About 116 at the Athenaeum
The Athenaeum’s iconic address has housed many creatives over the years, from MP Henry Hope and his prized collection of art, to actors from the golden age of Hollywood. The purpose of the renowned building may have evolved, but creativity remains at its core. The latest expression of this being 116 at The Athenaeum, a modern restaurant headed up by Executive Chef, Ian Howard.
Staying true to the ‘British foundations, international inspiration’ ethos, expect inspiring seasonal menus from dawn to dusk, championing local producers. Think Isle of Mull scallops with chilli and garlic butter, pumpkin tortelloni with hazelnut truffle pesto and iced berries with sake sorbet and white chocolate sauce.
No London restaurant would be complete without a quintessentially British afternoon tea. After all, to drink tea is to forget the noise of the world. So, prepare to indulge in delicious sandwiches, picture-perfect cakes and freshy baked scones, all served up on bespoke Ali Miller crockery.
Hi team, I really enjoyed our lunch, beautiful food - beautifully cooked. The staff were very friendly, which is icing on the cake. I am looking forward to returning sometime soon x
The service was superb!
Happy with the service but disappointed with the lack of options in terms of savoury food for afternoon tea.
Afternoon Tea was fantastic here. Great menu, good selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes. The scones were much larger than expected which was lovely. Perfect hospitality, and in these times great to see a Covid Safe hotel with temperature check and hand sanitiser on entry, one way systems and wonderful service as would be expected here. Lovely treat to go out and experience a little bit of 'normality'.
We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea experience and would recommend it to our friends and family
My friend and I came for a champagne afternoon tea and it was absolutely delicious. However, we both thought the scones were far too big and could easily have been just half the size as we didn't eat any of the cakes (we took them away with us) and were really quite uncomfortably overfull! The teapot spout got "bunged up" by something in the tea but that was dealt with promptly by being given a fresh teapot. Thoroughly recommend the Athenaeum for afternoon tea if you're in the vicinity as you'll be well looked after.
Absolutely delicious food and really friendly staff. Beautiful decor and dinnerware too!
Really great experience!
Great service thank you
Wonderful service throughout our afternoon tea sitting. Staff were pleasant, engaging and topped up teas and drinks without being prompted. The afternoon tea itself was beautifully presented, plentiful and delicious. A brilliant visit.
Food and service was amazing, due to COVID, we were mainly on our own, so atmosphere just can’t happen.
Had set course meal, enjoyed starter and mains, but dessert options were limited
Excellent service from our waitress, may be it was not busy but, appreciated so, thank you & keep it up.
The restaurant was beautiful, and the food was lovely. The only thing I could really fault was the waiter wasn’t really paying attention to top our Prosecco up. He was really lovely and clearly busy, but on a bottomless deal I expected them to be on top of it. Everything else, first class!
Very nice selection and the scones were very big and very tasty. The champagne was good too.
Value for money staff we're very professional and helpful the food was top notch can't wait to rebook another afternoon tea, the staff couldn't do enough for me and my party.
Excellent service from Vivienne.
We had a fantastic time indulging in the Afternoon Tea, David was our host for the day and he was absolutely fantastic, definitely contributing to our positive day.
We were looked after by a lovely man. Asked Alan. He greeted us the moment we arrived and looked after us so well during the whole experience. He was outstanding. The food was amazing and so fresh. We had a brilliant time and we will be returning.
