About The Gate Restaurant Seymour Place
Adrian and Michael Daniel have been running London’s most successful vegetarian restaurant since 1989 and opened their third restaurant, The Gate Seymour Place in December 2016. It is the first of The Gate to serve breakfast Monday-Friday and brunch on weekends.
"The food we serve is the food of our childhood, modulated by French and Italian influences. When we opened the Gate, we had had no formal training, we were just a couple of guys who knew what we liked to eat, but we knew that food was sacred and should be celebrated.
At the restaurant, we try to do just that: celebrate the food. This means, amongst other things, that we source our ingredients with care; we intensify flavour by careful cooking and by combining ingredients in unexpected ways. We try to make our dishes as visually pleasing as possible; and we try and do this in a fun and relaxed way.
We started with passion and creativity and we maintain that passion and creativity today."
Imaginative and delicious food, a buzzy atmosphere, lots of things I would love to try so will definitely be going back.
Really good, interesting vegetarian food. Prompt but unfussy staff. Polenta chips and homemade ketchup - absolutely delicious. Would definitely go back
Loved the food & cocktails
Fabulous food. Have been three times now. Will be a regular. I did think that the starters seemed to have reduced in size though?
Amazing tasty food Service good and didn't have to wait long
Service was a bit slow on my last visit despite the early reservation - i.e. restaurant wasn't full yet. Despite this its one my favourite places to eat & I'm not a vegetarian.
Overall our visit was very pleasant. Booked a table for 8 people with hardly any hassle. Was asked to pay a deposit when booking and I was happy to accept as long as the deposit was refunded on to my card, unfortunately the waitress took it off the bill anyway which was a bit annoying as it made splitting the bill with everyone else a bit awkward at the end of the night. The food was incredible, a lot of meat eaters in the group said they didn't miss the meat at all! So many flavours and options for vegetarians, we were all very impressed with the food. Unfortunately the service was a bit slow and not very friendly. I ordered a cocktail and waited 15 minutes for it, to then be told they didn't have all the ingredients (bit disappointing). We had to flag down a waitress as no one approached our table for a good 35 minutes after we had arrived. Overall the experience was a good one, but I felt the service was lacking ( maybe due to how busy the restaurant was). Would definitely visit the Gate again- perhaps on a quieter night.
