About 1863 Bar Bistro Rooms
Often foraged, largely local, always changing.
Head Chef Phil Corrie leads a talented kitchen team creating carefully-structured, regularly-changing menus that allow you to savour all three courses yet not feel overwhelmed or ‘stuffed’ by the end.
An 1863 dining experience will no doubt generate conversation around the table on the night, but we hope will also give you something to talk about long after you’ve left for the evening.
Food was delicious, although we did ask for more bread and didn’t arrive (not overly fussed and didn’t chase it up). Slightly on then expensive side and couldn’t justify the drinks prices. Service could have been a bit quicker as it wasn’t very busy.
Food was fantastic though portions could of been more generous. Staff were friendly. However, Used wine glasses not cleared from table, food served without cutlery. Extra bread given with no side plate. A neighbouring table were refused petite fours unless a drink was ordered, which was a little petty & an opportunity missed to wow a foreign customer. Disappointed with the service.
Excellent food- will most certainly be back for another visit!
Fantastic food, service and ambience as always
Excellent meal from start to finish, staff attentive and food out of this world !
Cooking compares with the best we have had brilliant for its imagination.
Thank you for another lovely evening. We treated our two nephews to dinner and we all enjoyed it very much. Our second visit this year; we will return!
1863 is one of my fav places on earth!!! We have visited it many many times. Pooley Bridge is a gorgeous area of the Lakes - just next to Ullswater. The hotel is tastefully decorated - the atmosphere is warm and friendly with top service. The food is one of the best I have ever tasted - their chef is extremely talented. I cannot recommend this place enough
the flavours, textures, choice and presentation of the food could not be faulted.HOWEVER although I appreciate there is no legallyywatertight definition of the size or weight of a course I respectfully suggest that given the prices charged the meagre amount of meat/fish particularly in your MAINS courses could result in an action for breach of contract being successful.I am reinforced in my opinion by the numerous identical lcomments on Tripadviser. and agree that the portions could only de deemed fair and appropriate in a multi course tasting menu.Sincerely and in good faith.....
The team at 1863 work hard to ensure the visit is an experience to remember. The food is excellent as is the presentation of the food. Service is delivered by a knowledgeable and friendly staff. Overall the visit is an excellent experience.
Another excellent visit to Bistro 1863 the whole experience was perfect from greeting right through to the end of the meal. The food was delicious and in season a good selection of wines to accompany the meal. The staff were friendly and served the food and drinks at just the right pace. We look forward to a 3rd visit
Fantastic food beautifully presented
Lovely meal. The staff were extremely friendly. Would book. Again
Stayed here for one night and what an experience, great hotel with stunning food - highly recommend it.
Absolutely fantastic time here. Service, second to none as was the food, with a great wine menu. Orders taken in a timely manner but never felt rushed, well thought out dishes with plenty of flavour and talent. 5*
Another lovely weekend at 1863. Everything is excellent. Our room & bathroom were comfortable & spotless. The food is exceptional & everything explained thoroughly. Thank you Anne & Mark & all your staff for making us feel welcome & all your hard work. Paul & Jean.
This was our second visit to the 1863. The food was even better than the last time we came. Mark and Anne are great hosts, also we must commend the kitchen as this is the next food in the area by far. The tasting menu offered so many different flavours with a Michelin star quality presentation, inventiveness and flair. The ambience is laid back, not too formal and the staff were attentive without being overbearing. We very much look foreard to coming back soon. Tim
No words....very special food to celebrate our special occasion
Great food and service as always
Food portions are quite small. Even ordering 3 course meal doesn't fill you up. Even my kids left the place hungry after a meal. Similar feedback from our next table when we checked with them. Very disappointing.
Eaten many a time here, and always feels like the first. Service is brilliant and the food is always a surprise, its amazing. Would always recommend to anyone to visit.
Our second visit- just as great as the first time. We will be back. Great service, great food, explained by well informed staff.
Excellent as always. The venison is the best we've ever eaten. Having eaten at around 100 different Michelin starred restaurant the food is on a par with a 2 star or 4 AA rosette restaurant. This is our favourite restaurant to go to and fantastic value as well. Also all the staff are fantastic - can't wait to go back in December!
Lovely friendly staff and wonderful food and wine.
You have a very high level fine dining restaurant given your location. The food was of excellent quality. Your service was excellent too. However the portion size was absurdly small, making value for money lower also. However fine the dining, I don’t expect to leave hungry.
