About The Vestry Restaurant and Bar
An venue offering good quality food and excellent service. Individually styled, casual enough to be comfortable, smart enough to feel special.
Relax and enjoy our great lunchtime menu and coffee, and if you're feeling a little rebellious why not a cheeky glass of wine, the venue opens it's doors at 11am and is a great place to relax and eat with friends, colleagues and business associates.
We host Dining & Dance every other Saturday night
Every other Saturday night, when you can enjoy three courses with wine for only £35pp.
Our Pre-theatre menus are the only menus available for the 2 hours before a show across at the Mayflower, with the Express Lunch being available any other weekday between 12-3pm
The food was good but the service was incredibly slow. It took over an hour to get a main course and that was the only course we had! The waiters were very nice but the restaurant was obviously understaffed. I also had a chipped wine glass, not a huge deal but just doesn't look great.
We booked for a pre matinee lunch. Starters came quickly but main meals never came and had to leave before eating which meant 2 of us didn't eat. Appalled that we had to pay at all. Appalled that I had to take my daughter to theatre without lunch. Very embarrassed as I was taking friends out for lunch.
We booked and mentioned Gluten Free needed. When we arrived we were given a set menu. I explained we needed gluten free so they said we could have the chicken salad but this had croutons which were not Gluten free so we were told we could order from the lunch express menu and ordered simple jacket potatoes. We waited over an hour but no food came so we had to leave to go to the show. This left 2 eighty year old ladies having had nothing to eat ruining the whole day for them and us. We were told it was our fault because we had ordered from the lunch menu not the set menu which says a lot about the skills of your chef who could not simply bake a couple of jacket potatoes and also the quality of food you serve. We will never be going again.
It was the worst meal I have had for a very long time. I actually left my grey duck breast and it's burnt potato . So disappointed as have used the restaurant before. Not sure what has changed but I won't be back.
Both steaks purchased, one well done and the other rare were difficult to cut and very hard to chew. Both were cooked exactly as requested but the meat was not enjoyable. Shame.
Chaos in the kitchen meant we waited 40 minutes between starter and main. We did not have time to finish our meal before the theatre. This was our third visit and previously we have had no problems but you now need to allow 2 hours for a meal or risk indigestion.
There were three of us for a pre show meal. Service was slow and we had to leave hurriedly for the start and I paid without demur in view of the queue behind me. We were charged £63 for our two course meal and I have checked that it should have been £17.5x 3= £52.50. Please arrange a refund of £10.50 to D S Child at 311 Andover Road Newbury RG20 0LN by return or ring me for credit card details so that you can correct the error
Excellent meal and service thank you.
