Mother’s Day in Manchester

Charlie - Gin Fuelled Bluestocking | Date posted - 30 Jan 2019

For me, Mother’s Day is a bit of a mixed blessing. I lost my own mum nearly ten years ago – so on the one hand it makes me miss her terribly. But on the other hand, it does give me chance to spoil the other mothers in my life, like my sister and sister in law, and even my step-niece. All of whom are incredible at what they do.

So for them, and for you, here’s my pick of Manchester’s restaurants for celebrating all things motherhood.

1847

Whilst 1847 is vegetarian and vegan friendly, even the meat eaters will find something delicious to sample, and if you like taking pictures, it’s also incredibly photogenic. So if mum likes sharing her dinner pics on Facebook or Instagram it’s an absolute winner. They’ve also used the same creativity in their drinks menu and the boozy cocktails are just as delicious as the virgin ones, so if that dry January carried on into February and beyond, you’ll find something delightful to tickle your tastebuds.

Cloud 23

Afternoon Tea, British, Brunch, Cocktails, Contemporary

What better way to indulge the mum in your life than with afternoon tea with a view of the entire city? Sure, Manchester’s weather might not always be kind, but come rain or shine, you get a great view from the 23rd floor of Beetham Tower. Treat mum (and yourself) to afternoon tea, or dinner with their small plates menu, or even a cocktail masterclass.

Dimitris

Are you even Manc if you haven’t been to Dimitris with your family at some point? As they’ve been around for the last 25 years, I’m pretty sure it’s a rite of passage for most of us. Dimitris are very child friendly, their mezze plates means there’s something for even the fussiest of eaters, and you are guaranteed a warm welcome from the staff. Whether the fussy eater is your mum, you, or your kids, it doesn’t matter, there’s a little something for everyone.

The Creameries

A favourite of mine, and were I a mum, I’d be thrilled to end up here for dinner. I adore its relaxed feel, with brilliantly sourced, and deliciously prepared food. They’re also happy for mini-mes to go too, so you can treat everyone at the same time, or save it for the grownups. And you can earn brownie points by pointing out it’s had a stunning review from Marina O’Loughlin!

Tast, Cuina Catalana

Spanish, Michelin Star, Tapas, Mediterranean, Cocktails

It’s Mother’s Day, so push the boat out. This is the kind of food that will have you sighing with pleasure, and your mum deserves the best. And don’t worry if you’re not a foodie, or look at the menu and don’t know where to start. The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed, the staff are more than happy to offer recommendations for both food and drinks.
