About 1766 Bar & Kitchen
Set in the stunning front of house redevelopment of the historic Bristol Old Vic Theatre, 1766 Bar & Kitchen is a warm and welcoming all day dining destination in the heart of the city serving everything from morning coffee right through to evening pre-show dining.
Expect delicious breakfast options, served six days a week, including dishes such as waffles fresh of the press with smoked streaky bacon & maple syrup or the tasty vegetarian option of fried halloumi, smashed avocado and roasted vine tomatoes on chargrilled turmeric & chilli bread.
At lunchtime, you can choose from our daily changing salad bar or our Set Menu priced at £9.95 for one course, £13.95 for two courses or £17.95 for three.
In the evening, our Theatre Menu offers a more extensive three-course Prix Fixe, including dishes such as Homewood Cheese ewes curd, pickled beetroot, almond crumble & orange to start and 28-day dry-aged Sirloin of Hereford beef, beurre 1766, fries & baby gem to follow.
We take Sunday Lunch very seriously, with a choice of three roast meats accompanied by duck fat, rosemary & garlic roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, seasonal veg and delectable gravy. A gluttonous dessert menu will finish it all off nicely and we will always have a vegan roast available.
Friendly and helpful staff and delicious food with options for vegans. Altogether a lovely dining experience.
Had Sunday roast dinner at 3.30 when Sunday lunches stop at 4 - yet it was delicious, beef cooked perfectly. Yorkshire pudding and vegetables yum. Service was also excellent and I love the atmosphere in the new Old Vic! We’ll be back.
My son visited with girlfriend after watching a performance around Christmas and didn’t stop telling my wife and I how good it was Really pleased definitely will by visiting again! Excellent
Great Sunday lunch, will be back soon
My student daughter and I had enjoyed a mid-week lunch a few weeks ago and had promised ourselves to return for a Sunday lunch treat. I booked a table via the website which was super-easy to use. On arrival we were warmly greeted and shown to our table. (incidentally the dining space is stunning) and our waitress soon greeted us with menus. She ( Olivia I think) was helpful, efficient and informative and had a natural sunny graciousness about her. She really made us feel special without making a fuss. A rare skill! My daughter and I shared a platter of charcuterie, cheese, olives, remoulade, and the most delicious roasted red peppers with a herb dressing. We would have liked a little more of the ‘music bread’ - a light, thin flatbread which perfectly accompanied the platter. We had the traditional roast beef ( a tiny bit tough) and the belly pork ( the best I’ve had) for our main course. Extra gravy was brought immediately on request - needed for the enormous, light, fluffy Yorkshire pudding! The vegetables were cooked to perfection - particularly the sprouts. The roast potatoes were perfectly crispy on the outside and light and fluffy in the middle. There was no way we were going to be able to find tummy space for one of the puddings from the menu, but thankfully I’ve been invited back for supper in a few days so I can try one then! My daughter will have to wait for our next visit - which hopefully will be very soon. Thank you for a lovely lunch.
Excellent Experience. Delicious Food. Attentive and efficient staff. Definitely recommend.
We had the lunch menu - good choice of dishes.(including many GF options) The food and service were excellent , and great value for money. Would certainly recommend the 1766 Bar and Kitchen
Good food. Liked that we were asked before we ordered whether we were seeing a show that night.
would have appreciated bit of service once meal was delivered, would have asked for more gravy for sunday roast and more Horseradish, overall food was very good but could have been served hotter,
Lovely serving staff
Our visit to A Christmas Carol was made even better by the food and service @ 1766. The 'Son et Lumiere' style informing of the doors being opened is inspired.
Great food - amazingly quick service
I was disappointed to have paid 15.95 each in advance for both myself and my daughter for a two course meal and only 13.95 each was deducted from the bill. Gratuaties of nearly 4.00 was also added to the bill before we had decided if we enjoyed it. That is nearly 8.00 paid for nothing. The service and food was good but I cannot recommend my dining experience to our clubs in Weston.
A great experience all round. Excellent food, and our server was brilliant - with an evening show to catch, we were under a bit of time pressure, but she managed the whole thing perfectly. Oh and the vibe in the new front of house area is perfect!
My husbands pork came without the cracklng and he only realised when someone next to us received their pork!
Excellent food. Service got off to a bad start; after asking for a large bottle of sparkling water I was broght the drinks menu and no bottle; after requesting a medium to well done steak I was told that I had requested one medium to rare. However it significantly improved with a now very attentive and charming waitress. The venue needs a complete re-think; it does not work trying to provide three functions in one space.
Great service and a super atmosphere, waitress was so friendly and the risotto was excellent
Delicious food in a beautiful venue.
A group of 8 of us had a very enjoyable evening at the Old Vic, starting with our meal beforehand. The whole pre-show experience was brilliant, from menu choices to excellent & fast service. If there was anything that I could fault it was that I didn't think the french fries needed salt on them, or at least not as much. Well done all concerned.
We all enjoyed the food and it exceeded expectations. We were initially a little bemused by the menu finding it difficult to choose, preferring a more simplistic and traditional menu - however the food was delicious and hot. The service was very good and it was clear that the team worked hard to keep to time (in good time for the performance start at 7:30pm) especially as we were 15 minutes late. Thank you - we will return with more confidence next time!
Food great service super friendly and helpful and efficient
Loved it, it was a very cold night but table wasn’t draughty which I feared in such a big (and busy when shows about to start) space. Though £4 for one scoop of ice-cream was a big steep? Already booked again for Feb 14
The quality of food and service is very good, my only criticism having dined there on a number of occasions is that I would like more change of choice on the menu. The duck and burger seem to have been on the menu for three or four months.
Food palatable and acceptable. Service not very slick and a bit slow, but as I was not in a hurry, it was not a problem or concern. I have made my views on the venue very clear in previous feedback. The use of the same space as a theatre venue, bar and restaurant just does not work.
Enjoyable experience but area gets quite congested before house doors open
