It’s a truth universally acknowledged that a tourist in Edinburgh must be in want of a good view. Even if you’re a city local, you never really tire of the stunning vistas that this city has to offer. And what better way to enjoy them all, than over a great dinner? We’ve put together a list of the best Edinburgh restaurants with a view that we can find. Enjoy.
We’re going to start with our wildcard. No standard castle views here, instead gaze out at Edinburgh’s other famous attraction, Arthur’s Seat. This restaurant has been gaining the praise of food critics far and wide, serving up made-from-scratch dishes that change on a daily basis. With a focus on local ingredients and seasonality, the food is so good you might not even notice the view.
Find us Edinburgh restaurants with a view better than Chaophraya’s and we’ll be seriously surprised. Set high up on Castle Street, the main dining room overlooks Edinburgh Castle and much of the city, making it a great place to have lunch. Oh and the food’s not bad either. In fact it’s delicious with an opulent Thai menu, featuring your favourite Eastern dishes, all washed down with their impressive cocktails.
The Scottish Cafe
Sitting right on the gardens entrance of the Scottish National Gallery on the Mound, this gorgeous restaurant has equally gorgeous views. Sit and gaze over the iconic Princes Street Gardens as you enjoy dishes like pan-fried Burnside Farm pigeon, Cullen Skink, and lemon posset. Best of all they have a decent selection of whiskies so you can really relax at the end of your meal.
Quite literally on the terrace leading up to the Castle, you don’t get many Edinburgh restaurants with a view better than this. To be honest though, once you taste the food though, we’re not sure you’ll even care about the view. Because this Michelin-starred restaurant serves up some serrrrriously tasty food. We’d recommend going for the surprise tasting menu. We can’t point out specific dishes though, cos they change all the time. You’ll just need to trust the chefs on this.
One of our favourite restaurants in Edinburgh, Ondine is a seafood restaurant that fills your belly and your friends’ Insta feeds with stunning dishes. It doesn’t have a view of the castle or Arthur’s Seat, but it does have a beautiful view down Victoria Street’s colourful rows. Try out their famous oysters from Loch Fyne, Dungarvan, or Lindisfarne, or try a roasted shellfish platter with scallops, lobster, langoustines, and much more.
