Named after the date the Mitre was built, 1665 is our stunning riverside brasserie. 1665 has a centrepiece central bar, wine room, and beautiful riverside terrace on the Thames. Sample dishes include Roast Lincolnshire Suckling Pork with apple and mustard mash potato and tender stem broccoli, Chicken Milanese with capers and anchovy or fried egg and truffle, Cornish Sole Meuniere with Capers, burnt butter and parsley and Flame Grilled Rib Eye Steak with truffle mayo and celery salted fries.
The lunch menu seems to be more varied and more fish options that the evening one. I preferred it. Keep the terrace open for drinks for as long as you can!
The whole experience was perfect ...
Really lovely evening at The Mitre. Had drinks on the river and then delicious food in 1665. Our waitress Holly was excellent and helped make the experience memorable. There is a great selection of wine and the food was fresh, well presented and tasty. Have already re-booked.
Our waitress Daniella was extremely friendly and accommodating to my gluten free needs. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was of a very good standard The only drawback was when we arrived we were waiting for quite some time behind a group who hadn’t booked and were waiting to try to get a table
Beautiful decor, amazing terrace, a lovely ambience and attentive staff. My husband loved his pork roast. Sadly there wasn’t a veggie option (there was on the menu but not available for some reason), which I’d been looking forward to, but the gnocchi was good.
What a fantastic place the food and staff were amazing
The food could do with some work (cold rice with the fish curry, small portion of this dish, poor meringue with the pavlova. But there were some great dishes like the gnocchi and the bang bang salad and the service was friendly and generous despite a slow start
Good vibe and amazing setting. Staff were very friendly. Very average and somewhat dated menu. Could definitely be more adventurous or improve the choice on the food front. More like a pub than a fine dining brasserie. Our Medium rare steak for 4 came well done. When you’re spending £150 for a chateaubriand steak, it needs to be spot on. It was significantly overcooked but would have taken far too long to get another. A good. Igbo bud at £100 a head it’s expensive for what we had.
Great to see this venue tastefully refurbished to a standard that suits its fantastic location. The food was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. Given the Current social distancing measures in place there was a good atmosphere and enough room to not feel too close to anyone. Would highly recommend and expect to return many more times.
It would be great if there were more fish options as a main. It’s currently quite full-on carnivore or full-on veggie.
Atmosphere was buzzing and decor was very nice. Service started well but tailed off significantly towards the end. Food menu was nice but surprised that there was only one individual meat dish available Versus Three or four fish options. Didn’t get to try dessert because the waiter never came back to take our order! Was also hoping for a slightly more diverse cocktail menu in the bar upstairs
Enjoyed the experience. Our server (Charlotte) was charming and efficient. Lots of staff and good service and welcome. The food was excellent. Thought the desserts didn't quite match the rest of the meal. Carnivores might have been disappointed as the only meat dish on the main menu, apart from specials for 2, was steak. The table was uncomfortably small.
My first visit to the newly opened Riverside Brasserie and it was excellent. The service, food and surroundings were all fantastic. Thank you Abbey for being so attentive and fun. Sunday lunch was both plentiful and delicious. Will definitely be visiting again very soon.
Beautifully renovated interiors and riverside setting . Friendly staff & great Sunday lunch - could have had more vegetarian main course options - there was only one- Gnocchi . Starters were delicious especially my lobster 🦞 & prawn cocktail .
The staff didn't have a clue. Drinks took 20 minutes to arrive, the house white wine had run out. Several of the beers had run out. Further drinks were ordered & forgotten. None of the staff both in the kitchens and front were wearing masks. We were asked to go to the restaurant, and were left at the desk. The girl struggled to find our reservation. However the food was stunning ( the sharing chicken & beef). Some lighter dishes are needed on the Sunday lunch menu. The only food offered was the Sunday roasts. I did ask if there was a fish option when I booked and I was told there was, but nothing on the menu. The service needs a massive boost, far too many staff without a clue. It's a shame as the food was excellent. We had to request a change of table, as they put us in a dark corner, with no lighting, windows or pictures on the wall. In fairness we were moved to a better table when I complained. Hopefully these will be sorted out soon. Will try again in a few weeks time to see if the service has been improved.
We had a wonderful Sunday lunch in 1665. The food was delicious, staff were so friendly and relaxed, it made for a very relaxing atmosphere. Talking of which, there is a wonderfully relaxed but upmarket vibe in the restaurant - it is beautifully decorated with excellent attention to detail. I would definitely recommend it to anyone to go!
Fab food , fab place , great staff , Well done all, we’ll be back soon.
My first time at this restaurant, very impressed will definitely return and would highly recommended.Lovely evening.
Many thanks for a lovely supper, my daughter and I were very well looked after by Anna, would certainly book again next time we are in the area,
Nice refurb and great start in terms of service. It was buzzing. At times a little too noisy
Starter portion sizes are small for the price. More choice on main dishes needed, as fewer than what is advertised on the website. Desserts need a cheese option. However, really enjoyed my evening and will be returning.
The most fabulous lunch, everything was completely delicious. We loved the crab starter and the steak, and the Nutella donuts were sublime! We’ll be back!
We live very locally to the Mitre and have always thought that it is a great site for a good restaurant. Previous visits were very disappointing to the point where we would never even consider going there again. When the revamped hotel and restaurant opened we were excited to give it a try so we booked 1665 and visited on Friday 4th Sept. Firstly let’s list the positives. The staff were great, being both friendly and professional. The new decor was nice without being exceptional. Less good was the fairly loud background music. I love Otis Reading, but I don’t think ‘sitting at the dock of the bay’ is necessarily the best choice of music for an upmarket restaurant. Is music needed at all? The menu was very limited, with only 6 mains two of which were vegetarian, though I understand this will change over time. My partner had a Goan Curry at £17 which was very nice but the quantity was ridiculously small. It barely covered the bottom of the dish. My lobster and prawn Linguine was bland with 4 small pieces of soggy lobster and a similar number of prawns. This was £27! With a no starters, a carafe of wine and deserts the bill was £86 inc service. Overall this was not a good first visit and I could not recommend 1665 at the moment, though it may improve as this was a very early visit after reopening.
First outing to the re-vamped Mitre restaurant. The staff are lovely and very attentive without being obtrusive. The main gripe is really with the food. It's just not great. It's 'meh'. Highlights were the cauliflower popcorn and the Nutella donuts. Gnocchi main was dry and felt as though it had been left for ages and then re-heated. Risotto was better but nothing was really WOW but maybe they need to settle into the groove as it was only day 2 of opening. Buzzy atmosphere and very nice touch giving us a complimentary slide of cake for the birthday girl. Will give it another go once the dust has settled. There is a lot of competition out there so success will come if the kitchen ups the ante.
We had a lovely evening, food was good as was the service.Only criticism, tables are to small we were moved to a table for four but if it had been full then we would have had a smalll table. We will be back as we are local and it’s lovely to have a restaurant and bar with good food and service.Well done everyone,it will only get better!
