chad Woolford, and his team have refined the Aluco menu utilizing local and highly sought after ingredients from North Queensland.
We found the location very hard to find -it’s not clearly signposted on a very dark street (we were not staying at the Pullman). The food was excellent, though the location of our table took away from the atmosphere as we were close to the pool and it’s filter/overflow outlet, so the continuous sucking sound of water wasn’t great.
Not worth visiting. The tomato and peach salad was terrible as the whipped goats curd was more like a packet of cream cheese, the peaches were tinned and over marinated, the tomatoes were normal supermarket tomatoes. The Greek salad had danish fetta in it and was basically chopped raw vegetables with no interest. The pork belly was ok but had nothing with it. The calamari was fine. The kids cheeseburger was good. We are staying at the resort and won’t eat here again.
Service was slow, food took an hour to come out.
Attentive service and well trained staff, excellent quality food, will definitely come back..
One word, incredible!!! This our second dinner while staying this wonderful Pulman resort and have to say that the starter, calamari, the main, pork belly and short rib followed by the lemon curd desert was perfect. Our party of four appreciated meeting the head chef Julian, what a legend. We will be back.
The food we had was delicious. The restaurant is very short staffed due to Covid restrictions and no backpackers. But that aside, the few staff that were serving, were lovely. I would definitely order the chicken and fig dish again.
The food and drinks were really lovely, and our gorgeous server/waitress was brilliant.
What an amazing meal. Staff are great and Food brilliant.
Staff really friendly and helpful apart from one younger male who has a real attitude. Food was terrible, sorry but we couldn't find anything good to say about it.
Overpriced, unclear menu, disorganised staff, small sizes. Disappointing.
We were unfortunately booked on the night of a wedding, which took the focus of food & beverage staff. The wedding was noisy and really marred the evening. Staff did their best but were very stretched & run off their feet. We ordered a beef rib in the bone that was served too cool. We were presented with the main course but no cutlery or plates were provided, so we couldn’t eat. We sent it back twice but weren’t charged for it.
Food is excellent and beautiful location. Great service.
We dinned for lunch and it was lovely by the pool. Services was okay, it seemed they were under staff, however the food was amazing.
Living locally we had lunch at Aluco for the first time on Saturday and really enjoyed it. We were given an outdoor poolside table and with the sun shining and cocktails in hand, it felt like we'd escaped to Hawaii for a couple of hours... the food, drinks, ambiance and service were all great and we'll definitely be back!
Ridiculously overpriced for a main meal. $56 for the fish! <$45 for other meals. The pricing doesn’t reflect the style of restaurant. Service was excellent. Food tasty.
Can’t comment on the food as we waited for 25 mins to be served or orders to be taken, without even a glass of water so we just left.
Staffs are not trained properly. Lots of mix-ups with the orders and delays.
Our experience at Aluco's wasn't a great one. It started when they took our drink order. My partner inquired if she could have skim milk with her bailey's, the person said she couldn't but, then proceeded to offer her an alternative, of Kahlua with skim milk. Possibly a language barrier issue there. However, I ordered a Pinot Noir (Red wine), and received a Pinot Gris or Grigio (white wine). We then ordered an entree of Calamari to share, which was very nice, but when they brought it out, they didn't give us any plates to put it on. For our main course we ordered a 450gm Angus Beef on the bone for two, in a Tagine (approx $90). When it arrived, the Tagine contained 8 maybe 9 strips of meat, one of those as part of the bone, and 4 small, thinly sliced pieces of sweet potato. The meat was very well cooked, it's just a shame there wasn't a lot of it for the price we paid. Speaking of paying, the person operating the eftpos machine, wasn't even sure how it worked. Overall not a great experience, definitely won't be recommending it to anyone, and definitely won't be going back.
The service was poor and disjointed, not one person looking after our table but random service where 3 staff would ask the same question then no service for a long time and we had to waive down a waiter to get another drink. Food was actually okay but servings didn’t need to be so large. Would be god to reduce the size and the cost. Menu was okay but a little odd for a resorts only restaurant. The whole resort being a bit strange with a lot of rooms privately owned and leased and the location being quite isolated there isn’t any choice really on where to eat. Aluca could definitely be better. But if your hungry and have no choice it’s not horrible,
Loved the food and the whole experience. Will definitely be back....
Food and service below expected standard for a luxury hotel. Didn’t receive a drink menu when seated. Had to ask multiple times for table water. This is all at a time the restaurant had around 5-6 tables seated. Would not recommend the restaurant to a friend.
We were pleasantly surprised with the food and service, the ambience of the Pullman Port Douglas is always nice but the food has totally improved.New chefs or what but the menu is great and that you can have all meals in Tapas portions or main size is good. There was plenty of staff and the service we could not fault, the restaurant was full (co vid safe distancing of tables) A huge improvement all round from when we were last there 2/3 years ago. We come to Port quite regularily as we live Cairns/Clifton Beach and will be choosing Aluco lot more for evening dining.
After spending a month in Port Douglas (fo Business) I cannot go along with the Chef’s choices and menu which is all double Dutch to a lot of us southerners. Just give me some nice red salmon or lamb chop and a bowl veggies and I am happy instead of trying to fathom out their lingo on the menu. We enjoy this place to eat as is outside and inside venue and staff are all excellent especially the head waiter. Please wear name tags so we can compliment you.
The food was very good. Perfectly prepared and presented. The Mediterranean menu ensured some great flavour combinations as well as covering all the protein groups. I would certainly return to sample the other offerings.
food was ok. drinks perhaps slightly better. First waitress was on the ball and food came out quite quickly and she seemed on point with family requirements, unfortunately before the food came out she was called back to work behind the bar. after that we never had another waitress call on our tabl;e to ask if we needed another drink let alone enquire as to how the dinner was etc. after finishing our entrees, which arrived after the mains we passed around the menu (which had most certainly seen better days) and decided on deserts.... next came a 20 minute wait... there were 5 staff on and only 4 other tables, all situated pool side - we were a family of 4 and situated inside somewhat away from the couples in what would be considered the prime positions. at no point were we asked if we needed another round of drinks, had we been asked we would have indeed indulged, first round was 2 cocktails a beer and an oj for the minor and the cocktails were likely the highlight of the dining experience. Having selected our deserts and waited 20 minutes i announced that if the others wanted they could wait for deserts but i was not inclined after the poor service, all in agreeance we left. It was the trial run before we came back tomorrow for our sons birthday. we will not come back, most likely would catch a lift into town where there is a higher degree of service borne of competition, but having said that sausages on the BBQ would be a preferable option.
