Pre-Theatre in Dublin

Going to a show? A raucous comedy? A civilised opera? No matter what you’re doing, you’ve got to eat. And eating cheaply is the best kind of eating. That’s why we’ve put together a list of pre-theatre in Dublin, rounding up our favourites to save you the search.

Chapter One

Michelin-starred pre-theatre in Dublin? Sign us up! Chapter One is one of Dublin’s best restaurants and thankfully for us, they offer a pre-theatre menu mid-week. It’s only offered for bookings between 5pm and 5.30pm but the early dinner is definitely worth it for the incredible food on offer. Expect dishes like terrine of wild game, braised short rib, and warm chocolate mousse with flavours of Guinness all for a cool €44.00.

Glovers Alley

If you happen to be near St Stephen’s Green of an evening, we have just the place for you. Glovers Alley is a sophisticated, expansive restaurant that’s a great place to head for pre-theatre in Dublin. Situated in the Fitzwilliam Hotel, the decor is sleek and glamorous, making you feel like you’re in a Hollywood movie of yesteryear. For just €35 you can tuck into two delicious courses before getting  your show on the road!

The Brasserie at the Marker

Three courses for under 40 euro is a brilliant deal at any venue. And getting it at The Brasserie at the Marker is even better. This classy hotel restaurant offers up luxury food in luxury surroundings and their pre-theatre menu is available until 7pm, meaning it’s great if your show is a bit later. With a clear focus on Irish food, executive head chef Gareth Mullins is a bit of a local celebrity and his food will definitely have you fired up for a great evening out.

Dax Restaurant

Awarded the Best French Restaurant in Dublin award by Georgina Sullivan’s Ireland Guide, you can be sure of a great meal when you head to Dax. Classically French, you can expect food expertly prepared and served on white table cloths by attentive waiters. The cuisine is a mix between Irish and French, showing off chef/owner Olivier Meissonave’s incredible cooking, using Irish ingredients with French techniques. Their pre-theatre menu is just €32.00 for two courses and it’s pretty popular too so make sure you book early.

East Restaurant

Another hotel restaurant that bucks the trend of being a bit mediocre, East Restaurant is well-known for serving up tasty Asian food in a relaxed environment. With food cooked in the style of Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Japan, there’s something here for every taste, making it a great place to go when you’re looking for pre-theatre in Dublin. Two courses from their Sundown Menu are just €25 and they’re served right up ‘til 7pm. Situated right on the water, the Spencer Hotel that the restaurant is attached to is a great place to stay if you’re making a night of it.
