About 1863 Restaurant with Rooms
Often foraged, largely local, always changing.
Head Chef Phil Corrie leads a talented kitchen team creating carefully-structured, regularly-changing menus that allow you to savour all three courses yet not feel overwhelmed or ‘stuffed’ by the end.
An 1863 dining experience will no doubt generate conversation around the table on the night, but we hope will also give you something to talk about long after you’ve left for the evening.
Excellent meal once again. Food, service and atmosphere were excellent. Sorry that more people couldn't have enjoyed it due to Covid. See you on the other side!
Fantastic service and outstanding meal! Thank you
We really enjoyed our rare opportunity to eat out in these controlled times. The service, food and atmosphere of the restaurant are superb , beating our expectations.
Wonderful food, easily among the best fine dining in the area. You could sense that each dish was prepared and served with precision and love for l'art de la table. You can pair each dish with a suggestion of wine, or choose a bottle from their wine list. Our Malbec was excellent! Thanks for a lovely evening, if we can we will definitely come back!
Fantastic meal and great service throughout. We couldn't recommend them highly enough.
As always excellent service. Staff extremely professional , polite and helpful with everything safe in these strange times
Excellent all round experience
Both of our meals were cooked perfectly, no seasoning required and even though I asked for a variation of what was described on the dish, this was no problem at all. Service was both attentive and discreet and ambiance was spot on. Will certainly be coming back again. A great find. Thank you all.
Excellent 3 night stay for our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Everything excellent!
Beautiful, really attractively presented and tasty food.
Food was delicious.
Excellent night, food and drink first rate. Rooms not up to the same standard.
Always welcoming Great food and service
The tasting menu was superb and paired with the wines made for a very special evening. Attention to detail was spot on from presentation of each course through to the dinnerware. The waiting staff are very knowledgable about what they are serving in each course. Fabulous! We will be back.
My third stay here and the outstanding food was, once again, a delight. Superb. Can't wait to return.
Opted for the tasting menu, it was all presented perfectly, each course was explained to us by the waiter/waitress. There was only one item I did not like which was the basil ice cream which hubby liked it. Portion size was good, not leaving you feeling hungry or too full.
It was a disappointing lunch for us this weekend. We admired the restaurant and it’s decor but unfortunately we found the service and food left a lot to be desired. It’s important to note that children whilst permitted are not accommodated for on their menus. With this in mind I do feel opportunity was missed to allow for a more inclusive lunch. Our request for another small piece of fruit toast to enable me to share my starter with my 4 year old son was refused with the reasoning “its only meant to accompany the pate”. (You’d be right to expect portions are very small.) My partner found the pork croquette main to be delicious but unfortunately the thickest part of my chicken breast was not cooked through which meant 1/3 of the dish was inedible and returned to the kitchen. The waitress simply muffled “sorry about that” as she took the plates away. We declined dessert, settled our £70 bill arrived and we left feeling deeply unsatisfied.
Simply stunning food! As someone who has often visited Pooley Bridge since a 1970s childhood, and has been used to getting standard pub fayre, it was a revelation to be able to sample cuisine of absolutely the highest quality. I can't recommend the food highly enough. The service was also excellent from all. The tableware, glass and crockery were also exemplary. My only complaints are the general 'formulaic' standard of decor, which feels like it has been sourced from a 'warehouse of quirky items for your restaurant'. It is pleasant enough but does not match the ingenuity and imagination of the food on offer. I was also not overly enamoured with the soporific Spotify playlist - which actually brought late 20th century Berni Inns to mind! More up to date please and to match the exciting food! Having also recently visited The Ivy in Harrogate, I would say that your food is easily on a par and some dishes of an even higher standard, but that the atmosphere and standard of decor in The Ivy was almost perfect. Keep producing the same quality of dishes and I wish you a long successful reign, just work on the decor and atmosphere.
The meal was generally excellent however I made the mistake of trying the cod, which smelt of ammonia. Having been ill for 2 days now, I realise that cod smelling like that isn’t a good thing. Real shame as the rest of the meal was of a high standard
Brilliant meal, perfect three course serving sizings. Excellent and knowledgeable staff. Will be back for sure. Thank you!
Enjoyed a superb meal from the homemade sourdough bread right the way through to the cheese course - couldn’t fault it in any way & have to say that the two of us that had your ginger sponge as dessert were in raptures about the whole dish, one of the best we’ve ever had & only wish we had your recipe. Service was friendly & attentive & you made what had been a enjoyable but horrible wet day into a more enjoyable, warm, comforting & cosy evening. Thank you to you all.
On a difficult evening following the shutdown announcement the staff were professional and the service excellent and friendly.
It was my birthday and when my wife mentioned it during dinner Anne supplied a little extra sweet treat. As always the food was excellent, deserves a Michelin star
Five stars all the way. Excellent stay, excellent food and excellent service. Great breakfast. This place is better than some of the M Starred places we've been to. Keep it up. we will be back.
