About Ballihoo Restaurant & Clubhouse
The Ballihoo Clubhouse & Restaurant has now swung open its doors ready to feed hungry customers. The restaurant is exclusively for the use of Lower Mill Estate homeowners and holiday makers and offers a comprehensive breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and takeaway menu. Headed up by Head Chef Rod McCormick of McBaile Exclusive diners can enjoy the finest and freshest local produce in a modern eco-friendly environment that delivers a true taste of the Cotswolds.
The restaurant gets very busy so it is definitely worth booking ahead to avoid disappointment. A good selection of meals and a kids menu. Pizzas are expensive for what they are but do taste great. Overall slightly over-priced (the general store even more so) but you are in that kind of environment so it is to be expected. On the plus, the gin selection is great!
We weren't impressed to be honest and definitely won't go again. On arrival there was 6 staff near the till but no one acknowledged us. We were seated at our table for 3(2 adults and a baby) surrounded by 6 groups of 10-15 per table. We had to order at the bar whereas the group tables had table service. None of the beers my husband liked were in stock. Food came out quick enough but was more beefeater than ballihoo, steak was £20 and was tough, served with skinny fries. No one asked how I wanted it cooked but it came out medium, fine by me. Oh forgot to mention every high chair is incorrectly assembled. They're the wooden ones with a black lap strap and normally a black strap between the legs attached to a bar, well none of them are attached to the bar so our 8mo was fine with a tight lap strap but I wouldn't like to put a wriggly 18mo in it. Plates were cleared quick enough and we paid the bill (at the bar!) and left. I've nothing great to say really.
Food on the whole was nice. Service was slow to start, taking orders etc.but food came out quite quickly. Milkshakes were not good quality for the price( just with a milkshake syrup) you would expect some fruit in them for the price. Coffees were also very expensive and not great quality. An OK experience but not the quality for the price.
No great really, we eat there for lunch the next day and the food was horrible, we left 80% of it. 3 cheese & mushroom Pennines a coffee and a tea was £32!
Not sure why this restaurant is not table service with such a few tables? Service was slow on both occasions we visited. Once the food did arrive we had to wait for cutlery to be given to us which when we had already been waiting over 30 minutes for food was slightly annoying. Surely the cutlery should be bought over once you've placed your order? The meals were good but one of the burgers was raw in the middle ( refunded for the extra patty) then the desserts the sticky toffee pudding came without ice cream. Also with so many kids in the restaurant it would make sense to have a kids menu instead of the strange smaller portion options you do. The blonde lady serving was very helpful and apologised for the two errors.
Great food and service.
Hot chocolate a bit cool.
Enjoyed meal with family members convenient and better than expected
