About 1863 Bar Bistro Rooms
Often foraged, largely local, always changing.
Head Chef Phil Corrie leads a talented kitchen team creating carefully-structured, regularly-changing menus that allow you to savour all three courses yet not feel overwhelmed or ‘stuffed’ by the end.
An 1863 dining experience will no doubt generate conversation around the table on the night, but we hope will also give you something to talk about long after you’ve left for the evening.
I knew that the portions were small and I have experience of fine dining elsewhere, however I was surprised that the courses were quite so limited. Portions 50% larger would have still presented as a refined plate, but would have been more enjoyable as the dishes that I had were delicious and left me wanting for more. For that reason I would only recommend you to friends and family with an expectation of great quality, but limited quantity.Having said all that, I was very pleased to sample your pleasantly tasty rice bread and squash salad taster.
Fabulous meal and great service from the team. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Lovely decor and immaculate toilets!
Fantastic presentation, great flavours in a relaxed welcoming atmosphere. Will def dine again
We dined 2 consecutive nights while staying in the hotel. The dining area is very nice with a lovely cosy lounge area with sofas & log burning stove to have a drink while choosing from the menu. Food was top notch using fresh locally sourced and home made produce. All staff were very helpful, pleasant and friendly. Would definitely recommend.
My wife and I with our two guests thoroughly enjoyed our evening at 1863. Delicious food was served with panache!
It is always a wonderful evening at 1863. Excellent food beautifully presented. The staff are friendly, welcoming and very attentive and and the ambience lovely. We are frequent visitors.
Fantastic experience, great food and service from all staff. Thank you so much!
The dining experience was amazing, the food was beautiful, well presented and imaginative. We dined as a group and all the different courses order came with local knowledge and recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - thank you!
Once again, a really lovely experience. Relaxed atmosphere, excellent quality of ingredients. The Cured Lamb Fillet, and Celeriac Soup were a surprise, different presentation! The Sommelier helped us choose our wine and it was a good match. Good night all round. Thank you. Will be back again.
Delicious food and very friendly staff, well worth a visit
First ate here earlier this year. It’s a long way from where we live but unlike many second visits, this restaurant managed to surpass our previous experience and make us determined to visit again. I only hope it maintains not only its culinary quality and individuality but also it’s unpretentious honesty.
The food tastes wonderful and looks as good as it tastes. Front of house service measures up to the talent in the kitchen.
We had a fabulous meal and will defiantly return when w e revisit the area ,
Fantastic food, great service as always
Exceptional quality food & wine. Friendly, efficient service. We will certainly be back!
Excellent dining experience
The individual courses were interesting and tasty, although just a little pretentious. Good food does not necessarily draw attention to itself. Nevertheless this was the best meal we had in a week dining in the Lakes. Well done!
Somewhere to leave muddy boots and wet waterproofs to dry would have helped as didn’t want to take them up to such beautiful rooms.
This was our fourth visit to 1863 and the service and food are just as perfect as our first visit. We will be returning, hopefully with friends so we can share this great experience.
Perfect evening as always. Food and service were wonderful. Our favourite restaurant in Cumbria
Really lovely staff and lots of nice touches. Ice cold water in the room was nice, the hand soap in the rooms was lush and the bed, pillows and throws were really comfy. Food was beautiful. Would maybe like to see porridge on the breakfast menu as an option but that would be my only suggestion. We had a lovely stay, thanks
First class (please refer to review on hotel which also covered the restaurant).
As usual, always a pleasure, what Head Chef Phil produces with the food is fabulous, staff attentive, a bistro we will always look forward to visiting. Thankyou
Room was great, service first rate and food outstanding. Would thoroughly recommend.
