About 1863 Bar Bistro Rooms
Often foraged, largely local, always changing.
Head Chef Phil Corrie leads a talented kitchen team creating carefully-structured, regularly-changing menus that allow you to savour all three courses yet not feel overwhelmed or ‘stuffed’ by the end.
An 1863 dining experience will no doubt generate conversation around the table on the night, but we hope will also give you something to talk about long after you’ve left for the evening.
Second time dining in the space of two nights, that tells the whole story! Some of the best food we've ever eaten, easily Michelin star quality but at reasonable prices for the average person to afford. Great atmosphere and extremely attentive service throughout. 10 out of 10.
It was a lovely surprise to discover 1863 last September, but it was even better to return to stay for a couple of nights and enjoy the fantastic food, gins and wines as well as the brilliant breakfast. The food is perfectly prepared presented and served by very friendly and well informed staff. Every course is an interesting delight to the senses of taste sight and smell. Overall a very memorable and rewarding experience.
Everything was perfect food delicious and excellently presented
My wife and I had the tasting menu. The food, wine, service and general ambiance was terrific, one of the best meals we've had...certainly beats the stuffy (and often decorated) London fine dinning restaurants. We'll be back. Superb! Ste
Beautiful food and ambience - a great experience!
Loved the feel of the restaurant and the decor was beautiful but for us the tables were to close together, I felt we were on a table for 6 with strangers rather than a table for 2 and also it was far too warm and unfortunately no window to open. Overall though had an amazing meal and the staff were very friendly, definitely come again when we next visit Pooley Bridge
Staff are perfect, atmosphere is devine, food and drinks are well deserving of the 2 rosettes, worth every penny! Everything is matched so well, the staff are a perfect combination of professional yet personal, they make you feel like your dining in an exclusive spot but make you feel so comfortable and welcome. The food is seasonal and a perfect match to the gorgeous location. The atmosphere is absolutely what you would expect of a exclusive little hideaway by the lake. I would of paid more and still thought it wasn't enough. Can't wait to return. Well done Phil!
Amazing food, and great service from friendly staff, will definitely return and recommend to family and friends.
Great night with amazing food.
I can not find fault with any aspect of this meal, and it’s been a long time since I have been able to say that about a meal at a restaurant. Well done to everyone there, fantastic meal and wonderful staff. 10 out of 10.
As always , friendly efficient service . Excellent menu , perfectly cooked
What a culinary delight and a night to savour. Exquisite food coupled with top class service in a relaxing atmosphere. This is the second time my Wife and I have enjoyed the delights of 1863. With one year between visits (as we were on holiday in Pooley Bridge both times), I have to say that this visit was as good as 12 months ago, just what we wished for. Lovely place for a romantic meal.
Second time I have eaten here and it was as good as the first. A wonderful dining experience from service to food.to location.
Loved the tasting menu, we will be back.
Warm, friendly and relaxing atmosphere matched with great service. All of this helps to support the fabulous food. Every course was absolutely delicious, full of flavour and inventiveness. Great wine as well. This is the second time we’ve visited whilst in the area and will be back again soon hopefully.
Seven of us came from Glasgow, London and Durham to Bistro 1863 on 19th January to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday. It was a wonderful dining experience from beginning to end. Attentive, friendly and witty staff; relaxed and warm atmosphere; imaginative and flavoursome dishes served in unusual pottery and with real enthusiasm and the food is still being talked about. This is not “hearty” food but rather well thought through menus with exciting and adventurous ingredients; portions are small but more than sufficient; the presentation was elegant and sophisticated and it was just right for either a special occasion or when you want a change from the usual fare. Thanks to everyone from the chef, to the waiters and to the wine waiter who helped make it such a special evening for all our family; we will definitely be recommending you to others.
Plenty of interesting flavours, never overfaced with too much food.
Exceptional meal enjoyed by all with impeccable service too. In my opinion it’s only a matter of time before the team get a well deserved Michelin star!
We had a great stay Food was amazing! So glad we did the tasting menu We will be back
We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit and will definitely be back. The food was absolutely beautiful, the atmosphere was just perfect and the staff were lovely. Thank you for a lovely evening, a perfect start to Christmas xx
Amazing place, attention to detail everywhere you look. Food is of a superior quality, great room carefully thought out. We'll be back
A wonderful evening on the most recent of our (many) visits to 1863. The team used the occasion of a troubling power cut to improve our experience. We felt welcome and unflustered and the food was wonderful. Particular thanks to Leah who is, at the same time, both professional and warm. A splendid dining experience. 5 stars.
A thoroughly enjoyable dinner made special by attentive but not overbearing service, brilliant food and a warm cosy atmosphere.
Great evening out with some really tasty, well-presented food on the menu! I visited with my girlfriend and the whole experience felt really relaxed and welcoming, which was as a relief when I spotted caviar on the menu. I was worried that it would feel a bit pretentious, but it was the complete opposite. The front of house team were friendly and offered great service, as well as a detailed explanation of what was on your plate (even when you ask what espuma is (translation: Portuguese foam). But best of all, the food was delicious! From the home baked bread at the start to the melt in the mouth slow cooked beef for mains, I'll definitely recommend a visit!
