Vegetarian restaurants in London

Did you know that there are over three million people who class themselves as veggie in the UK? And day by day there are increasing numbers of people who are trying to cut down their meat consumption. (Save the planet, yo!) So whether you’re a full time plant eater, or you’re just trying out Meat Free Mondays, we’ve put together a list of our favourite vegetarian restaurants in London from Camden to Richmond.

Aline Lebanese Kitchen

Not purely a vegetarian restaurant, these guys have a huge selection of veggie and vegan dishes nonetheless. (Probably more veggie than meat dishes tbh.) Their hot mezzes include classic Lebanese dishes like pumpkin kibbeh and spicy cheese rolls, while their cold mezze holds their labneh (strained yoghurt) with garlic, which is probably one of our favourite dishes. It’s also a great place to go if you’re with gluten free people and vegans as they have plenty of options for all dietary requirements.

Rather than try to make veggie dishes out of meat recipes, the team at Oliviera are focused on bringing the absolute best out of what  nature has to offer. Their head chef Emerson Amelio is passionate about a healthy diet and tries to bring that to his dishes. From a breakfast menu featuring vegan sausages and pancakes with mascarpone, to their main menu with grilled breadfruit skewers with Brazilian peanut sauce, there’s plenty of things to taste that you won’t have had before. If you’re looking for a vegetarian restaurant in London, you’ll be delighted in you end up here.

The Gate St John’s Wood

The Hammersmith branch of this four-strong group of restaurants has been open for over 20 years, so you can be confident that these guys know veggie food. One of the first fine dining vegetarian restaurants in London, their menus have been refined over the years. They serve a full a la carte menu, breakfast, brunch, and even a Sunday roast which is the feather in their cap. Try a root vegetable, chestnut, and sage wellington, or roasted onion and tarragon stuffed mushroom, all of which will impress even the most sceptical carnivore. And don’t forget to treat yourself to a wine, they’re all vegan!

Situated in Camden? Check. Lotsa veggie options? Check. Serves Grind coffee? Check. Could this place be any trendier!? While not a strictly vegetarian restaurant, they probably have as many meat-free dishes as they do meaty dishes. Choose from shareables and small plates like devilled eggs and sriracha and padron peppers with smoked sea salt, or go for a halloumi or vegan burger, or a tasty salad. Oh, and get a dessert. Their vegan sticky toffee pudding is one of the best vegan desserts ever.
