About 1863 Bar Bistro Rooms
Often foraged, largely local, always changing.
Head Chef Phil Corrie leads a talented kitchen team creating carefully-structured, regularly-changing menus that allow you to savour all three courses yet not feel overwhelmed or ‘stuffed’ by the end.
An 1863 dining experience will no doubt generate conversation around the table on the night, but we hope will also give you something to talk about long after you’ve left for the evening.
This was our first visit and it was wonderful. The food was fantastic and inventive and the staff were all friendly and attentive. We were celebrating my partners birthday with a toddler in tow and were made to feel welcome and even the child’s meal was fab! Looking forward to returning on our next visit to the lakes
We had a wonderful evening. The ambience is great and the food amazing.
Fantastic food and service. Very impressed and will return soon.
Faultless. Excellent customer satisfaction. Can't wait to return.
Really enjoyed my birthday meal. The Hapoy Birthday plate was a lovely finishing touch.
Wonderful food and a wonderfully welcoming front of house and serving team. My best culinary experience in Cumbria in twenty years.
Quality food and excellent presentation
The staff and venue were fabulous. The tasting menu was so well thought out and delicious. This was a treat for our honeymoon and it didn't disappoint. We will be back again soon.
Had a very cosy few day stay and nothing was too much trouble! Wouldn’t hesitate to revisit.
Dining on a quieter weekday evening, the service was attentive without being overbearing. The staff that served us throughout the evening were very knowledgable about the dishes, giving a brief overview of each dish at it was served. Our three course meals (Lamb, Chicken and Crumble and Soup, Lamb and Cheesecake) were delicious and complemented with a butternut squash and chestnut amuse bouche, and treacle and stout rye bread rolls, served warm from the kitchen, with creamy jersey butter. Our evening was finished with an extra dessert with "Happy Birthday" piped onto the plate, having booked as a special birthday treat for my girlfriend. Though the portions are smaller than you get elsewhere, if you do a little research you should be expecting this when you walk through the door. Despite this, both my girlfriend and I left feeling full without being overly-stuffed. It is may be on the more expensive side, but for a special treat I cannot recommend 1863 highly enough.
The food was very good, although we would have appreciated the option of a side order of vegetables, as very little was served with the main course.
Really excellent experience thank you everyone!
Superb flavours and attention to detail. Fun decor and welcoming staff and fire.
This as definitely been one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Every room as been decorated to perfection . The food was absolutely amazing . The only reason I did not give service a 5 star was down to the fact that we were asked to leave our table at 10pm after eating our meal so they could set up for breakfast . I felt we were rushed and put a end to our evening earlier than I expected as we would have had a couple more drinks but ended up just going to our room .
Fabulous food with excellent wine pairing. Knowledgeable and attentive staff Thankyou for a great evening
Fantastic food, excellent innovation in putting together the dishes and great service. The chefs made everything thing from scratch to an excellent standard including the homemade butter and treacle and fennel bread all the way through the meal to the olive oil ice cream
Fabulous food, lovely atmosphere, really great service
Wow what a lovely find! A closely guarded secret that we are happy to share. A gastronomic gem in the Lakes. A great welcome from the 1863 team.
Small but perfectly formed - rooms, hospitality and food of the highest order. Cosy, comfortable and relaxing and in a beautiful part of the world. Stayed twice, going again in Spring.
Super food prepared with care and expertise, enjoyed the evening greatly we hope to return one day.
Food was very thoughtfully prepared and served. Excellent quality and tasty meat. Dessert was just as delicious. Would love to come again. All staff were very friendly.
Excellent meal, highly recommen.
It is our second time dining here, we travelled for an hour to treat ourselves and stayed over night locally. We were not disappointed, the welcome was warm and efficient. We were at our table remarkably quickly with our entrees. The meal was beautifully presented and full of flavours. We had the recommended wines most of the time and were pleased with the choice. We sat at a table for two opposite the booths. They do not have the same atmosphere or intimacy enjoyed by the latter. The staff were attentive and pleasant, we did not feel hurried and nor did we feel we waited for our food. The bill was as expected and reflected the quality and service. I have recommended this restaurant to friends and we will go again.
Everything perfect . Thankyou
