About 1789 Bar And Restaurant
Experience 1789 within the heart of Sofitel Queenstown. Open for dinner, the menu is brimming with local ingredients and executed with traditional culinary technique. Dishes are designed to share and you will adore the hearty winter fare.
Lasagna was overcooked (it felt it was reheated for quite some time in a microwave because was pretty dry too)and the salmon we got was on the oily side, after that we left. We where expecting a lot more of the food specially because the place looks great and the service was amazing but not the food, sorry but wouldn't recomend the place for eating unless you are going just to have drinks.
We can't speak highly enough about the welcoming reception and quality of the table service that we have received for each of the past three nights. The food exceeded our expectations and was delivered hot and with great big smiles from the staff. Keep it up and we will be back at the restaurant and Sofitel. Pete and Sharon
Wonderful atmosphere and lovely food.
I can only say nice things about the decor and the service. I was appalled to be served McCain’s fries, reheated frozen burger patties and packaged coleslaw for my meal. The table next to us were also audibly outraged by the poor quality. And our meal still cost $150! I will never return here and I suggest you never visit!
Food was disappointing. For a 5 star hotel. Service with indian waiter was amazing. Sorry dont know his name. Very professional. Ambience nice. My cocktail and chardonnay great
We had a superb evening. The ambiance and service were top class, food was very tasty, plentiful and well presented for four people sharing. We will definitely be back.
The meal was amazing. A special thanks to the "German" chef! Beautiful atmosphere. Felt like dining at the Moulin Rouge in Paris without the show.
Really good service
Great service, delicious tapas style food, nice decor, hidden gem that I probably wouldn't have gone to if it weren't on 1st table.
It was the most beautiful meal on our ruby wedding anniversary ie 40 years! A lovely dining experience with most comfortable chairs and gorgeous atmosphere!
Atmosphere was nice but the quantity of the food was small.
The lamb and steak were cooked perfectly, starters pretty average. Service was friendly, but a little slow. surroundings were beautiful but the atmosphere lacked a little, maybe the lights were too bright for the jazz lounge feel. Overall enjoyed the evening though. Thanks
It was amazing dinner!!! Thank you very much
The food was amazing, service was perfect! Overall everything was great and I would definitely reccommend this to people. I loved the atmosphere aswel, it was so relaxing and private. We were there for awhile (probably longer then we should have been there for) but never got told to hurry up, nothing felt rushed so thank you for your great service!
We are very early on in the evening so there were not too many people in. There wasn't anything on the starter list that either of us wanted, but the mains and dessert were both fantastic and our waiter was very diligent to us and our needs
Exceptional service from our waiter Tarun, and the food was fantastic. Highly recommend
staff were great .. food was excellent. It's the third time I've been there and I cant fault it.
Food was delicious, but the Seafood Chowder was outstanding
Delightful sit down environment for an occasion a bit fancier than the norm. Great service and a delicious menu
We had a lovely Valentines meal with you. The starters and mains excellent followed by a dessert that was fairly ordinary but perhaps that was because we had eaten too much! Your Canadian waitress was very good and particularly attentive, she knew her food and wines giving good advice on various fronts. She gave good service recovery with a replacement glass of wine when the last of our bottle produced an unattractive sediment in my glass. I am an ex restaurant owner myself and notice the little things. Overall a job well done.
Staff so good, good food, good place! I very recommend!
Great service the snails could have had more garlic, and alot of the menu is quite heavy winter time food but then it is French cuisine and it was yummy
We were welcomed by our friendly waitress - who appeared to be genuinely French. Lovely service. As usual the French Onion soup was delicious. Scallops a good size and perfectly seared. We ordered Chateau Briand to share medium rare - again perfectly cooked. Chips were not 'hand-cut' - just thick fries - but were nice. Mushrooms and peppercorn sauce delicious. The Ratatouille was like very strong tomato pasta sauce with small seriously overcooked vegetables in it. As a side dish, not something I wanted to eat and it didn't matter, but would be annoyed if I ordered that specifically. Good traditional Creme Brulee to finish.
Food was amazing! Best food I've had in queenstown. Staff were so friendly and helpful.
