Birthday restaurants in Glasgow

We all know that birthdays in Glasgow can get pretty messy. Whether it’s lightweight Dave who’s downed too many shots, or crazy Caroline  crying over her ex who she’s just seen on Sauchiehall Street, there’s always drama. So this year, why not try a low key celebration and gather the gang for some food? To give you inspiration, we’ve put together a list of the best birthday restaurants in Glasgow where you can have fun without it all getting a bit too messy.

Fanny Trollopes

Making Finnieston cool before Finnieston was cool, Fanny Trollopes has been a staple on the dining scene for almost 15 years. Serving up sophisticated food in a laid back spot, it’s a great place for a big group gathering and is up their for one of our favourite birthday restaurants in Glasgow. Expect classic dishes like venison fillet and seabass cooked to perfection, all matched perfectly with their extensive wine list. Watch out if you’re stumbling out late though, apparently the ghost of the restaurant’s namesake still haunts the streets around the restaurant….

Ashoka Ashton Lane

If you’re saying “dinner” but really meaning “dinner and drinks”, there’s really nowhere better to go than Ashton Lane. Situated on this cute cobbled lane, Ashoka is one of the city’s most famous Indian restaurants, serving up revellers and discerning diners every night of the week. In our humble opinion they serve up the best butter chicken in the city, and their spicier dishes are great too. Afterwards, wander along Glasgow’s most famous street of bars and try out the beer kitchens and cocktail bars. It’s a classic Glasgow night out!

So L.A

Fancy yourself as a bit of a fashionista? A guy or gal about town? Then So L.A is the place for you. Styled around, you guessed  it, Los Angelos, this is a bar/eatery/late night club that’s a brilliant place for celebrating a birthday in Glasgow. With low lights, big booths, and tasty food, your guests are all sure to thank you for booking in here. There’s also plenty of options for veggies, vegans, and gluten frees, meaning it’ll suit the whole party. Settle back after your food and grab one of their signature cocktails instead of doing shots in Bunker and your liver will thank you greatly.

Topolabamba

No one knows how to party quite like the Mexicans so where better to head if you’re looking for birthday restaurants in Glasgow than Topolabamba? With an abundance of cocktails and nibbling food, everyone loves a night here! Our favourite option is the queso fundido, a melty cheese dish that’s so popular it caused an uproar when Topo April fooled their customers saying it was being taken off the menu last year. Oh, and don’t forget to wash it all down with their signature frozen margaritas while wearing a complimentary sombrero.

111 by Nico

Slightly less famous than its Instagram-worthy brother Six by Nico, 111 is a friendly, neighbourhood restaurant, that’s perfect for celebrating with loved ones. The first venture of Glasgow’s own celebrity chef Nico Simone, this is the place where he honed his talents, delighting the people of the West End who are now regulars. It’s a fairly small space, meaning it’s super cosy, and the food is beautifully prepared at an open kitchen, smack bang in the centre of the dining  room. Try dishes like yellowfin tuna, sprouting BBQ broccoli, and Jerusalem artichoke and really push the boat out with their great desserts.

West on the Green

One that might elicit a few jokes from your Dad, celebrating your birthday in a brewery is a sure-fire way to have a good time. And the guys at West really know how to throw a party, serving up tasty German food and world beers in a beautiful building. Dishes like schnitzel and pretzels grace the menu, along with more sophisticated choices: although it’s classed as a beir halle, you can also have the full restaurant experience too. Best of all, if the weather is good, they have one of the best beer gardens in the city, making it the perfect place to while away a day.
