About The Gate Restaurant Islington
Adrian and Michael Daniel have been running London’s most successful vegetarian restaurant since 1989 and opened their third restaurant, The Gate Seymour Place in December 2016.
"The food we serve is the food of our childhood, modulated by French and Italian influences. When we opened the Gate, we had had no formal training, we were just a couple of guys who knew what we liked to eat, but we knew that food was sacred and should be celebrated.
At the restaurant, we try to do just that: celebrate the food. This means, amongst other things, that we source our ingredients with care; we intensify flavour by careful cooking and by combining ingredients in unexpected ways. We try to make our dishes as visually pleasing as possible; and we try and do this in a fun and relaxed way.
We started with passion and creativity and we maintain that passion and creativity today."
Great choice of dishes, very inventive. The wine list was great as well.
Not sure on the terrine pate for the starter but the rest of the food was great. Very beautiful and elegant restaurant.
Amazing food and atmosphere. We had to leave abruptly towards the end of the meal for personal reasons but the staff were great and wrapped our left over food in containers for us to take home and enjoy.
Maybe it is because I don't live in London, but found it to be quite expensive.
It was great!
I am not vegetarian and chose the restaurant as my friend is. The menu on the website looked interesting and unlike other vegetarian restaurants offered what looked like tasty food. The service was good, very attentive. Good value for money. Definitely would have a meal here again.
For a recognised vegetarian restaurant we were very disappointed in the quality . I'm afraid you simply haven't adapted to the times; numerous modern restaurants have, let it be said,a more restricted choice on offer but vastly superior cuisine than the one you provide. The restaurant is dated, scruffy and the toilets were shamefully in need of refurbishment. The wine list is short and while not a crime in itself, it is indefensible to run out of a line when the choice so narrow. My mozzarella with tomatoes was hardly a tough culinary ask. I've had better veggie curry from M&S. My wife's pate was far to dry and the main of salad lacked any depth or taste. Service was ok but there was yhe feeling of a restaurant in decline and in need of some inspiration. Sorry but simply not good enough
Great food and excellent service!
